Can you tell me what YOU consider a blondie brownie? I've grown up knowing "blondies" as just chocolate chip cookie mix that is made into "brownies" instead of making cookies out of it.

My mother in law keeps telling me that she wants to find a recipe for these and I keep telling her that I *think* it's just chocolate chip cookie mix into bar form. She's saying no.

So how do you make them?

She actually bought 2 bags of the chocolate chip cookie mix (I think it may be Duncan Hines?) and asked if I could bake them up as "blondies". If you've made them from the bagged cookie mixes, will 2 mixes fit into a 13x9 pan or should I use something like a jelly roll type pan? Thanks!!!

The blonde brownies we eat at our house are butterscotch bars--sort of like the cookie part of a chocolate chip cookie, but chewier. And no chocolate in them at all. No idea on the cookie mix, sorry.

It's practically the same. Technique is where it differs.

I use all brown sugar. I melt the butter. I use salted butter then add 1/2 teaspoon salt. I add 1/2 butterscotch chips, 1/2 chocolate chips. I sprinkle the top with raw or demerara sugar before baking, which makes a fantastic caramel-y flavored crust. Bake in 9 x 13 pan, at 325 for 45 min.

I would consider what you want to make as "bar cookies" and not "Blondies".

Google Blondie Brownies. There are recipes online. I also remember Blondies as butterscotch and no chocolate chips.

To me these are blonde brownies... they are to die for. yum!

White Chocolate Brownie - Moxie's Restaurant Copycat | Makes 1 - 9x9" pan

8 ounces white chocolate, chopped
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup white sugar
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x9" pan. Melt white chocolate and butter in the top of a double boiler, over barely simmering water until smooth, stirring occasionally. Set aside to cool.(2. In a large bowl, beat eggs until foamy. Gradually add the sugar and vanilla, mixing constantly. Drizzle in the melted white chocolate mixture. Combine the flour and salt; fold into the white chocolate mixture. Fold in chocolate chips. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.(3. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool then cut into bars.(4. Serve heated (I microwave mine so it's really hot - hot enough to melt the ice cream). Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream and a generous drizzle of hot fudge or caramel sauce.

Mmm. Applebees had a good blondie!

These: It's my Mommom's recipe.

1 stick of butter
2 cups of brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup of flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans.

Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, blend well. Add dry ingredients, and nuts. Baked in 8x8 buttered pan at 350 for 30-40 minutes.

Blondies are "brownies" without the chocolate. Hence the "blonde" color. They can be made white chocolate or traditionally butterscotch or caramel.

I would not use any type of cookie mix, unless you really enhanced & boosted the moisture content. Cookie mixes are not designed to be as chewy & gooey as brownies.

I would use one if the reviews at allrecipes.com and look for one with 4 stars or more, that has the highest reviewers and actually READ the reviews to see how they tweaked the recipe to make them better.

White chocolate or caramel brownies, am personally not a fan. Funny to see this thread because I am watching Gordon Ramsey ultimate cookery course and he is making some on this episode. What you are talking about I call a bar cookie and I do like those! I've never used a mix for cookies so not sure how they can be adapted. Maybe the brand has a website that gives recipe ideas using their mixes?

Ok great thanks!

I get it now. Maybe she was on to something then. Because when she brought over the cookie mix she also had a bag of chocolate chips and a bag of butterscotch chips. She told me that I could throw a little bit of each into the mixes. :thumbsup2 I'll make them just to see how they come out.
