What topics of conversation cause you to only hear this. For me it's anything technical like how heaters work, why you jumpstart a car a certain way, how electric lights were invented,.... blah blah. Also any sports conversation that goes beyond who won, esp. football. i try to listen, honestly but my inner ear translator just refuses to work.

anything out of my mother in law's mouth.... she is constantly complaining

When my husband tells me about his golf game. Stroke by stroke, hole by hole.

If I wanted to know that much about the game, I'd take it up myself.

Sports. I just tune it all out. Luckily, dh is not interested either but I ignore a lot of it at work.

And, DH, bless his heart. works in a very technical field and I love the fact that he is sure that I totally understand every nuance. Sadly, I don't. :lmao: So sometimes he'll be giving me very technical information and I tell him, "I'm sorry, honey, but I need a more general explanation. You're talking but all I hear is blah, blah, blah."

When DS11 talks about the latest movie or book he's read. If he saw a 90 minute movie, he would take 2 hours to describe it, if you let him. I finally had to make a rule that whenever he wants to talk about the plot to anything he has to condense it to 3 sentences. He's now become the king of run on sentences.

1)Dancing with the stars.
2) Facebook status
3) Tweets
4) i-anything (pad, phone, pod)
5) Groupon

Some of the threads on the DIS :rotfl2:

My best friend talking about her latest illness. Always WAY WORSE than it actually was when she tells someone about it. Plus it gets worse with each telling.

blah blah blah blah blah blah......

Sorry folks, I was just telling Tigeroo how exciting it is sitting here watching the Pittsburgh Penguins playing what will appear to be their 11th win in a row....

When people at work complain about how much work THEY have. Yes, because the rest of us have nothing compared to you.

It's usually the ones that do the least that complain the most, so I just tune them out. I try to stay away from the drama.

College football. I know I was born and raised in the Deep South where that is practically religion but it bores me to tears.

Also when DH starts "talking Army" and every other "word" out of his mouth is an acronym that he then stops and spells out for me, my eyes automatically gloss over. :rolleyes1

The two that you just mentioned and anything about my husbands current job.
(Not his job in the Coast Guard in general, just what they have him currently doing) I don't know how he stands to go to work each day and actually do his job, because my brain heads for the hills just at the mention of it. When people ask me what he does I have to :confused3
He manages some kind of process and it has something to do with blah, blah blah blah blahditty blah blah
Squirrel!!

Oh my. The acronyms are the WORST!!
I actually know a few spouses who talk like that too, and their husbands are in the Navy so their acronyms are all different (that or they just have WAY more than the Coast Guard does). I use to have to participate in daily "conversations" with one of my neighbors that basically just consisted of me nodding my head and saying "oh yeah" or "oh yeah?" every few seconds while I thought of my grocery list, and new ways to avoid my neighbor.

When, unsolicited, my husband excitedly is explaining how his new contraption works or that he has an app for that and why don't I do this or that or blah blah blah.

I tune it out.

After 12 years of marriage, I finally made him aware that we are two very very different people and I really just am not into all the technical stuff and that I do things differently. I don't need "an app for that". I don't care that you have one remote that can control 52 different devices. Why do we have 52 devices? No wait--don't tell me, I don't really want to know.:scared1:

And then the kids....there are moments.:rolleyes1

Yes.... DH is in the guard and he does the whole acronyms thing too and it drives me bonkers! He's a pilot and whenever he and his buddies get together they talk about airplanes with a whole bunch of technical terms... OH GAWD... make it stop!:lmao: Also...anytime someone over analyzes anything it drives me nuts and the brain gets turned off!:cutie: I've read threads on here and on another board that I frequent where people are always analyzing Disney's "hidden motive" for everything.... really people... it's a business.... to make MONEY.... any other reason would not make sense.... it's all for monetary gain... move on!:rotfl2:

This, exactly. My DH started talking today about a particular high-end furnace and what makes it superior and how it works and where it's manufactured and blah blah blah. I said to him "does it heat the house? Great." ;)
