Blast from the past: rec.arts.disney.parks

I use to read RADP until I came upon the DIS. I still have the site bookmarked, I rarely go there now.

As for PaulT, did any of you ever catch on as to who he really was? A certain poster posted as himself, and "forgot" to switch back to his real user name. His post came on as PaulT's user name. He admitted that he posted as PaulT a "couple" of times to egg people on but that was it. I searched "his name" and "PaulT". This guy had a REAL fascination with PaulT. Coincidence? I think not.:rolleyes1

Yes - started there in 1995. :)

I was on the AOL ones, too - back then. Anyone remember those?

And I was on the Prodigy boards. At first, Disney stuff was group with all other Theme Parks on the Theme Parks board. They finally gave us our own board when we complained enough. I started on radp back in 1996. I actually found a trip report of mine from 1998.

I think he was PaulT too, but I seem to remember he had 2 daughters. He didn't say he pulled the rug up, just the corner and hid stuff under there to keep it away from the cleaning people.
I think it was Travematte who did the saran wrap in his camera bag. He lived in Orlando and did Beach Club buffet every week and brought in baggies and would brag that he had shrimp for the next few days.

I'm pretty sure PaulT had 2 daughters, too.

And I think you're right about Travelmatte and his saran wrapped camera bag.

Man Ron Ng was a GREAT villain.

Indeed! pirate:

OMG! Ron Ng and PaulT-LOL. I was MouseEars on RADP but I think my last post was 1999. I was on AOL around 1995 as well. I remember the whole castle breakfast problems on Rita's site too.

I wish I could find the AOL archived boards. I was on there muuuuch more frequently. I met a whole bunch of people, from there. Oodles.

Then - what was it called - I can't even think. It wasn't MouseSavers - but another one like that - had a board on Yahoo. I was on there, too.

And gosh - I feel like we had a Yahoo group (Old AOL'ers) too. But I can't remember.....

I remember so many screen names - where is everyone??

There is one girl on here, Vicki - who I remember from back in the day. I remember when she was pregnant with her (now like 12 y/o!!) daughter!

I remember Vicki from AOL also!! I see her here now and then.

I remember the RADP. I didn't think it was around anymore. Was also a member of the AOL boards way back in what seems to be the beginning of time. Mostly stayed in the WDW DVC board. Lots of nice folks there and I do wonder what happened to them.

Yep RADP is still around. DH and I joined in on many of the meets last December and hope to catch some more this year. You can find pics and the meets here:

Ha! I finally saw this.. :wave2:and you're close-my daughter will be 11 in a couple of weeks!
I wasn't on RADP, but loved those AOL boards!

Great Memories!

I started on RADP back in 1996 - was even at the RADP "Toad-In" - the day the attraction closed and was among the last 50 to ride Toad - along with Deb Wills. We went to several RADP meets (the forerunner of the MouseFest programs).

I was at the Toad-In, too. :lmao:

I read there some before joining here in early 1999. I think I was too scared to join radp. :lmao:

It could get pretty intense on RADP, I remember Duck Fan especially. Once I switched from AOL I lost track of the site. Nancy

Thank you so much for the link to the R.A.D.P. website at http://meets.radp.org . It looks like that I can plan to attend a lot of 2010 December meets now during my December vacation.

And it feels so good to me to see so many familiar names posting in this thread that I haven't seen in such a long time.

R.A.D.P. was one of my first Disney sites to visit and I learned so much from them both about Disney.

I really loved RAPD in the late 90s. My trip report in my signature was written up for RADP. I even went to a few meetings, like the Friday the 13th TOT meet where Barb rode TOT for the first time.

Here are some people from that day. Barb, Kenny, Sam the bartender, Brian Pastor, GenieFL, Michele (TDC Pooh Peon), her husband Andy, Rhona Grumet, , Chris Caines, Aaron and Brian43 (I apologize if I missed anyone).

So do any of you recognize some of these people?

Maybe that is why I never joined RADP. :rotfl: Really though I was confused by the layout. It was very old school looking.

I remember Ahnalira and her sugar-free trip reports. When DD3 was diagnosed with allergies and we went to WDW, I immediately thought of them.

I was Allison (or Iago) on the Reader's Clubhouse site. My very first attempt at online chatting! Wow, that was like 1999 or something. Rita Aero's book was my first Disney book - I still have it on my book shelf.

I posted a few laaaaame trip reports on her board, but the best one was by GrimGrinningGuest. His was the first trip report I read that used humorous storytelling. He went with his friend Michelle and joked about how much she shopped. I wish I could reread it!

Anyone that hung out on AOL, do you remember Noel (FirstNo), Sue (WDW1972), Judy from Maryland who stayed at the Grand and had the first dinner on the yacht at WDW, JE118 , Cruella (Nancy from New Orleans area and a nurse who went out with Gene Simmons), Debbie from TX that was a town council person in the Ft. Worth area, JanInWa? We were all on a private forum together off AOL and haven't heard from them in years except JE.

I remember all of them. RADP was such fun. My first attempt outside of the pregnancy boards posting. That place got rough but still a blast!

I may have been on that private board with you? Remember MPepe (Maria?) JudFud (Judy)? Cruella sounds so familiar, too..... As does JE118.....

Noel was a reservationist at SOD, back then, right? I liked Noel, so much. I was banned with her, JudFud - and 2 other people - following that Mona incident. Remember Mona had "sob storied" a LOT of people into sending her thousands and thousands.

I met JaninWa for a meet, over by Rock & Roller Coaster - I even rode it with her. Then I headed over to Boardwalk, via boat, and met a bunch of AOL'ers. I still have that picture. I should post it.

One girl was a moderator, I can't even think of who else. I'm pretty sure I met Ronda (who is still on these boards), too. I think??

ETA - I was "LIPSTIX" Ha! LOL! It was a makeup thing... looks so naughty, now.

Hey, I was banned too! And I do know what the scuttle was with Jan in WA. I was one of the ones that started the private group. MauOB was there too and Judi (IMBE) Debbie was DJEV. It's coming back to me. I don't remember the name I went by, probably dabmusic. I was stuck in Oklahoma at the time.

Lipstixx (LOL), were you in Indiana at the time? Judfud was Cheryl in Chicago I believe and Ronda, hey Ronda.....are you out there?????? Ronda was from MA and ended up in the hospital at WDW I believe. Yes Noel was a reservationist at SOG after just getting out of the Air Force. She got me the perfect room at SOG years ago. Nancy was a nurse in the New Orleans area (Cruella). I honestly can't remember if I was dabmusic, sasywtch or ???. I was stuck in Oklahoma is all I remember :cool1:

Back in California now!

I lurked a little on RADP, but never posted, wasn't brave enough. I used to be in the AOL groups/chat rooms. I remember a single-parent one where we would get together. I especially remember a lady who lived in Pasadena. We had a few get-togethers at her house. I lost touch with them, but there is one old AOL friend that I continue to maintain an online friendship - we've never met, and he's my oldest internet friend (I think from 1996).

I then found Laughingplace & would visit that site a lot & would go to their meets. Then in '98 started planning for a trip to WDW (first family trip), and bought Rita Aero's book. There was an address to the Reader's Club, and I started visiting there, and got a lot of good advice from some friendly people. Then Ahnalira invited us to visit this site where she was a moderator of the Inspiration Board. That's when I came to the DIS (Dec '98), and have been here ever since.

I recognize a lot of the names you all have been mentioning. Thanks for the trip :)
