BEST BUY: RIPPED

I was in the local Best Buy today and actually found someone willing to share a bit of info.
The laptop that will be sold cheap($209 to $229 range) this year will possibly be a Dell. The drawback is NO CD/DVD drive. I believe this is really good info because the person volunteering it has been really go on info in the past ( he is the floor manager). What looks like the best deal is going to be 2 different TV's. One is an incredible deal ( like 60% off normal price). The really good deals will be in the online addition like they did last year. The desktop will be like the last 2 years ( $199).

I have 2 different people in this particular store that are really good about giving info to me and my wife. Yes there is some secrecy surrounding the deals but they cooperate a lot more than Wal Mart.

Super Secret Sale this Saturday at Walmart. Anyone want to give an opinion on that laptop (for my 9 yr old)?

Hard to say. They don't provide enough information to really tell. And the part number listed only exists in the press release. It should be ok if they only want to surf the internet and do reports using Microsoft Word. It may NOT include an OS, or if it does, there is a chance it is some Linux variant as that is too dirt cheap to include Vista. Most real games won't play on that system. The SIMS should be ok, but if there is any chance of them wanting to play anything more involved, no chance. Probably weighs a ton and has terrible battery life. It should be ok for a 9 yr old, but you will most likely end up tossing it in a year or two for something newer.

There's two closing within 40 miles of my home. Any idea what's going on sale. Maybe I can stock up on some christmas gifts.

All reports point towards a standard liquidation sale. Everything was marked back up to full price (Or higher) and then put on 5-10% off. Some people are claiming it will get bumped up that same 5-10% off every Monday until it sells. The closing stores are being sold by a liquidation company, and NOT Circuit City from everything I have seen.

Not trying to put a damper on things, but has anyone else noticed how the Saturday sale with Walmart, though the prices seem great, there are limited amounts to each store, some things each store only gets 4 of them, so if your not there early enough to be those first couple people your out of luck, to me in my honest opinion, it's worse then trying to be there early on Black Friday. JMO :confused3 ;)

Thanks for the specs. Not having really researched computers lately, I'm just wondering if this machine would be sufficient for what I use it for (mainly e-mail, surfing and occasionally logging onto work from home)? A

And what does this mean: Wireless Option - 802.11b/g WLAN, Audio - Altec Lansing. Will I be able to use a wireless router?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Has anyone ever gone to one of these secret sales? Is it as bad as Black Friday? I'm thinking of replacing my laptop, and wondering if I even have a shot, and what time I would need to show up. Thanks everyone!

if you go to Walmart's website it shows how many are in each store and how many per person is allowed the computer has the highest at 10 per store, the rest of the deals only have 5 or under per store.
In my opinion you would have better luck on Black Friday, then at least have more per store that day. I would love to get the PS3 for my kids, but at only 4 per store do you know how early you have to be there and wait and hope your one of the 4 ?? This was the only point I was trying to make. Depends how early you want to get up and wait?:confused3

The add is showing the minimum per store so they could actually have more in stock. I believe its the TV says limit 1 per customer.

I'm wondering the same thing. I really want to get my hubby one for Christmas so I can have my laptop back. he's using it for school/work right now and I used it mainly for photo editing. This one would probably be fine for his word processing, but I don't want to waist my time and precious gas if I don't have a shot in you-know-what.

yes I understanding what your saying, but anytime I've seen Walmart have sales like this even on black Friday when they say that it usually means that is what they have, don't get me wrong I could be incorrect, as my husband tells me, I've been wrong before. Just going on my past history with our local Walmart. When the sale says a certain amount that is what it has??:confused3
Maybe if we contact them and ask we'll hear something beofre tomorrow....

I just found this thread and am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO grateful! My mom, sisters, and I go every year and do some mad shopping at one of the biggest (& busiest :headache: ) malls in the country (Woodfield...outside of Chicago). We always have a plan and are out of the mall by noon.

Can't wait! :yay:

I got to Walmart at 7 am and I was only the second person in line. Our store had 56 laptops for this sale. In the past I know the numbers were very limited. I guess this year may be different.

Our local WalMart had 44. DD and I each got one. :thumbsup2 They were giving out numbers to people who wanted one so people knew if they were waiting around for nothing.

awesome guys, maybe this year will be different, maybe Walmart is really going to help the consumers these holidays like in the news release!! It's nice to know someone is willing to help!:thumbsup2
Hope this means there will be plenty on Black Friday as well, of course our Walmart isn't the greatest, everytime I get used to buying something I go back and they no longer sell it, they do this alot.......:confused3

I didn't have any luck with the laptop. I went to three different wal marts and they were completely sold out. I personally think that they started the sale before 8am, because at one I was there at 7 and nothing. I'm really aggrivated and discouraged!!! It's something we really needed, too.

dont be discouraged and keep your eyes open, you will see this special again!
