I’m thinking about getting a Blackstone. Dh isn’t really interested in getting one, but I am. We use our grill a few times a week from March until October.

What do you cook on your Blackstone?
Upkeep and cleaning easy?
Any recommendations on what to buy?

What do you have currently?

I ended up replacing one of the grates in my Webber gas grill with a cast iron flattop insert. I'm very happy with it, but its a bit of work to keep it clean, season it etc... You have to heat it up for about an hour to get to temp and then let it cool for about an hour before you clean it.

Its great for burgers, fish, chicken and vegetables. Does a very good job and its nice to not have to worry about smoke detectors going off when you sear a steak etc...

When the times comes that I have to replace the grill I may get a flattop, but I do like the flexibility of having half grill half flattop.

We have a gas grill. I’m not sure the brand. Dh does all of the grilling now. I know it’s not a Weber. The griddle would be in addition to the grill we have now.

I have had a Blackstone for a decade. It is great. You can cook anything on it. Breakfast is especially easy. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, all at the same time. It does not take long to heat up, and cleaning is easy.
Turn off the gas, and while it is hot, pour on about 1-2 cups of water and scrape with a good metal pancake flipper or scraper. Do this 3 to 4 times as it cools off. Then wipe down with paper towels. Last but not least, wipe a thin coat of oil (I use vegetable oil usually) to prevent rusting. Super fast, super easy.

We've been using Blackstones for a few years. We have a smaller one for camping and a larger one on our patio. Last night I cooked pancakes on it. We also have a gas grill, and will fluctuate what we use based what we're cooking.

What do I cook on ours:
Breakfast; pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes
Other meals: burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, steak, chicken, quesadillas, ground beef for tacos, sliced onions/peppers/mushrooms for fajitas or steak, sliced veggies as side dishes.

I typically cook what others have mentioned. Its kind of like taking care of a oversized cast iron skillet. When first seasoning it I used grapeseed oil. Just use one that has a high smoke point. Couple things to buy for sure if it doesn't come with them is a hard top and then a soft cover to go over that.

DH wanted one, he loves it. We’ve had ours for a few years. We cooked meatballs on it the other night when it was super hot outside to keep the house cool. I like that there’s less char on food than there is from traditional grilling, but you still can definitely get a good sear on meats. We cook lots of things on it besides meats, too, and use it year round.

I used to see people pull them off the flatbed of a pickup truck at the campground. It generally meant a big ol party group was setting up and they planned to be there for at last 3 nights of hard drinking and loud music. Cool by me as long as they didn’t get stuck in a Grand Funk Railroad or Captain and Tennille groove (Oh just shudder me freaking up!) But I digress.

As others have noted they are great for hot breakfasts and meals that involve lots of veggies like sausage and peppers.

Yes, to caring for the cooking surface like a CI skillet; take good care and it will love you back.

Were I someone who entertained a lot or regularly cooked for more than four people, I’d consider the purchase of this type of cooking surface worthwhile. Otherwise I’d just get an add on accessory to my existing grill or a smaller stand alone unit. Just my two cents worth of thought👋🏾.

Oh and I have cooked on a flat surface though never owned one; it was fun.

Perfect songs for out door Stovin.

🤣😂😅👀🤨🥶
Just so you ‘now …I would have to speak to them about the music's volume cuz that’s just wrong on so very many level- explain to me why anyone besides an exterminator would care about rodent procreation??
As for that other group..the things people do for money and the oops is on them.

I have completely abandoned any thoughts of every buying an expensive grill again, built to break - I remember when a grill lasted my entire childhood. No matter what I did over and over manufacturers always slide some junk components into the mix that rust and the whole thing kept ending up trash in 2-3 years. During quarantine I got annoyed and picked up a plain lightweight grill for maybe $130 at HD or Lowes. This one also lasted around 3 years, but the upside is I was able to get it to the street easily and people picked it up who know how to finagle and fix such things, lesson learned, more is not necessarily better.

For a minute I thought this was the restaurant from the Real Housewives of NJ, one of my fav trashy TV franchises but that is the Brownstone and the Manzos, still this gave me a giggle.

That's the thing. My favorite BBQ is still the $139 Weber large Kettle. No frills. You get huge bang for the buck. Right out of the box you can grill with it or you can shove your fuel all to one side for quick smoking. It is slow smoking capable, but if you're going to do a lot of that, for convenience, I would suggest some sort of after market fuel box and a hinged top grate. That's still less than $250 for a rig that can compete on almost even terms with the 10k-50k rigs people bring to competitions. Not bad at all. To be honest, I have to babysit my little Weber much more than they do. 10-50k will get you a great rig with a lot of automation and set it and forget it convenience. Heck. Most 1500-2000 dollar rigs will have that too. But that modified Weber of mine has all the tools. You can control temperature and smoke level well with it. And really, I have seen very little that can beat it and a ton of junk until you get into rigs that cost a couple thou. The worst offenders. Those side fuel box smokers that really only can smoke stuff and don't do it well. Many of those are just so bad they make what should not be difficult extremely difficult. I've seen a couple of good ones but most of em will flat out rip your BBQ soul out.

I think they sampled something illegal in the Captain's cargo hold when they thought of that one.

This. I owned 2 charcoal Webers: the large kettle for parties and a Go Anywhere for upto 5/6 people. Things of beauty, easy to adapt and hard to destroy. My one regret over this apt. is no terrace to grill on.
