I just received an email from BlackRapid announcing the release of the long awaited adapter bolt so you can leave a Manfrotto RC2 plate on your camera or lens and still use the BlackRapid strap.

Here's the link:

I placed an order for one, we'll see how it works.

Regards,

Boris

Very cool... but $18 for just a screw with a ring on the back seems awfully pricey... but still cool. :)

My only problem, now that I often use a battery grip, is how intrusive the connection is when holding the camera in portait mode (plus you need more length to reach that high) - not a dealbreaker but somewhat annoying.

that's the beauty of the optech dual harness, using the original strap mounts rather than the tripod mount, no problem using vertical grip, plus less stress on flash mount if you are using flash

Plus $5 for shipping. I almost hit cancel over that- but since that Manfrotto part almost cost me a D700 and a 14-24/2.8 I just  and paid it.

Thanks for the link Boris.

I've been on the fence for a while. This may just be the straw that finally tips me over in favor of getting the BR strap.

Just an update to this... I was thinking that despite the relatively tall price tag, I'd pull the trigger on this to have it for the next trip, and low and behold, it was "out of stock". http://www.blackrapid.com/product/hardware/fr-t1/

A day later, it reads:
We are working together with Manfrotto to ensure that the FR-T1 will work with as many plates as possible. We are currently in final testing on a slightly updated version and will have the FR-T1 back in stock soon.

If you have discovered that your FR-T1 does not properly fit your RC-2 plate, please contact BlackRapid customer service with any concerns.

Apparently there's been some issues with it? For those who have it, how do you like it?

I will probably still buy it but it still kills me that it's $18 for basically a bolt with a D-ring attached. But, they did give me a $60 strap for free, so I guess I shouldn't complain!

Mine works just fine. I use it all the time tripod shooting or not since it prevents the scuffing on the bottom of the camera that the regular connector causes.

I like my Black Rapid - have had it for over a year and recently upgraded to the R-3 Fastener. But, I had a near disaster with the R-2 fastener coming loose and falling off my 7D; luckily I had picked up the camera by the body and the strap just fell off. I had tightened just like they suggest on the site too. Now I check the tightness every time I pick it up.

Good to hear. Yes, the scratching is a big reason why I would want it. I'm not crazy about the extra weight of the QR mount being there 100% of the time, but I'm already going to have to explain the scratches on the edge of the K-7 when I sell it; I am being very careful on the K-5 to keep the locking ring facing the front of the camera. I may have to pick up a Fastenr-3, too.

The BlackRapid is probably the best option out there now for a camera strap yet it still has its share of drawbacks. (Being in the way for portrait shooting w/battery grip being a big one.) Unfortunately, I can't think of any way of solving these issues!
