Our Food Lion will be converted to a Bloom store and I'm trying to find out more about it. The website looks great but I'm trying to imagine our crappy little FL turning into an upscale grocery. Anyone with experience? How different is it from FL? Any comparisons? Thanks!

Ours converted not to long ago, so I've only been 2-3 times. I personally love it so far. It's still somewhat smaller than the other grocery stores around, but you can get recipes-they print out of these little machines they have scattered throughout. Any seafood or meat you buy is marinated for free- and they have quite a bit to choose from. This is AWESOME for my family as we all have different tastes in that sort of stuff, so you can have each steak, piece of fish, etc. marinated separately! I would have to say that a lot of the long shelf life type stuff hasn't changed *too* much from Food Lion as far as actual food items, it's just cleaner, and nicer looking. But, the produce section and meat and seafood departments are worth going for.

Our Food Lion changed over too. It looks much nicer inside but, all-in-all, it still seems like Food Lion to me.

Thanks for the information.

No, most FL's will stay the same. Some are switching to Bloom, and some are switching to Bottom Dollar which sounds like Aldi's from the press release.

Food Lion now has Bloom as its upscale brand and Bottom Dollar as its low-end brand, but there will still be Food Lions.

We have both Bloom and Bottom Dollar here. I haven't been into either, but a friend's DH works for FL/B/BD and she's been to all and said all are just fine.

I've never been a big Food Lion shopper. I always shop at either Ukrop's or Giant.

I decided to try the local convertd FL a fews days ago and I was impressed. I liked the new Bloom much more than the old FL.

Food Lion is DH's employer. He's the guy in the big rig helping to keep the stores stocked. Most of the Food Lion's being converted to either Bloom or Bottom Dollar are near the major cities such as Washington DC. I personally have never been in either of the 2 conversions, but have been in Food Lion's that have been remodeled and they are very nice. The closest Bloom to me is in Frederick, MD. All three stores are owned by Delheize, and Food Lion distribution centers service them all. I may just have to have DH take me on a :moped: to check it out.

Retail Companies
Food Lion
The first Food Town supermarket opened in Salisbury in December 1957. After being renamed Food Lion in 1983, the company has been a very fast growing company to a 1,159 store chain located in 11 states in the Southeast of the United States. Food Lion's success has always been based on the principle of offering customers quality products at Extra Low Prices in clean, convenient stores.

Bloom
In May 2004, Food Lion unveiled "Bloom", a new brand that focuses on convenience and service through an easy-to-shop store layout, a broad range of fresh products and home meal replacement products, and technology features that expedite the shopping experience.
The Bloom experiment is the result of extensive consumer research, studies of best practices from retailers throughout the world and an intensive cooperation between different operating companies within Delhaize Group. 39 stores were opened at the end of 2006.

Bottom Dollar Food
In the fall of 2004, Food Lion opened three new stores under the deep discount concept Bottom Dollar Food. This new concept is positioned as a full-range discount grocer, carrying approximately 6,500 to 8,500 products, including national and private label products and a full line of meat and packaged deli/bakery products.
