My brother is now a Florida resident. He bought a 5-day park hopper online thru Disney, but I just read that there are blockout dates which coincide with the days we want to meet up when I am down there(Aug 8-14, 2013).

What exactly happens if he tries to enter a park with this ticket during a blockout date?

Umm...Disney doesn't sell FL Residents 5-Day tickets?

Sorry, I meant 4 day...

Oh. Okay. Just wanted to make sure someone wasn't "pulling his leg", but yeah, no admission for him. He can upgrade his ticket to full price at the gate.

We went to Disney World with my dad and stepmother who have the Florida seasonal pass with blackout dates. Not during the summer, weekends, holidays. It was Monday, January 2nd. So not summer, not a weekend, and not a holiday. Right? Nope - they were denied because January 2nd was a holiday since January 1st fell on a Sunday. No one thought of that.

The turnstiles just won't let him in. Simple as that. It's all programmed in there.

Has he looked into upgrading to an annual pass. It may be worth it with parking being included and the merchandise discount. And the fact that he will be able to get in while you are there.

This is because the first week of January is usually blocked out on the seasonal pass, not just the actual holiday.

If you buy a blackout date AP it clearly tells you the dates you cannot go. Not sure why this would be a shock to anyone who has one.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #4, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature. The ticket sticky is your friend!

This thread is weird, blackout dates are there plain and clear when you buy the ticket,I don't understand why they would come as a surprise. The Disney seasonal is usually blocked out from around Dec.18-20 to around January 4-5,they're not just blocked out during a holiday.

Not in 2012 because the pass worked just fine the rest of the week.

I think everyone is misunderstanding this. We knew the blockout dates. January 2nd is not normally a holiday. January 1st, yes. January 2nd, no. The only time it is is when January 1st falls on a Sunday, which it did in 2012. No one was thinking of that.

We knew the rules. Just didn't think about what the holiday was. We had retirees, people on vacation and excited little kids. Who concerns themselves with the day being a holiday?

It was no big deal - they just turned around and went back to resort.

In 2012 the Holiday blackout dates lasted until January 2nd,in 2013 until January 4th,in 2014 until January 3rd.Basically right around the same time,it's just a matter of where in the week New Years falls, but the dates are always announced and a quick google search will let you know them if you don't know what they are.The point is that they shouldn't come as a surprise.

The 3 and 4 day resident (aka play) passes have a 180 day (as opposed to 14 day) time span during which upgrades may be done so this generally makes it easier to upgrade it to a regular (aka tourist) pass and then enter on the blackout day.

This is true. But if it is more than 14 days from date of first use, and you want to add days, you have to get the No Expire option.

Oh my god! It's wasn't that big of a deal! I was just pointing out what does happen if someone tried to get through the turnstile on a blackout date. When you are dealing with a 84 year old wheelchair bound man and his 70 year old wife and you ask if they can use their park ticket and they say "not during the summer, holidays or weekends" and it's Monday, January 2nd and you forget it's a federal holiday, you get turned away.

It's not like we didn't know the rules and didn't want to follow them or thought we could sneak in my dad and stepmother. We just forgot the holiday. My goodness.
