I learned something yesterday. Restaraunt food is Blechy! DS gave us great news when he returned from school yesterday. He is getting 4 A's and (He thinks) 2 B's. This is a battle we have been fighting his whole school career. {Smart as a whip, but deems work beneath him, so tends to get A's (when he does his work) or E's (when he refuses). So he's been a C student.} Anyway, it seems he sees the light and is doing the work. We decided to give him a treat and go to his favorite (local) eatery.
We were all excited, as we haven't eaten out in over a month. What a treat!
OMG! The food was LOADED with salt. (DUH! ) We didn't finish our food, and I was sick all night! This A.M. I feel like a grape with the skin about to split!
I'm glad it happened though. My weight loss has been progressing at a snails pace, but I am learning and (I hope) developing life long healthy habits from experiences like these. I could get all depressed and say "waaaa! I did a bad thing." But, I'm thinking of this a positive, because I no longer have the feeling that I'm depriving myself of things I love. These little setbacks have a way of changing my perspective on things.
I know this is kind of a long post, but has anyone else incorporated their "failures" into positive new approaches? What have you learned?

Keep the Faith!

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at the restaurant but now you know that you are not missing out on anything. At least you know not to eat there anymore.

Keep the positive attitude and your loss will come along. I believe that it takes time to lose weight if you want it to stay off permanently. If you lose it too fast than it will come back. :D

Tracy, I so agree with you! This is not something you should consider a setback at all!

First, congratulations to your DS for the great grades!!! I hope this is something he is really motivated to keep up! :)

Eating out is not all it's cracked up to be. I used to love to go out to eat, and we'd go out about twice a week. I could put away some food and then some, not to mention a few margaritas or beers.

Now when I eat out, I end up feeling sick. I don't sleep well and the food doesn't agree with me, and I get bloated. I much prefer to cook my own meals and stick to my plan. I never thought I'd start shunning a nice meal out, but it is starting to look that way now! ;)

This way of living is a blessing! I am losing weight, feeling great about myself, my skin looks better, I have more energy, I don't feel sluggish and full, I am eating more fruits and green veggies, I sleep SOOOOO good and I wake up excited about facing the day! I love to work out and I love the results I am seeing. Eating out just doesn't have the same appeal it did. I guess I am "rewarding" myself with good health rather than a full stomach.

Hope you feel better soon! Just drink loads of water!!!!! :) Thanks for the post. I love long posts!!!! :) heh heh!

you know what? i'm almost there too with the eating out thing. Excellent for your DS, maybe he's figuring out that you do know what you're talking about.

Nah!!

anyhow, my DD just got straight A's for the first time this year (big adjustment in 5th grade at our school system) and is planning on asking her Grammy (alreadyexcitedGrammy) to make good on her offer to treat her to McDs for lunch when she makes the honor roll. The catch you ask?? It's a lunch to be brought to her at school (big treat). And I'm fine with it, but I'm already thinking "McDonalds, BLECH!!!"

I dont' really like their salads, not compared to Wendys. Our McDs doesn't have the veggie burger or anything of the sort. Maybe I'll have to swing through Burger King and get a Veggie Burger I've read about here :) 7 pts?? is it worth it???

On the other hand, Mexican food..........well, that's another story. I think I'm ready to order a la carte and not a full dinner with beans, etc. That's a baby step for me in the right direction!

Ironic how we look at unhealthy food as a "treat"!!

Tracy, my son was a lot like your son. Very intelligent but didn't see the sense in actually doing homework  He used to drive his teachers crazy because he would ace all his tests but never seemed to study. So he was pretty much a straight C student until graduate school. Then his grades were so good he qualified to graduate Suma Cum Laude. He didn't see the importance of signing up for that, though (can you believe that?)

I love your attitude of finding the positive in an otherwise potentially negative experience. Good for you!

Sounds about right! LOL! I love him to death, but it's my job, as his parent, to get him to learn to push himself. Not everything in life comes easy, and one usually needs to learn how to work.

ohMom,
That is exactly what we had and what I did. I really was good. All I had was a Tostaquac, which is a chicken tostada eith quacamole on it. Not bad as far as nutrition goes. 1 meat exchange, 2 fat, blah, blah, blah. But the salt! My lips still feel prunish.

Just drink loads of water!!!!!
TigH,
I have been doing just that! I weighed myself this a.m. to confirm my suspicion about the salt and was ready to recant my other thread! LOL! I had gained 1.5 lbs. It is all gone now thank goodness! Amazing how our bodies work!

If you lose it too fast than it will come back.
Cthia,
I couldn't agree more. At least that has always been the way it works for me. More and then some!

Thanks everybody for the positive reinforcement!

OH! Got my hair cut today. I think I'll go weigh myself. ;) (Got it really cut. Anxiously awaiting DH's arrival home.)

Keep the Faith!
Tracy
