I used to love BF shopping. This year I am not feeling it. I don't want to shop on Thanksgiving- for the workers and myself. I used to love waking up early, hitting a few stores when they opened at 6am. Then the craziness at 3am… then midnight… now BF bleeding into Thanksgiving dinner I am passing this year. I may shop online. It is disappointing; I loved what it used to be; not so much now. Anyone else feel sad about it all?

Oh, yes, so not feeling it this year. Might, possibly go out at midnight to hit midnight madness at patriot place and grab one of their gift bags (which have a raffle ticket in them) but otherwise no plans to go out on thanksgiving. Only heading out to Bass Pro on Black Friday for their 5AM opening.

I'm right there with ya. I don't know WHAT is going on with me this year but I am really in a funk. :crazy2: I think, for one, that with my kids getting older (13,15,20) it's not as "magical" as it used to be. They are still fun to shop for, but not nearly as fun as when they were little and believed in Santa.

I typically am showing serious restraint to not put my tree up like 2 weeks before Christmas. This year? Meh...
I'm getting a new tree this year so you'd think I'd be super excited. :confused3

I don't know what it is this year...but I don't like it one bit.

I plan on going out on Friday to Home Depot to get my tree, and swing into a few places to see what catches my eye, but the majority of my shopping will be done online. And honestly, there's not much fun in that. I used to love being amongst the hoopla of Black Friday, but with it all starting on Thanksgiving night it just ruins it for me.

Yes. I so don't like the Black Friday creep into Thanksgiving. Although I am going out tomorrow to Walmart's. It's still not the same. Waking up at 2 AM on Black Friday and getting much of the Christmas shopping done by dawn. It's a tradition that's, sadly, over.

The retailers said we demanded the stores opening on Thanksgiving. I don't see anybody out there demanding it. Besides the stores.

I may shop online but not in stores. I worked in a pharmacy through high school and college and often worked on Thanksgiving. It always made me sad to miss the festivities. People had to have medication, so I understand, but unless it's a necessary service, stores should be closed.

Totally agree. I loved getting up when it was still dark out. And back when I worked retail, the early morning shift on black friday was my favorite shift of the year. It was back when everyone knew they were nuts, but were having fun anyway!!

I could even deal with 10pm openings on Thanksgiving, but now it's just blah.

I think I will get up and go out on Friday morning but I don't have high hopes. And after I see what I can get online tomorrow it may not even be necessary (don't think I'm going to find a great deal on the gym socks my dad asked for).

I am working this Black Friday for the first time in about 25 years. I thought I'd be missing the BF madness, but I'm not. My brother works retail and starts work at five tomorrow evening. So, we're not having our traditional Thanksgiving dinner either.
I think I'll do some online shopping for a few items, but I mostly plan to shop small and local. Take that greedy big name retailers!

I feel ya. I loved getting up at crazy hours and getting a great deal on stuff. Now that it has bled into Thanksgiving I'm just not into it. My husband was on the police force for 18 years so I get that people need to work Thanksgiving. I just don't think my getting a great deal on a TV or toys trumps family time for others who could just as easily work the next day. I may do some online. I will probably head out Friday for a few stores but it's not the same at all.

Me too. It was a family tradition for my mom and I to get up before the sun and shop all morning. But with all the earlier and earlier openings on Thanksgiving and the fact my mom cannot get out that much, my kids are teens and do not need much, I will not go out on Thanksgiving. If I miss deals tomorrow, oh well. Seems that good deals were had last week, and I will generally peek at online prices tomorrow, but that is about it. No crazy this year, and I did not do as crazy last year either. I guess the idea of Black Friday has meant less and less to me.

It's ridiculous how it has started earlier and earlier every year. Stores should not be open Thanksgiving. I can't believe the amount of Black Friday deals that started early online all this week too. It's just not the same anymore.

I used to enjoy going out and getting the "door prize" that was giving away at several stores. But now it is only JcP (in my area) and they are starting at 5pm. I am going to stop by to see if they have of the Snow Globes left on my way home (since I have to drive right past it on my way home.) But I won't be doing any shopping.

I remember when it was like a ghost town after about 12 on thanksgiving. Even the grocery stores were closed. I remember going Black Friday shopping as a teen with some family and we had to stand in line in the dark. It was exciting then, not so anymore. It's become just another day to me. I haven't even wanted to pick up stuff at stores for the last couple days, just to avoid the crowds. I went on Monday to trader joes and it was packed.

It feels more like Terrible Thursday and Frantic Friday, bag humbug lol

Yeah. The party is over. The deals started a week ago. I say just get what you can get online and don't worry about it.

It's been a tradition for my mom and I to go out on Black Friday. We were never the ones who went out at 2 am anyway. We're going to just go and see what's to see after the waves of early shoppers go home.

The deals have been online for most stores all week. Takes the fun out of it.

NO Blues here. I'm done. It's just 8:00 a.m and I was able to get all my Black Friday purchases today online and delivered for free. :cool1:

Good for you. I missed the Xbox deal at Target probably by a 1/2 hour. I ended up getting the xbox with extra controller at Best Buy. It was more than I wanted to spend but it does come with the kinect. The Target one didn't.

Never interested in Black Friday deals. If it was a fun thing I might be interested but from the outside it seems so stressful!

I think it's terrible that some companies are making people work on Thanksgiving. Even starting at midnight impacts people's family time. I know someone who has to work retail at that time and she pretty much has to sleep through Thanksgiving in order to stay up all night. They've got her working a shift and a half starting at midnight, basically.

This is exactly how I feel...

That is the way I feel as well. Infact a few weeks ago a guy came up to me and said he felt the same way. I just put in an order at Best Buy so I am a little up. I normally spend quite a bit at Target(I work there) but this year I only want the Kcups and if they still have the Just dance game DD wants when I get out of work. In years past my kids have waited in line and we spent several hundred.

I also used to get up early for Black Friday. It was part of our gals' Thanksgiving traditions. Now, the deals are not so special, and the event has spilled into our wonderful Thanksgiving Thursday in a way that has spoiled the day for a lot of families. It was a greedy take-away move, maybe that's why I don't like it. It was/is completely unnecessary.
