I was cleaning out some cabinets and found a receipt from Walt Disney Travel.

5 Nights Contemporary Standard Wing Room
5 Day Passes for 2 adults and 2 kids
1 Minigolf Voucher
1 Planet Hollywood Merchandise Voucher (amount not noted)
1 Planet Hollywood $15 Meal Voucher
1 QS Meal/Night/Person
1 Snack/Night/Person
1 Table Service/Night/Person
1 Sea Raycer Vouncer

So, not only all that, but 12/29/08 - 1/3/09 (so the busiest time of year.

This was all booked in October of 2007.

How much do you think that package cost?

$3515.76

For Comparison:

That price doesn't include the Sea Raycer, Mini Golf, or Planet Hollywood vouchers.

If anyone didn't know, click on the blurred part of the post and the amount is listed.
Wow!

I do have to say that one of my OCD hobbies while watching old TV reruns (Perry Mason, Rockford Files, etc) and movies, is to look up the present value of money compared to whatever time frame the show or movie was made

Mid '60s is about 10 to 11X
Mid '70s is about 5 to 6X
Mid '80s is about 3x

My cheap memory is one spring break in college, would have been March of 1992 or 1993. We were at Daytona but the weather was bad. You can still go to Disney in the rain so my gf at the time (wife now) and I drove over to WDW and went to the Magic Kingdom for the day.

They were running a special of $25 for admission for college students.

That’s insane. The price almost tripled in 15 years. My gosh, imagine what costs will be in another 15 years! I shudder to think. I sometimes find old Disney food or merchandise receipts in old boxes and I’m always shocked at how much cheaper things were then. It’s depressing.

Those were the days!

We did a 2009 trip where they offered free dining Thanksgiving week. We stayed at the Contemporary preferred room for 7 nights and paid $2700 for our family of 4.

And then there were the days of free dining where the TS credit included appetizer/entree/dessert and tip. The last year they offered it, it was $39.99/person/day.

We have great memories of past trips, but have reached the point where we don't believe we'll ever return. The style of touring really turned us off. We were never yearly visitors, generally several years in between because there are so many other places we wanted to see. Disney was the trip where we could simply arrive, drop our bags and wander off to find fun wherever. Crowds got to be too much, offerings declined, we started feeling herded in order to partake in the attractions we were interested in and service declined. Add in the serious price increases and it's a serious no thank you for us.

To be fair, 2007 is considered to be about the beginning of a very significant economic contraction worldwide. I'm sure there were some very attractive discounts for hotels and tickets around that time.

This post reminds me of a sarcastic chart someone created and posted on another web site years ago that I downloaded & saved. They called it "Law of Disney Diminishing Returns." While there is some sad truth to it, it's also a bit humorous. And yes, sometimes looking at photos in the scrap book of old trips (when MK single day park tickets were a stunning $28 per person >:( ) is more fun than actually going there again. Nonetheless we are heading back ourselves again in a couple of months. Its still a nice escape from today's reality even if MK tickets are 5 X more expensive. :-)

We went in March 2009 and paid about $2700ish for 7 nights at CBR for our family of 4 with 8 day hoppers and TS DDP. We also received a $200 gift card from Disney upon check in.

This was the 4/3 deal they were running. I remember walking through a basically empty Epcot WS.

I only looked at your bottom pic at first and was like, that seems comparable to now. Then I realized it was the blur spot I had to click 🤣🤣🤣.

I remember the good ol’ days of getting “agency exclusive deals” around Labor Day at Poly for cheap. Or when the dining plan included an app and tips too.

I did one of those deals once! Did a split stay with 5 nights each at BC and Poly. Paid $2000 for the rooms. I wish I would’ve done it another year and did GF.

The difference between then and now is unbelievable.
Back in the early 2000s we stayed concierge at both The Poly and The Contemporary at a high cost, of which I don’t even want to think what it is today 😳.

Our trip this month we stayed at BLT by renting pointing through Dave’s DVC rentals which cost $495 a night. Still very expensive, but better than going through Disney Travel. We are now highly considering DVC to continue staying at the Seven Seas Lagoon resorts at a more affordable cost, because these resorts are our favorites.

I wish Disney would slow down their increases so more families could afford to go. I also wish that they would have more perks for resort guests. Something like Memory Maker should be less money for resort guests. I don’t see this happening anytime soon, so we’ll just continue to pay the current rate because this is our happy place.
