BLT Lobby Scent - In Rooms Too? Allergy Concern

So I'm hoping all of you DVC experts can help me out. We are planning on staying for the first time at BLT, but I came across threads discussing the scent pumped in to the lobby and common areas. Does the smell reach the rooms? Can you smell it inside the rooms?! I have a major sensitivity to scents, perfumes, etc. They trigger my allergies and also severe headaches. Previously, my husband and I had to move to another resort from the GF because the scent there was so strong and carried in to the room itself. Any insight as to whether this is the case at BLT or not would be appreciated. For future reference, any recommendation of a DVC resort that perhaps doesn't make you feel like you're in a candle store would be great. :goodvibes Thanks for the help!

I've stayed there before, but I am uncertain about the scent reaching the rooms. It was awful in the lobby, but didn't bother me in the rooms.

I find it much more potent and unpleasant in the Contemporary lobby as opposed to the Grand Floridian, where we stay all the time. It's never crossed my mind or bothered me there. Where as in the Contemporary lobby I felt like it slapped me in the face, haha!

I'll also say I don't have allergies to it/them, I just found the one in the Contemporary way too strong to the point of being sickening...lol. The good thing is we had to spend very little time there. Really just checking in and out.

Good luck on your trip, I hope it all turns out to be okay. And sorry I couldn't be of more help!

I didn't notice an issue in the room at BLT. But I do deal with some scents much better than others (some fruits are OK but flowers are absolutely not OK) so we actually have a mini scentsy in our owners locker that I plug in if I need to get rid of a flower smell. Your balcony will also open if you need to air out your room.

I actually hopped out of my airplane seat recently, moving from aisle to middle because someone sat down next to me wearing perfume (southwest flight). So I completely get the instant headache and even nausea issues.

I just returned from a 10-day stay at BLT this past week. We were on the 12th floor, north side of the tower. The lobby smell was not present in our room. We happen to love the smell, and even joked how we wished our room smelled more like the lobby. Upon first entry, it had a bit of a musty smell that I believe was due to the AC being shut off. Once we got the temperature right and the AC turned on, the musty smell went away.

Of course the lobby smells don't reach to the rooms.

Beach Club and Contemporary have that same scent. What's up with that? It's probably some kind of scent to keep bugs away.

Actually, I think it's a scent that promotes more gift shop spending... :stir:

I read someone else use the word sickening! That's what makes me nervous. Good to know that you didn't notice it in the room, though. You were very helpful - thank you!

Thank you for your insight. I would have done the same on the plane! Perfume kills me!

I'm sure others love it as well! That's all very good to know - thanks so much.

That wasn't our experience at the GF hence my question, but thanks! Glad to know it's also at BC.

My Dh is very sensitive to smells as well and has never had a problem with the smell reaching the room even when we had the 2nd room from the lobby on the 2nd floor.

I also have problems with scents, especially perfumes. I just don't understand why people think there is a need for them... to me no smell is good and clean! I hope these lobby scents are not strong, my first trip is coming up and I am staying at AKL.

I too wish DVC and Disney would reconsider the scents in the lobbies. I know it is done to manipulate guests into a feel good frame of mind which many hotels do, but for me it just makes me wheeze.

We were just there a couple of weeks ago. The smell was fairly strong in lobby. I am also allergic to flowery scents, but didn't have a problem with it as we spent very little time in the lobby. We would go across the "bridge" from the Contemporary and take the elevator to our 9th floor room.

I don't remember the smell in the room.

Awesome, happy to hear he didn't have a problem - thank you for sharing!

I agree - especially in public areas.

No smell at AKL. Just clean.

This is good to know!

Glad you didn't have an issue. Very helpful information, thanks so much!
