Black Friday

Unpopular opinion in the 2020s… YESSSSSS!!!!! I can’t wait.

Online shopping is just… flat. No hustle. No excitement. Just slouching.

Yes. Black Friday morning was always "all hands on deck" day for morning news shows at TV stations. With the advent of backpacks that allowed us to go live without a live truck, even though I was someone who normally working in the newsroom, on Black Friday I was out with a camera and a backpack unit doing live shots, most frequently from Target or Best Buy. Retired 4 years ago, so this will be my 5th Black Friday where I am not involved in covering the chaos. I will be in bed, asleep.

I don’t like going out and fighting the crowds, but I do like getting deals online. A lot of stores are starting sales earlier than Black Friday, so I am keeping my eyes open for things I want to give as gifts and for things I need for myself (I really need some new non stick cookware).

I used to have to work on Black Friday so I would head out about 3:30am and hit some stores before going into work.

Nowadays since most stores have deemed the entire month of November as Black Friday in an attempt to curb the craziness and danger that the actual day has always been famous for, I didn't think it was that big of a thing anymore. But I guess I wouldn't really know since I don't partake. The day after Thanksgiving is always the day I stay at home and put up my Christmas decorations.

Toys R Us used to become gridlocked with carts starting midnight after Thanksgiving. I do not miss those days.

I’m looking forward to Kohls Veteran’s Day sale. Stacking coupons and free MVC shipping. I’m always able to completely finish shopping for GD13 and get her a lot of stuff for the money.

No interest in shopping, let alone shopping in massive crowds. If the weather is nice I'll maybe take a nice long hike to work off some of the stuffing and pie, and then be lazy and take an afternoon nap.

Yes! I look forward to it every year.

I like the travel deals that have popped up over the years during this time so I'll be on the lookout to book my next cruise during this time. NCL normally has good deals during this time. DCL... I wish. 😂

Disney Gift Cards do usually go discounted somewhere for BF, either Sam's Club or Best Buy. I've also jumped on a few of the SeaWorld AP deals they've had during that time.

We will do any big shopping online and have it shipped to our house before tackling the crowds generally. My mom and I used to go out at 2:00am on Black Friday before Covid - fun memories but now the deals aren't that good and stores aren't even open that early. My husband and I usually go to Target, Home Depot, etc on Friday afternoon to see what they have, but this year we will be in Rehoboth so we may check out the outlet mall there but more likely the local shops.

Best time of year to get men's dress clothes and good quality coats, which are impossible to find in stores for some weird reason so online works better.

Last year I found a great Black Friday deal for tires from Walmart and I think one our cars could use them this year too so I'll be on the lookout. It was odd we needed to accept delivery to the house then bring them into the store to get them put on but it saved hundreds in the end so worth it.

It's a good time to buy big ticket items.

I also used to enjoy the festive spirit of Black Friday in stores, there is none of that now it's more perfunctory but a thing I wait for anyway.

only once have I ventured out on Black Friday. it was thanksgiving night 2006 and we were living just a few blocks from a Walmart. I got a burst of energy around 11 p.m. and told dh I wanted to see what all the excitement was about that had annual news coverage showing people lined up for hours for the midnight 'rope drop'. I sat in my car and watched from a distance as the crowd waited in anticipation and then my jaw dropped as I saw people surge when the door opened and start literally climbing over one another to get to the electronics department (no idea what the big draw was). after the surge I walked in and turned in the opposite direction of the crowd as I remarked to a couple of the staff members 'they do not pay you folks near enough to deal with this level of crazy'-they smiled and nodded in agreement. the only thing I remember getting (and I was'nt even looking for anything in particular) was a couple of large (like 2' tall) Bratz dolls for $5 each.

I do 99.9% of my holiday shopping online-i can get the same deals with no crowds or crazy. easier return as well (everything is in the system to just print up the return paperwork for in-store or return mail). dh and I DO venture out together at least once during the holiday season to a funky little neighborhood that has a great retro toy/odds and ends shop-great place to snag stocking stuffers.

It’s not really the same for me as it used to be. The deals tend to be spread it over 4-6 weeks. I also don’t think the deals are as good as they used to be.

These days I tend to look more for travel deals. I am hoping Royal Caribbean has a good sale like last year. I’d like to add on excursions, drinks, dining, and internet to a cruise I have booked . I also wouldn’t mine another trip. I would love Disney to offer a great travel deal but I don’t see that happening.
