Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon for 6yo?

Which park is better for a 6yo? He's close to 48", but I don't know that he'll measure quite 48", especially if he rides with bare feet. BTW, can a person ride the slides with water shoes?

He's very daring and will ride whatever he's tall enough for unless the water is real deep at the bottom. We went to Water Country in Williamsburg last summer and he rode almost everything.

I'm thinking that he would like the new water coaster at Typhoon Lagoon, but then again, the family raft ride at Blizzard Beach looks fun, too.

So basically, which park has more big slides and other attractions that a child his size (possibly not quite 48") can go on?

A person can ride SOME slides with water shoes. If the slide is a body slide (only you on the slide, no tubes or mats) you can't wear shoes. However they measure height bare-footed so if he is borderline he wont be able to ride those.

To give you an idea about what you can ride in the waterparks: At BB there are 3 attractions with height restrictions of 48 inches (Summit Plummit, Slush Gusher and Downhill Double Dipper) out of 7 main slides in the park. At TL there are 2 attractions with height restrictions of 48 inches (Crush n' Gusher-new water coaster, and Humunga Kowabunga) out of the 7 main slides at the park.

IMO the slides at TL are tamer than BB, but both parks are great. The wave pool and shark reef are awesome at TL and the lazy river is great at both.

If he (or you, for a rest...) is at all interested in the kid's area for part of the day, then BB might be a better choice. They have an area for really young kids and one for the middle-sized kids where they can ride a small zip line and try to balance on 'icebergs' while crossing the water and such. DD8 could have spent all day there! I *think* that TL only has the one kid's area. TL does have the shark swim, though, so it's a matter of what you want.

Darn, I was hoping that Crush n Gusher had a lower height restriction--there isn't an obvious one listed on the WDW site like there is with the other slides, so I guess I was just assuming (you know what they say about assuming... ).

On Crush n Gusher a person is on a raft (double, according to the pic on the WDW site)--does that mean that maybe they would measure him with the water shoes or do they always require the shoes to be off?

He probably would like the kids water area if it's geared to middle sized kids. Sounds like it's something that a kids like me would enjoy, too. Would he be able to reach the zip line at his height?

Last night I had a dream about the shark area. Don't remember what happened in the dream, though. I know they didn't give us snorkel stuff--we just went in and had to stick our faces in the water to see the sharks.

Is there a minimum age or swimming ability to do the shark swim? I remember my DH doing it with our older kids when we were there when my youngest was a toddler (the same one that is now 6yo), but was wondering if it's something that he can now do.

DS would pick TL but mainly because of the Wave pool & Shark reef,though he does like BB & the slides are slightly better BUT it is also the busier of the 2 & there is a lot of walking up steps as all the slides are on part of Mount Gushmore!

Sorry about the height restrictions on Crush n' Gusher, I know it sucks. It is Disney Waterpark policy to measure for everything with shoes off.

The kids area that is geared toward middle sized kids is one of the most popular areas at BB. It is called "Ski Patrol Training Area" by the way. For the zip line you have to be UNDER 60 inches, so your son could definetly do that (I would recomend a life vest if not a good swimmer cause it drops into 9ft of water).

There is no minimum age or swimming ability to do the shark reef, they provide lifejackets if needed. Warning; the water is not heated!!

At 46'', and 7 yrs old, I think DD was too small to do the shark area at Typhoon Lagoon Maybe I'm incorrect?

Edited to note that I've just read that under 10s need to be accompanied by an adult
DD wasn't interested so we never looked into it before

She enjoyed the kids water play area and the waves and lazy river.

She was tall enough for at least one of the slides but wasn't interested

We've also been to BB where she enjoyed the family raft ride but we didn't get to go this last time so couldn't really compare it with TL

TL has the sandy bottom wave pool, right?

Why do I have a feeling that we're going to end up going to both water parks?

I don't know if Jake would be scared to go to the shark area. He might freak out at the thought (the boy who went down the scariest, steepest water slide at Water Country last summer--the one that had me trembling ). But he might surprise me.

Nope River Country which is now closed had the sandy bottom wave pool. Also the yacht and beach club pool has a sandy bottom but not TL.

Who knows what I'm thinking of then. Or maybe I'm just imagining things. I was never at River country and only once at Y&B Club pool (could be that one), but I'm probably just imagining things.
