Have you ever noticed that when some Southern people say something negative they will add, "Bless her heart" after it, to soften it? For example, "She has very unfortunate skin, bless her heart!", or "Those are some hideous shoes, bless your heart". It really cracks me up!! :rotfl:

Anyone else notice this?

She's not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, bless her heart. Said on a daily basis about my sis. :teeth:

What an unfortunate smile you have there, Cookie Tosser...Bless your heart!

Although I am not in the South all that often, (except Disney) I have noticed it here in the Northeast.

Something my gram would say to my DS, "Sonny, you failed your math test, bless your heart".....WHATTT

To my DH...."Junior, you totalled your car, bless your heart"....WHATTT

:lmao: :lmao:

I'm guilty of doing this sometimes; esp when talking about kids ;)

But I also use 'bless your heart' when I really do feel badly for someone. It's not always used negatively LOL!

:rotfl2: Awfully kind, your Gram was. I don't think if I failed my math test or totaled my car that my granny woudl have said, "Bless your heart afterward". She'd have a lot of other things to say, but not that! :rotfl2:

Bless Your Heart is actually; according to my mother; a euphamism for you dummy!!!

I do too, but I use it to negate negative statements as well. So I am guilty. :rolleyes1

Bless your heart, you have weight fluctuations doncha? ;)

:rotfl2: Bite me. My hula girl is DANCING.

Oh, no, I know it is used in a good way too. I just noticed it used to negate a negative comment, and that really rocks my socks!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: That's funny!

Yup, that is really, I think, what gram was saying.....:lmao: In the nicest way she knew!!!!!! :lmao:

Making fun of southern people.

That's just lovely.

Umm...if you look at my post, I am from the Northeast and hear it all the time, so I do not think it is just a Southern saying.....it is an ENTIRE USA saying...no worries, Piglet. No worries.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one is mocking Southern people, bless your heart. How do you know we are not all southern here? The OP just gets a kick out of that saying when it is used that way, that's all. :)

Good Evening Dis Boards.....

I have to say I do like that saying, Bless Your Heart! I do not have many of the members of the "Dog Pound" actually using that saying but I am now going to start!!! :thumbsup2

I reside "down south" and take no offense what so ever. It would be like me commenting that people from Boston say "wicked cool". It's just a phrase that is used in that geographic area that stands out as different from somewhere else.

:thumbsup2

I live in the South, but I haven't heard the expression in years.
