BLT - Fireworks Observation Deck

Has anyone noticed that Disney still has not "figured" out how these "reservations" for the rooftop observation deck will be handled??? Seeing that the resort opens in aprox 6 months it would seem like the plans are finalized and should be announced.... It would take a LOT of pressure off of the people who did not manage to get a MK view room of some kind to know that they can go up top to watch the fireworks.

The deck is not part of the DVC so they can do what ever they want. If they do let members in, it will have limited occupancy.

As I have posted many times before, don't buy BLT expecting to get a MK view.

Why not? I bought BWV expecting to get a Boardwalk View room, and everytime I've wanted that view, I've gotten it booking 11 months in advance. The BW view rooms are about 20% of BWV, and the MK view rooms are about 20% of BLT. I'm expecting the same odds. I booked a MK view room for December.

Why not? I bought BWV expecting to get a Boardwalk View room, and everytime I've wanted that view, I've gotten it booking 11 months in advance. The BW view rooms are about 20% of BWV, and the MK view rooms are about 20% of BLT. I'm expecting the same odds. I booked a MK view room for December.

My point is with only 40 studios and 40 one bedrooms being a MK view at BLT, I would expect that a lot of members may be disappointed.

Buying BLT hoping to get a MK view is different than expecting a MK view. I don't like seeing our fellow members disappointed.

It does seem they could have gotten a lot more MK views if it was turned the other way.

If you look at the outside curvature, it's obvious that the views toward one end are toward the Contemporary while the views at the other end are toward MK. Since the rooms near the Contemporary can't possibly show any of the MK they must be Standard View.

As you move along the 'arc' of the building going from the Contemporary end toward the other end, it seems somewhere there will be a MK view right next door to a Standard View room. My guess is that there will be a few standard view rooms that are actually partially MK view.

Hopefully when some members start staying there we'll get lots of reports of the views, and hopefully some photos also.

I thought that the standard view were rooms facing the MK on the lower floors, where the MK view would be blocked by trees and you could really only see the parking lot and bus station. Almost everything else around the curve would see lake and so would be lake view, right?

True, but we were told right up front when we bought that only 20% of the views would be MK. I would hope everyone knew what they were buying when they bought. I am thrilled at the idea of having that MK view room from time to time. However, I also love the Bay Lake view and bought more for location location location! We were all told 20% MK views when we bought. I would hope everyone who bought set realistic expectations for themselves about getting that view.

1) Location to MK
2) MK View
3) BL view
4) Modern Decor

Love the fact that it's walkable distance to MK. Perfect for my 3 yr old. And when he gets older, i'll get into the walkable distance to epcot- BCV.

Bought SSR resale awhile back and wasn't that familiar with all the other resorts. Thanks for this forum, learning something new everyday.

I think having MK view on the arc will be much better than if they were in the "bowl". Looking out your windows or off your balcony will have no interuptions and appear totally private. If it was the other side with all the rooms facing each other, and the wings curving out toward MK would take away from it IMO. That said, 20% is a little skimpy, guess you need to own there to have a chance.

As for the observation deck-sounds like a wait and see deal on DVC's part.

My guide didn't say anything about the deck not being DVC. She said you have to to a DVC member and you must be staying at BLT. In addition, it will have a limited occupancy and you must make a reservation.

Check what is written in the contract, verbal statements from a guide will not hold up. I didn't buy at BLT but others have reported that the contract specifically states the deck is not part of the timeshare. Which means DVC can do with it as they please, just like they did with "The Attic" at BWV.

Yep... they seem to want to make Bay Lake Tower very desirable.... so it makes sense to keep the observation deck for BLT guests.....otherwise the 4th floor viewing area at CR would get even more crazy-crowded.

Renting it out for private parties, $$$$. That's what they did with "The Attic" at BWV.

Who knows what their intentions are, but they took the time to specifically exclude it from the DVC so they have something up their sleeve.

All the ads and the contract (that I signed) all said DVC/DVD doesn't own the viewing deck. I believe Disney Corp continues to owns it (it works something like Disney leases the land to DVD who then builds the resort, and resells the partial ownerships.) I assume that is so that they can use it as an event location and rent it out for parties, and wedding receptions and things.

So I would guess (and this is just a guess) it will be something like First Come First Serve a few days before to DVC members if it's available. And you thought Cinderella's Royal table was hard to get.

We were told that it had a capacity of 399 members but would probably be capped at around 250 (it would be very crowded if they let 399 people in there)

As for getting an MK view, if we get one we'll be pleased and if not we'll save points and go for a standard view. Either way I'll be happy staying there and just walking over to MK
