i noticed in my new b& h catalog they have tons of b&w film...remembering this was a topic a few days ago, any brands/kinds anyone considers really good? I think obilo mentioned a type but not sure what brand it would be

I used to use Verachrome Pan. Great film but not sold in the US anymore :confused3
Plus-X Pan or Tri-X are my choice now.

i love tri-x 400. it has a nice grain and tone, but it's getting harder to find. t-max 400 is kinda a replacement - it has similarities but not quite as nice (grain and pushability).

i also like ilford delta 400 - i'll use this if i can't find either of the first two.

avoid ilford xp2 and kodak bwcn/bw400cn as they are not tru b&w films. they are chromogenic c-41 films and don't produce results that are anywhere as nice as true b&w stock. and you won't be able to develop it at home.

here is a nice sample of tri-x 400 developed in d76. although it's not the greatest example, you can at least see the dynamic range and the tone. i also like using hc110 for developing but i need to focus more on the timing...

I hate to be critical, but I bet your DS would prefer that you were focusing on giving him a newer mower to use. Possibly it is the difference in markets, but that looks like a '70s model in U.S. terms. I am just kidding :goodvibes , I actually enjoy seeing the difference in consumer products from different countries. It can be amazing.

BTW... my DD (13) does not have any problems with your DS being the subject of many of your pics.

LOL - actually it's not our mower. it's one he borrowed from next door as he prefers that over our petrol weedwhacker. i've been putting off getting a mower. btw the one in the photo is not really that old, but it looks it being in b&w. btw everyone knows australia invented the lawnmower... right?

which one, the 4 legged kind aka sheep? ;) :rotfl2:

haven't decided if i want to develop at home yet so guess i should make sure i can find someone to do it if i don't want to...and my title was not an editorial comment on digital B&w...the blech /blach and white, just a typo:rotfl2:

I was flipping through the B&H catalog this weekend, too...(DH had to show me the canon camcorder on the back page...)

anyway, I was, of course, drawn to the pages with darkroom supplies, and was kind of missing those days...lol

I could take some med format pics with our rolleiflex or my holga...if I was so inclined/inspired to. I just have too many other things to do...one of these days I'm going to play with that rollei...
