Black Friday 2012?

Are we making this the official BF 2012 thread? I can't wait for this HOLIDAY!!!!!

BF is worse and worse every year.

Doubtful we do any BF shopping this year. Maybe something on line.

Just recieved an email , that Walmart and Best Buy will be open at midnight.

Darn!i really disliked the midnight sales opening. Way too many people to get the good deals. Now other stores will follow suit. Also, the online sales were crazy last year. It was difficult to figure out when things were going on sale online. Best Buy started putting the BF sale items up little by little from midnight until 6am. Who wants to sit by their computer for 6 hours waiting for a sale item to go live? I prefer a sale to start at a specific time and the early bird gets the worm. I miss the days of getting in line at 5:45 for a 6am opening, and being the 50th person in line, not the 5,000th! And the stores used to hand out free breakfast food like Pop Tarts, coffee, and juice while we were in line.

Well maybe at least this means Walmart wont open at 10 again this year. Last year it was insane at my Walmart cause we were there for the 10PM specials but werent able to get many of the other specials because we werent allowed out of line but they let folks walk around the stores and open up all the pallets and fill up their carts, then we had to wait in long long lines to get the few items we had left in our carts after buying our xbox's and by that time it was almost 12 I didnt get out of the store till after 2AM it was ridiculous. I hope this year after all the complaints they revamp the way they do things.
And I remember waiting at Best buy at 2AM and they would give out coffee and donuts. I miss the old days too.

I have never heard of this or seen this.

I have never seen anyone hand out food or drink, that must of been nice. I didn't mind the 4 am openings, but not midnight.

Last year our Walmart, which is open 24 hrs, had the pallets of regular items like sheets, coffee makers...by 7pm on Thanksgiving evening. People started ripping them open, they were all in clear wrap, and putting the items in their cart. We arrived at 9:30 for the 10:00 deals, and many things were gone, in peoples carts! I complained to the mgr and he said they couldn't stop the people. It was unbeleivable.

People were parked in lots of stores across the 8 lane roads, running across with their kids, cops had to be called to control fights over spaces, it was a madhouse. My DH says never again!

We live a about 1 mile away , next yr I told him maybe he can meet me with the golf cart, so we don't have to park but he's still saying never again. I think he was traumitized! He also couldn't beleive people get up and early to do this kind of shopping.

When on earth was that? I'm jealous. I stopped working in retail in 1993, and I think even at the small-chain craft store I worked at, we had at least 51 people outside at quarter-til.

Yeah, Walmarts get pretty insane... I don't go there unless they REALLY have something I want... The ones by my house have had police outside the whole time, just in case... and while it does get packed and logjammed and crazy, we have always been able to get what we want. Our stores usually have employees "guarding" the pallets.

Last year it was me and two nieces, so I could be in three places at once! :rotfl2: One of us would have the cart, and the others would be slipping off down the aisles and bringing things back. It helps to have cellphones in a bigger store like Walmart, it's easy to get separated.

Again, it's not a place I would go unless it was a fantastic deal... too many crazies.

The ToysRUs here used to give out Pop Tarts, granola bars and juice to people waiting in line. One year Target handed out coupons for a free breakfast sandwich for Burger King (no purchase necessary). And I remember one year getting a pre-packaged bagel while standing in line (I think it was at a K-Mart).

Some stores opened at 5am, some at 6am, and some at 7am, and it was easy to get in & out of the first store and head to the next one and stand in line. My friend and I had a game plan where I'd grab a cart and get one item and then get in the checkout line while my friend would dash around and get he other things on the list and then meet me in line. We'd be in and out in 15 minutes and then off to the next store. It was lots of fun! We'd be done with the big box door busters by 8:30am. Then we'd hit the mall.

Did what I needed to do on Thanksgiving online last year. Hope to be done before then this year.

I love black friday!! I go with my DH and tell him I feel like a hunter hunting wild game.

Good website....bfads.net

I refer to it the same way! Men hunt animals, women hunt BARGAINS! lol!

I also love bfads.net

I have always been able to shop Best Buy's BF sales online on Thanksgiving DAy with no problem. I think they go live around noon.

I have heard these crazy Walmart stories for several years, but ours is very organized. The employees guard the pallets and open them at the appropriate times. They have organized lines and hand out tickets for the "big" items like game consoles and TVs. If you don't have a ticket, you are out of luck. Dont' get me wrong, there are a bajillion people there, but no fights or anything like that. Now TRU is not a place I would go on BF EVER.

I used to love BF but now its so crazy busy its just not worth it, at least in our area. Last year I stopped about bought the newspaper on the way to Chicago on Thanksgiving day. I ended up ordering several gifts from Targets BF prices from my phone, scored dd a very nice camera for $100! I plan on doing that kind of shopping again.

I will have to break down and hit Bath and Body Works for myself though!

I wonder!!! If I or anyone bought say a x-box at full price on Wed ( before thanksgiving) andthen went during sale time would u get a price adjustment??

hmnn..... would be easier than fighting crowds and if only need 1 item?

Usually black friday specials are not adjustable. Meaning they won't honor an adjustment on a previously bought item.

It depends on the scenario. A lot of places won't markdown the systems, but rather offer it at full price with a bunch of "extras" (games, controllers, gift cards, etc).

If you find a place that's NOT Wal-mart or Sears, you can try taking the ad to Walmart or Sears *DURING the sale hours*!!! and asking them to match it. Depending on the time of day, those stores may be less hectic. *MAY*.

Example-- If TRU has the system you want on sale starting at 3am-5am, Walmart will usually match it at that time... at 2:59 or 5:01, they DEFINITELY WON'T. During the window, they may or may not try to pull the "if the other store has it in stock, and they're sold out by now, I bet" card. That just depends on how grumpy the cashiers/managers are that day.

If what you want is a new release that is available before BF, but potentially cheaper ON BF, you might consider buying it before BF, then trying for it cheap on BF... if you succeed, return the first one, if not, at least you're not stuck with the empty-shelf-blues.

I did this last year with the crayola glow dome (only a $5 difference, but hey, times 2, that's $10...) Also did this with the Target toy clearance. I bought everything I wanted, then just kept checking back... if I found it cheaper, I had the receipt in my wallet and just kept buying the cheaper one and returning it with the higher receipt-- all while the original purchase sat, wrapped, in the closet. Not something that was worth the extra gas, but I was there anyway, and it ended up saving me around $50 over the course of the sale.

I thought I would bump this to the top as there have been BF ads posted.
