Actually, they used to not let me donate blood because I had open heart surgery as a child(1969). Then they changed the criteria, so I could donate blood.

Just yesterday I went to a blood drive and they wouldn't let me donate because my hematocrit was 34 and they like it to be 38, and I had a 992. temp(which for me is a temp, as I always run low).

I feel fine, and have no idea why either thing is happening.

I'm a regular platelet donor... type AB positive.

(That's the universal platelet type- like O is for whole blood!)

I don't think I can. My blood pressure is constantly low enough that even just getting one or two standard tubes taken for a CBC test leaves me weak and shakey for the next several hours and sometimes all day. Because of that, I've never tried.

I've been donating twice a year since I was 16 and I am 35 now so that would be 19 gallons, right? :scratchin Wow, that's a lot of blood!

At least once a year, and sometimes twice for the last 17 years. I'm an O+, so they like seeing me come in.

I got my gallon pin, but can no longer donate. Even though it's been twenty years since I had breast cancer, they won't take my blood.

I'm just barely old enough, but even if I wasn't petrified of needles (to the point of passing out), I can't anyway. Everyone is talking about it, since there's a drive at my school next week, but even though I'd like to help, I'm one of the few in my grade who can't.

I used to donate blood every three months for about 10 years but a few years ago they said anyone who lived in England for a certain amount of time couldn't donate. I was stationed in England for 3 years (84-87). I hate that I can't donate blood anymore.

I don't weigh enough to be able to donate.

DH donated all the time, until he came up positive for a liver disease. Turns out it was a combination of Tylenol and alcohol that messed up his liver enzymes. But the Red Cross won't let him donate again anyway.

I couldn't donate before because of anemia, and I haven't checked recently to see if I can again.

I used to donate through the Red Cross all the time until they decided people who had been in Europe in the 90's couldn't donate anymore. I lived in Italy from Sept. '94-Dec. '95, so that ruled me out from further donations. :( It's Mad Cow disease related, I'm sure. I wish I still could, but DH does it regularly-so at least one of us is still contributing.
