I know I am a broken record about this...but I was just called by the red cross to do another platelet donation tomorrow. I just donated 9 days ago! She said they are in critical state and really need the blood/platelets. They wrere willing to work with my schedule tomorrow so I could fit it in.

So if any of you were thinking about it or if it about time to donate please call. It isn't that bad. Donating blood takes about an hour, donating platelets about 2 hours.

Thanks!

A close friend of mine needed a platelet transfusion before she gave birth, and I understand it takes a few hours to donate. Good thing there are people out there like you who take the time to do this deed.

I also think while there is so much money being donated to all sorts of charities right now, if you really want to do something to immediately help someone in need, blood donation can help up to 5 people from one single donation and you know that someone who REALLY NEEDS IT gets it.

Thank you for posting this. I just made 2 appointments for later this week for both my Mother and I.

I don't think I am old enough to donate blood, but I would gladly if I could.

There is a blood drive at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana this friday!!
If you're near by call american red cross and confirm you can come give.

I would...If it wasnt so hard..And Im probly to young... I hate needles though..

:) I'm not allowed to donate, so please, someone do it for me!

I wish I could...but seriously, I went to my doctor's office the other day for my annual blood tests. I hate that more than the exams at the doctors and getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist. Why? Because they had to stick me 3 times just to fill one little tiny vial for the tests. First the left arm...which is now bruised. Then the right arm. Thankfully, no arm. Then they finally found a vein in my hand. Hurt like *&$$. When we talked about donating blood, they told me not to bother because they'd toss me out of the blood drive.

I have the worst veins of anyone in the world.

I'm going to donate toady...hopefully they will be able to take it, last time I was borderline anemic. Been taking vitiamns so we will see.

The need is so great. My Dad is a new dialysis patient and has needed transfussions 3 times over the summer. I hope I can do my share today!

<---50+ times giving blood!!

It's sad when it comes to blood drives. After 9/11, I waited 2+ hours to give blood. Why was it so important back then, but not now? Now I can walk in, give blood and be out in 20 minutes. 20 minutes to save a life? Well worth the time!

Donating platelets does take some time, around 2 1/2 to 3 hours usually. But they make you really comfortable, and you can sit and watch a video during the donation. :)

Platelet donors can give once every two weeks, and these donations REALLY help cancer and surgical patients. If your blood type is AB, A or B, they really need your platelets.

If your blood type is O, your whole blood or red cells can help a lot of people.

Can you tell us more about donating platelets? Any information....Thanks!!

Donating platelets takes about 2 hours.
You can do either a one arm or two arm donation.
Basically they put a needle in one arm to drain the blook which goes into a machine. This machine seperates your platelets. It is then returned to your other arm. You are also given some type of anti clogging fluids.

It sounds rather gross but it isn't. you get to watch a movie.
here is a link to explain it more:

Thank you. I'm going to ask about becoming a platelet donor at my appointment on Monday.
