What are the best deals you have seen for either Xbox 360 or Xbox One? Looking to get one for my 12 yo. Really don't want/need any of the more violent/mature games. He really wants it for Disney Infinty 2.0. He has the 1.0 but was able to play it on the Wii we have. Trying not to spend too much. (Of course)

Walmart has a 4 gb Xbox 360 for $99 as a doorbuster beginning at 6pm on Thursday.
Target has a 4 gb Xbox 360 with Kinect for $179 also beginning at 6 pm on Thursday.
Another option: Toys R Us has a Wii U bundle with the new Skylanders Swapforce for $199 beginning at 5pm on Thursday. I only mentioned this one because of the backward compatability with the Wii games.
Side note: all Disney Infinity 2.0 characters are buy one get one 70% off at Toys R Us during their sale also.

The XBox 360 might be a good choice for your son because it's is so much cheaper and he's not a serious gamer. Just keep in mind that over the next 1-2 years they will most likely stop making games compatible with that system. So factor that in to your decision. From everything I've read recently, Wii U should only be considered a viable option if you want to play Mario Bros games.

Microsoft will support the Xbox 360 until 2016. It will still be good for gaming for many years.

Do you have a link to the Toys R Us Wii sale?

I assume that Target deal is only available in stores as it is a doorbuster. Is that correct?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far :) I had actually been thinking about the $99 XBox 360. My fear is that with it being only 4G it will "get filled up" too quickly. I figure once he has a new system, he will want to expand from Disney Infinity into other games. Not very familiar with any game consoles. We only have owned the Wii and while we have used it I would say it didn't get as much use as I would have expected. They always prefered their DS. Any experiences to share?

They sell an external hard drive for the 360...and with many gamers moving on to other systems, there might be refurb'ed ones cheaper than the $100-$120 usual cost.

I think the 360 is a great choice for a newer gamer (didn't catch the age, but there is a nice variety in the system) if he likes Infinity, there is Minecraft...and a lot of the Lego titles are a blast (I LOVE the Star Wars ones and the Harry Potter ones). with so many games in the system library, there should be plenty to expend into...and if you have a Gamestop near, there should be plenty of used copies of games for a nice discount to keep him busy.

Added: Reading back I see he is 12...yes, Minecraft and the Lego games would be a blast for him

Our son basically filled his up in the first 4 months. We bought the hardrive -which came with Star Wars Legos 3 - and now we have plenty of memory to spare. It wasn't cheap though...I want to say it was near $150 or so.

Our XBox is indispensable in our house. We use it as our primary "entertainment system" after ditching cable 6 months ago. Recently the fan started getting really loud when it runs, we are looking at standing in line at Walmart to get the $99 deal. We almost considered getting the XboxOne but the price was to much.
My kids play Disney Infinity, Minecraft, Portal, all the Lego games, and DDR. They are 11 and 13. I have found it can be challenging sometimes to find appropriate games for them. For example my 13 year old really wants Grand Theft Auto 5...that would be a fat NO. She also asked for Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I have my own personal gamer friend that I vet all games through and get his opinion on whether it's teen friendly or not.

Portal!!! Forgot that one, DD's (13) favorite..and not just because the sarcastic computer sounds like DW in her mind :)

Have you looked at the Batman Arkham series? it is rated Teen, and is similar in style to Assasins Creed...has some borderline language (nothing worse than prime time TV that I can recall though) violence of course...though as you play Batman, you only use non-lethal force. With Arkham City you can even play as Catwoman (DD likes that, so few games she can play a female character).

Of course my biggest problem is she wants to watch me play Bioshock: Infinite...wish there was a way to turn down the violence so I didn't have to pause when she starts to hang out.

....

Keep in mind that if you get an Xbox One, you cannot play your Xbox 360 games on it.
