For the first time ever I'm going to be a Black Friday shopper! While I don't know if there is anything I'm dying to have I just want to be out and about in the bustle and my mother is willing to get up at dawn-thirty to come with me!

So - I'm thinking about starting with the Target wake-up call from Kermit the frog.....what should I do next?

My advice is shop online! :goodvibes

Seriously, if you are set on doing this, good luck! One year I cried because I was stuck in the mall lot and could not get out due to all the traffic.

My advice? Stay home in your nice, warm bed, and sleep in! :teeth:

My mom & sister are spending the night! I can't wait! Fist we like to go to WaWa to get a cup of coffee. It so fun to just walk in there & see dozens of other woman excited! Hearing people talk about where they are going & what they are buying! :teeth: Next we head to Toys R Us. We only need a few things there, but their line is so exciting. For big ticket items, like game systems, they pass out tickets. This is nice because then you are guarenteed the item. Next we'll probably hit Target & then the mall. Maybe breakfast at the food court. I can't wait! :cheer2: Kermit will be calling with our wakeup call too!

Always have someone watch your back. I had two women fist fighting behind me over some kind of toy. Wear good running shoes.

And try and stay calm when you are stuck in the middle of the crowd and can't get out.

running shoes.
Coffee. Lots of Coffee.
wear clothes that you dont' mind 'messing up'
Stay calm in crowds.
if someone tries to pick a fight, back off. These people are dangerous.
Eat good. YOu don't wanna get hungry.
Have a plan. Don't be spontanious. On thursday check out all of hte sales, and form an attack plan. Like go to target, walmart, toys R us. etc.
Be prepaired for loud, mean, scary crowds.
Don't be at the VERY front of a door buster. There is a reason they call them that. ;)

Good Luck!

I will be joining the hustle and bustle as well. Can't wait. I really don't have a lot to buy but it is just something about getting up and going shopping seeing everyone buying their Christmas gifts. Just gets me even more in the holiday spirit. I am actually starting out at the Disney Store this year then will probably head to Target. Good luck with all of your shopping and remember most people are as nice as can be but occasionally you will find that one or two but don't let that spoil your holiday fun.

Don't go with any expectations of getting any particular item. Go with the flow. If you allow yourself to get irritated it won't be any fun. I don't have anything on the list and I'm NOT about to get up at the crack of dawn but I have a babysitter lined up for 8:00. I haven't seen anything in the ads this year I must get by the time the sale is up. I haven't even decided which store to get to first. We have a Shopko around here and I haven't seen that add yet, so that's a possiblity.

here's some "general holiday shopping advice"

1. dress in layers...your best bet is a long sleeve shirt, with a short sleeve shirt, topped with a fleece vest (they fold up small)

2. carry a purse that goes "across" your body...MUCH more comfortable then dealing with a shoulder or hand bag

3. make sure said purse is big enough to hold a bottle of water. (I, personally, get super dehydrated when shopping...put the mini pint size poland spring waters in there or a 24oz sport top

4. pack a snack. You think the stores are crowded? wait until you see the drive-thru lines! Pack a power bar/luna bar/protein bar...it'll keep you going.

5. wear comfortable shoes. light weight ones...and NO wool socks (trust me on that one!)

6. if you have coupons/flyers/etc...get the organized the night before and put in your purse so you don't forget them.

7. Have a sense of humor about it all...it is what it is...a nightmare!

Have fun!

All points I agree with, especially #1, 2, 5, 6 & most of all #7!

Ok - I cleaned my basement and came back to lots of good advice - thanks so much!

I don't think I could say it better than stinkerbelle.

Have fun!! That's what it's about.

Like some others have mentioned (on other threads) - you could probably get the same deals online....but it's about the Christmas feeling, people watching, stuff like that.

I like to be nice to the employees at the stores, b/c it seems like they HATE to be there on that day. Kind of like spreading the pixie dust!!! ;)

1:)Feel free to use elbows whenever the need arises.

2:)Shout, "Wow someone stinks" whenever someone invades your personal space. If they dont move, feel free to fart on them.

3:) If shopping at Sams of Costco, make sure you stop at all the food sampling tables at least twice.

4:) If you take the last of an item on the shelf, make sure you dance and jump up and down making a scene. If others are with you, have them applaud.

DH has to work on Friday, so he offered to stop and wal-mart to pick-up what I wanted from the ad!

To the OP have fun :cheer2:

I am in for BF. Only to go to the nearby Target though. There is a Starbucks so I will be quit comfortable for the early morning. Then I will go back and rest for the remainder of the day. I just can't not be at Target on one of busiest days of the year.
