If you could chose only one to go to, which would it be and why? I'm planning a trip to WDW for summer of 2017. My DH,two DD's and I will be staying at least two weeks. I'm not sure if we will go to both water parks. I'm watching Youtube videos and it seems like Blizzard Beach has more thrill slides. I could be wrong though.

Actually, I think Typhoon Lagoon has more thrills. Their wave pool is awesome. I was surprised how big and rough the waves are.

Blizzard Beach has Summit Plummet, which is a decent thrill, but that is about it.

The family raft ride at Blizzard Beach is a lot of fun. If your kids are younger, the Ski Patrol area is really well themed as well.

I'd go with TL. Although the water slides themselves are a bit better at Blizzard Beach (IMO), I think the overall experience is better at Typhoon Lagoon. Also, keep in mind that there have been ongoing issues with Summit Plummet and Slush Gusher at BB... so keep an eye on that as well.

I vote for Typhoon Lagoon, hands down. The wave pool is ten million times better, the theming is more convincing, there's more shade, and the trio of water coasters is not to be missed.

The only advantage Blizzard Beach has is that some of its slides are taller, faster, and more "extreme," so if that's important to you, BB is the way to go.

My 10-year-old liked Blizzard Beach better, but I'm not sure why. I know he liked the zip line and the "icebergs" to climb across. Typhoon Lagoon has the shark reef and the water coasters which I thought were better.

BB's family raft ride is better and there are the two tall, scarier rides. Other than that, TL is better, IMHO. We LOVE TL's wave pool.

BB's family raft ride is better.

Totally agree about the family raft ride at BB. The water slides in general are longer, faster and smoother at BB. So I think I'd give the water slides at BB a higher edge than I did in my earlier post. But I still enjoyed TL a little more than BB during our visit. TL also had the Shark Reef, which is really cool.

I had to make the decision between water parks last year before my trip. In the end I ended up choosing TL because of several factors:
-Tube slides vs Body slides - While both parks have at least one each from what I researched TL has more tube slides while BB has more body slides. I have a personal preference to tube slides just because I don't like rides that drop and tube slides are less likely to have long straight drops.
-Wave Pool - I knew that huge waves at TL would be a hit with my brother
-Shark Reef - This was just a cool idea I knew I wanted to do. How often do you get to say you've swam with sharks

BB BB BB BB

Unless I were doing multiple WP days or was planning on just hitting a lounge and relaxing all day, we don't include TL in our schedule. Last time I convinced family to give it another try they said never again. For toddlers, tweens, teens and adults BB has TL beat all around.

TL has the powerful wave pool but after a short time, unless out deep, it gets tiring trying to keep from getting scraped up. TL has the Shark Reef but you have to do first thing before the water gets cloudy, it's short, crowded and honestly if you snorkel in the wild or have been to Discovery Cove ... it's no big deal. TL has nothing on BB as far as slides.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I REALLY appreciate each and everyone. I see I have a lot to think about. And it's a good thing I have time to do that.

Just about any time you get in the ocean at Cocoa, New Smyrna, Melbourne, Daytona. Even if you don't see them they are there, closer than you want to know.

On longer vacations (7+ days) I can see value and attraction to a water park day(s), especially if with young kids who would really enjoy. But for us our WDW/DL trips were more typically 4-5 days where our focus was on park time. If need be due to heat, we simply went back to resort for one hour or so of rest and pool time, then back to park in evening. But we also have several very good waterparks near where we leave that the kids have been too, and frankly it is true that most young kids remember and consider the resort pool as a highlight of their visit (or MK). Really depends what your party and kids enjoy and want to do. Frankly the whole hot day at a waterpark, and all the carrying of change of clothes, wet bathing suits, towels, sunscreen, and the lack of shade/plus crowds, makes for a long day and for me not really a great relaxing experience in the middle of a WDW vacation. Much easier to walk down from the resort room to the pool for a swim, little sun and then back to room change, and off to park.

Blizzard Beach did have better younger kid slides. For the 5-year-old audience who can't/doesn't want to go on bigger slides, there are medium slides -- bigger than the playground slides but still gentle. They have tiny inner tubes for the slides and they've got some twists and turns and they go down a longer hill. It's right next to the zip line area so you can be near a tween in that area while also helping a kindergartner.
