Considering a Kindle for our family--wondering if anyone's seen any ads for BF with possible Kindle deals/combos.

Thanks.

No info but just wanted to say I'm right there with you! I want a kindle also, and I'll be looking out for a BF deal! :)

I'm not a Black Friday shopper usually, but I figure that may be my best chance for some sort of special offer. I googled it to see if anything would come up, and some websites indicated a possible $20 off the WiFi+3G version, along with a $50 gift card for book downloads. That would be enough to get me to purchase, but right now I can't find any solid BF deals for it.

I'll be watching out for a Kindle deal too! Hope we find something good!

Keep in mind the Kindle is exclusive to Amazon.com and Target.

As this is something that doesn't typically go on sale, I wouldn't hold my breath for a BF deal.

As for Black Friday, proper - the only known ad that has been "leaked" is Harbor Freight -- expect more, as we roll into November.

Staples now carries Kindles also.

There are reports that Best Buy will sell the Kindle, too.

Our Best Buy has them. They also had a pamplet with the pros and cons for the different e-readers which was very helpful. I wouldn't want to be near a BB on Black Friday though.

Do your research. After I really looked, I went with the Nook. The Kindle is so proprietary and you are pretty much stuck with nothing but books you bought from Amazon on it because they use encrypted MOBI format and don't accept use ePub format. Every other reader on the market (and there are around 30) accept ePub format so want to guess what format things like online libraries are using? Also, you can strip the encryption off Kindle books, convert them to ePub format, and upload them on the Nook. Going the other way is much harder.

Although I'm a huge BN fan, I love my Kindle. My SIL has already cracked her Nook, which she's had less than six months. I'm getting my DD a Kindle for Christmas. Even though she's in college, she's pretty rough on her electronics. We've replaced a computer and 2 cell phones. Thank goodness for warranties! :lmao:

The Kindly wi-fi without the 3G is much cheaper. I am thinking of one for my Mom. She will download at home and has a home computer but not a wireless router. Can she just attach the kindle to the computer and download from Amazon. She is not one to use the email and web surfing part of the kindle at all.
