Black and White Cookies

The only version I've had was a package of mini ones I found in the bakery at Walmart. I too was surprised to discover that they were cake-like and not like a shortbread. I didn't find them to be all that great, but then I'm not going to judge something based on a Walmart version of it.

OP here - thanks for all of the info on the "cookies". I wasn't thinking they were so "gross", just not what I was expecting. It sounds like a got a pretty good replication of a black and white. It sure was a pretty cookie! So tonight, my DS asked me where the really good cookies were. Guess I might have to use JessicaR's recipe to make some more. Thanks JessicaR!

I grew up loving them and miss them since I moved South. Entenmann's makes a cute mini one, tastes very good but not like the authentic ones.

I guess you guys have never seen black & white cookies. I've also heard them called "half moon" cookies. They look like this, NOT even remotely like an Oreo sandwich cookie.
