Blockout dates have been added since we booked our trip...Help! (Gold Annual Pass).

Hey everyone,

I've searched around to see if this has already been covered but I couldn't find much that related specifically.

We booked our trip to Florida back in February and at the time, there were no blockout dates from the 18th to the 22nd of December for gold annual pass holders. Well I was just checking My Disney Experience and I see they've since been added. Is there anything that can be done to solve this seeing as, at the time of booking it was clear. I doubt there is but we booked dates specifically taking into account not having blockout days and it's really messed with our plans. It's doubly frustrating because we upgraded from silver to gold passes in order to avoid this kind of thing.

Like I said, probably nothing that can be done but any advice would be great!

Thank you
Stuart

I would definitely email them - I find that better than calling (paper trail.) you wouldn't happen to have a screen shot of the original clear dates, would you? Either way, if you can show you booked during the period it showed as clear, they may make an exception.

Thank you both so much! Unfortunately, I don't have a screen shot of the dates when we booked but I can show them our booking details and then maybe someone will be able to work out they fell before the new blockouts were added.

Fingers crossed!
:D

I agree with the other posters

I have found if you are polite but persistent with CMs, and escalate to Guest Services if necessary, ultimately Disney will do what is right if a request is justified and reasonable.

Good Luck!

Thank you Mike. I've sent a very polite email and will see where it goes, if not I'll keep trying elsewhere :)

One last thing Stuart

If the Email doesn't get the results you deserve I would definitely recommend calling as well. I had an issue that I was on the phone for over an hour on, and was getting nowhere. When I thought all was lost and was about to hand up the phone, the supervisor told me to hold, put me on hold, and when getting back on the line resolved the issue for me.

Again, I find polite persistence pays off :)

Great advice thanks. In the past Guest Relations have always been really helpful and hopefully it will be the same now. Just came as a bit of a shock!

SWBCMusic - Upgrading will be a last resort but you're right, would probably be cheaper than buying by the day. However, it would leave a very bad taste if we had to do that :( Here's hoping it doesn't come to that

Are you sure? I think those are the standard dates, no changes.

DS has a Gold and I have always had in my head he can't go after "mid December". It's on the back of the WDW Passholder Booklets they give you when you pick up and you can look at it online. Here is last three years ...

Best bet is to call, followed by email. Are you sure the blackout dates weren't there the whole time and you weren't looking at a different tier FP like platinum?

However I doubt much will come from it. A previous poster mentioned a screenshot of the calendar prior with the days showing not being blacked out vs now, but Disney is the ones that changed them apparently so I don't see how a screenshot would matter.

The reason I don't think anything will come from it is because they state that blackout dates are subject to change. So if they lift it for you, they'd have to lift the blackout dates for all gold members.

Hopefully either you get to go during that period with the gold AP's, you can upgrade your AP, or move the dates. So hopefully your trip works out

This is what I was thinking.

I previously had platinum so I could go whenever, no blackout dates.

Then wanted to save some money so went with silver over gold because only difference if I recall was gold could go during the summer and silver can't. I'm not trying to be in that heat at Disney so silver was the easy choice.

But to OP, I'm pretty sure you were looking at Platinum pass instead or got dates mixed up

Goodness, you might be right. But I swear I checked...Thanks for letting me know. The new passes were a bit confusing at the time we bought them so there's a good chance I messed up. Looks like we might be at their mercy after all - But thank you. Really helpful :)

I used to have Platinum as FL was not an option. When it became an option we went with Gold other than DS2 who goes more often. Then I wanted to go NYE so I had to upgrade to Platinum. Have left DS1 at Gold. When they made the changes to types of pass I think it made our homework a little bit harder. I think blockouts begin about the same time as Peak Hotel Rates begin.

I think I know what happened. Normally we go early December and we were planning to do the same this year but I had some commitments that I couldn't miss to we shifted everything back and week so all my previous 'planning' now doesn't count. Argh! I think I've got to man-up to this one being my mistake. Sure we can rearrange things if we need to. *sigh* I won't make that mistake again lol

We've all been there!

I agree with you. I think the 18th was the start date for black outs all along
