I am a single mom going in July with DD age 12 and DS age 7. I don't trust DS to get changed in men's room alone. Are there family changing rooms?

We did not use changing rooms while there, but we did use the bathroom there and I believe there are individual shower areas with curtains. I would take him into the womens and let him shower and change in one of those areas. It is private enough and I'm sure other moms will understand your concern with sending him into the mens area alone.

Really!?!? Wow...

I would suggest wearing the swim trunks under some shorts and not going in the dressing rooms.

What do you do when he has to go to the bathroom? :confused3

And I am sure the women are REALLY going to understand a 7 year old boy seeing them naked if you take him in the women's room! At 7, I definitely knew that girls were different and seeing a bunch of naked women? I would have been like the dancing banana man!

I don't have that much of a problem with bathroom. But he will dawdle in a changing room. I think he'll just come in with me and his sister.

Ah, okay, I see. I thought this was going to be another child molester thread. While sexual abuse is a terrible thing, the locker room at Disney is one of the last places I would worry. There are plenty of big, strong Dad around to come to the rescue at Disney World.

Now the mall... maybe a different story.

He's 7 for goodness sake. I wouldn't blink at a 7 year old boy in a womens locker room or bathroom.

Certainly preferential to him going in alone.

I never went into public bathrooms/changing rooms alone at the age of 7.

our local pool has a gender specific cut off at age 5. kind of ridiculous. but my ds will seriously take a 15 minute shower if left alone!

There are individual changing/showering rooms the size of a dressing room in department store! Not a room full of people changing in front of each other. Like the size of a voting booth.

Just returned from Blizzard Beach Monday, the 16th. DO NOT let him go in the changing room alone. The men's changing area is large and if you do a google search you will find that a child has been molested there! As far as the women's changing area, I wouldn't suggest that either. Take him to a regular family or women's bathroom and let him change there. You shouldn't encounter people changing in a regular bathroom. You might not have a problem with him seeing undressed women, but those women (and girls) may not feel the same way about a 7 year old boy watching them. Silly perhaps, but everyone is different and you should consider others' feelings as well.

Not so in the men's changing area. You must walk through two large open changing areas before getting to the showers (which are private). Even with a quick walkthru to the shower area you will encounter many exposed people as most people don't shower there. I can't speak for the women's building, but for all the Dads out there, if you take your daughter into the men's changing building, she WILL see exposed men.

I always took my sons into the women's room when they were that young and their dad wasn't with us. Most women aren't changing out in the open anyway, have your son use the curtained changing room to change out of wet clothes.
It's definitely a struggle as the boys get older with how to handle this situation if there is not a male adult in your party, but go with his safety first at 7 years old!

I think 7 yrs old may make others uncomfortable in the women's changing room. But here is another choice:

Skip the big changing rooms, head out to a small rest room hut. There aren't typically more than a few people using them and they are small. You can stand at the door and stay in verbal contact. Walk him through it: Change your shorts, go pee, get out. Set the expectation it is a race: ONE MINUTE in and out.

Otherwise you hold up a towel around him and he changes by the lounge chair... but that does not solve the potty break problem.

I don't remember any family rooms at the water parks.

I would suggest wearing your bathing suits there. It will help save time. If you decide to change before you leave, just bring him in with you. The changing rooms have curtains. Have fun.:goodvibes

Also, if I may suggest, you may want to pose these types of ?'s on the Disney for Families board in the future. You'll get a lot of experienced answers with a little less "enthusiasm".;)

Your going in July..why not avoid the whole issue and just have him wear his swim trunks there...once done for the day they should dry lickity split and he can wear them out.
