Yep. I'm talking about The Blanket. Do any of you allow DC to take their blanket to the parks? DS will be 2 1/2 and while we plan on breaking during the day for a nap, I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea to take his blanket to the park. He's much more comfortable with it if he's tired and less likely to melt down. Anybody done this? How do you keep from losing it?

Don't laugh. I had a blanket until....well....let's just say I was old enough to know better.

:rotfl: My dd has a blanket...sigh...nasty thing. LOL, she only brings it to the hotel, not into the parks. My girlfriend and I went on vacation together and her dd brought along a HUGE blanket. It was like full size bed size...think BIG!! It went to everypark with us. She got the double stroller, and put it in there and plunked her 2 year old on top of it. It did save the day when she was having a meltdown. If you do bring it in the park, I would set some rules. Like it doesn't come out of the stroller. LOL. After my friends little one figured this out, she was okay.

We also brought *the* blanket for DS. He uses it mostly for napping as it was so hot last fall but happily cuddled up in it and took great naps with it in the parks. We do have a few of them though so if it had disappeared it wouldn't have been the end of the world.

We have always taken "Blankie" on vacation with us and to the parks. In the past 4 1/2 years of my sons life he (Blankie) hasn't been lost yet. Let's all knock on wood on that folks..... My son looks at his "Blankie" as his imaginary friend that is somwhat solid and has a bit of a security issue in large or new places without it/him so we have always brought Blankie along. No biggie. By the way, out of 4 children my youngest is the ONLY one to have a Lovey. We thought that it was quite cute at first but now we are worrying that he might be taking it on his honeymoon one day. :lmao: ;)

This past January, our first day in the park we didn't bring blankie with, and my 1 year old DS tried climbing into other people's strollers that did have blankies in them. Needless to say, we brought blankie with into the parks the rest of the trip. :)

I was thinking about my daughter's blanket and our trip today too... I know I need it for the hotel, but I wasn't planning to bring it into the parks. I guess we'll see how our first day goes. She will be 18 months old when we go in Sept.

I will be writing our last name and my cell phone number on the tag of her blanket just in case it gets lost. Hopefully with that information, if it is lost and turned in we will be able to get it back quickly. Unfortunately, my daughter fell in love with a blanket that I don't know where to get another one of (it is a red blanket that is a fleece fabric on one side and a smooth cotton on the other with a satin edge and a Christmas Mickey design embroidered on it and is from the Disney Store several years ago). I really wish I could find another one or something similar, but I guess we'll just have to be very careful with the one we have.

The PP mentioned what I was thinking. I was wondering if the OP could get a second The Blankie for her child.

We have two exact same The Blankies for our 2 yo ds. That way one can go with us into the parks, while one stays clean in the room. Then the touring blankie could get a bath that night. (I might institute a blankie stays with the stroller or in the diaper bag rule, so it's not totally disgusting.)

If my child were that age, I absolutely have to bring Yellow Blanket (that's the blanket's full name) to the parks. Heck, he's 7 and YB had to come to the hotel. And I have no problem with that. (I think I was 20 when I gave up my blanket)

We have always had to travel with my dd's yellow blankie. My mom made it for her when she was born, and there is not another one like it. People in the parks would look at my husband and I like we were crazy "covering" up our dd in her stroller with this warm blanket. She didn't care how hot it was outside, she had to have her blankie with her at all times. We even had to carry it on every single ride with us. It was such a pain, but brought her comfort, especially on the dark rides. Now that she is 5, she only brings it in her back pack for the plane ride, and it says in the hotel. It is looking very "loved". I will never forget when she was 2, and had gotten the flu during one of our trips to disney. She threw up all over the bed and of course her yellow blankie! I had to find someone in the hotel to give us quarters to be able to wash and dry her blankie a.s.a.p. My poor husband was trying to calm her down from being sick and because she wanted her blankie. I was sitting in the lobby at 3 a.m waiting for it to be done. When I finally got back to the room, she was so happy to have her blankie back. Needless to say, I'm glad we did bring it because it was the only thing that made her feel better! The only thing we were always worried about was losing it, or leaving it in her volo stroller and someone walking away with it. I'm so glad we can now just leave in one of the drawers in the hotel!!!

One other thing that helped was we carried it in a disney shopping bag, so if it rained it wouldn't get wet, and we didn't look silly carrying this blankie around ourselves!!!:)

aw I'm sorry, that is so precious!!

Our rule has always been that the Lovey (a Mickey Mouse for ds, blankie for youngest dd8) stays in the hotel room. Lovey only left/leaves our house for trips or riding in the car. It only left/leaves the car at Grandma's house. No exceptions.

I was afraid that the Lovey would get lost or left somewhere, so when our oldest became attached to his Mickey Mouse at 9mo or so, I created those rules :)

We do not allow DD to take her blanket (known to this family as Bang....) out of the car when we go out. Obviously, in Disney, we won't have a car, so it will stay in the hotel room (in the suit case when we are not there so Mousekeeping doesn't mistake it for bedding), and never brought to the park. We have gone from 5 blankets to one...... don't know what will happen if we lose this last one!!!

We took DS 1.5's blankie into the park with us nearly every day. It was a pain to keep an eye on, but it really helped him transition in unusual places. His is also looking VERY nasty! When we had dinner at LTT, he dropped it on the floor just as Goofy was walking by. Goofy picked it up for him with the tips of his fingers as he plugged his nose. DH and I were laughing hysterically!!

We brought our DD's Blanket aka "Ga" with us each day. I kept it in the bag until I could tell she was getting tired/cranky then I gave it to her.

It was a pain to constantly check to see if we had the "ga" with us, but well worth it to avoid a meltdown over not having it.

I had originally handmade my son's as part of his crib set. It was supposed to be the crib comforter:sad2: . I guess it comforts...... So we have had to replace the seams on it TWICE.... If I knew how to post pics I have the cutest pic of him asleep with it at the Magic Kingdom. He was so tired it was his 2nd Bday trip.

If you do bring an irreplaceable 'lovey' of any kind to WDW, be careful with it, as there are horror stories on this board about the lovey getting lost.

If you want to leave it in the hotel room, make sure it is not left in the bedding. A previous poster mentioned making sure it was placed in a drawer. Great advice! If left in the bedding, expect it to be very hard to get back.

If you take it to the parks, I wouldn't bring it openly on certain rides like Peter Pan or Pooh - any ride where it could get dropped/kicked/snagged outside of the ride vehicle is a recipe for disaster. Placing it securely in a backpack and taken with you would make it much safer. Leaving it in a rented stroller might seem like a good idea until someone else walks off with your stroller... Leaving it tucked in tightly in your own stroller might be safe, but why risk it?

On the blanket debate- I would leave it at the hotel unless I have 3 or 4 more. As far as age- Im 23 years old. When I was in second grade (7) my mom bought me snuggles (yep snuggles fabric softner) bear, that she really couldnt afford (back then $20 was everything) well, I gave up about 3 weeks ago. I used to sleep with it every night (heck it still sits in my room). I had a blanket before that.

I had been wondering what to do when we go in Sept. My DS - who will be 2-1/2 at that time- has a 'woobie' he loves. It's just an old (pink!) wash cloth!

He has multiple ones, for the car, at grandma's etc. But the pink one is THE ONE he sleeps with. We won't go to bed happy without it.

Thankfully I should be able to give him any old wash cloth (for some reason the rattier the better) for the park and leave the real woobie safely tucked in the safe at the hotel room! :rotfl:

Have no idea how the love affair with a terry cloth started, but when we are out at a friends house he'll steal their hand towels or anything that resembles a wash cloth! It's so funny - and sweet. We have pics of him loving a nasty dish towel hanging from a cabinet!!:rotfl2:
