BL Summer Challenge 2009

Another day down till WI, man these days are just flying by.

Holding steady +/- .2 from what I was at WI last week. I'm just waiting to get on the scale and see a new number.

Doing good this week. I don't think we have anything planned except for going out to eat this weekend. I'll just make sure all other meals are good - plus it depends on where we go.

The following week we take DD17 to Missouri to visit her #1 college choice - scary stuff. Got to stay strong and eat healthy while I'm there. I'm confident I can do it. I'll WI Thursday morning next week.

Saturday QOTD: What is the biggest obstacle to your weight loss and how will you address it?

That question is easy, like so many other, it is ME. But not really me, it's that compulsive thing inside me. It will not listen to me when I say no to something. I'm sure you know what I mean. What ever it is that makes us make those wrong choices, even though we know the choice is wrong.
Example...I have a love affair with peanut butter. I can and do eat it by the spoonfull. I can tell myself I will not have any, and before I know it, the spoon is in my mouth and I'm licking the last of the PB off. :scared1:
I am trying to address this, and I have to not listen to the devil on one sholder, but the good healthy angel on the other. LOL

Sunday QOTD: If you could have any role at WDW, what would it be?

I have never really given this any thought, but my DH has, he would want to be the guide that takes poeple fishing on the lagoon in front of MK. I guess I would like to be a guide that takes the celebs around the parks.

Sorry the QOTD is so late, I just got back into town after seeing RENT!

MONDAY QOTD: What is your favorite "bad food"? Do you stay away from it all together or do you find a way to work it in?

This ones easy too. Fried Chicken. More to the point... KFC fried chicken. I think I got this from my grandfather. When I would visit him we would get KFC to go and go down to the train freight depot and have our chicken and watch the trains.

Tuesday QOTD: What is your favorite non Disney vacation?

That would be our fishing trip to the eastern sierras. We go to June Lake loop and rent a cabin and fish and relax for a week in Oct. There are many lakes and creeks to fish in and the area is just beautiful.

Congrats tessiemez!! :cool1: :thumbsup2

Over 100 pounds gone! That is so cool that we could do that as a group in such a short period of time...less than a month, in fact! Way to go all you losers and all you out there that are trying to lose! Lets have another great week! I am worried my number might not be as good as I would like this week due to a certain thing many women experience, but then it should be great the following week!

Hope everyone is having a great op day! Don't forget to drink your water!

Sarah

:thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks, Tammy, and pardon me but I think you might have lost your moose . . .

Lisa, your post was really inspiring. It is so true, that when life is doling out CRAP that it is so easy to indulge in lots of self-destructive behavior (such as over-eating), but honestly... what does that really achieve??

Thanks, Pamela, your success has been very inspiring to me so I take that as a big compliment. :goodvibes I hope that your busy day gets better!

MelanieC - way to go on earning the T-shirt! :worship:I definitely would not have passed.

You are so right -- I don't think I could have done 3!

Anyone else anxious to hear from the weight keeper? I am hoping for good things! LuvBaloo....come out come out where ever you are! Sarah

From your lips to the weightkeepers ears! :earboy2:

My favorite bad food is actually a drink. I grew up drinking Mountain Dew and I'm SOOOOOOO addicted. I HATE diet and I think theres nothing better than a good cold one in a can. But alas, they are very bad for my weight loss, so I've started buying just the little mini cans and I don't have one every day. I will drink pop a little when we go out, but I usually order water and just sip on my daughter's. That way I haven't told myself NO and that is a big thing for me.

Karen, super job on the loss so far this challenge! :thumbsup2 I had a big addition to CocaCola for a long time. I had a 20 oz bottle every day, then I would switch to Diet Coke, which wasn't the same and if it was a bad day well, then I deserved another Coke, etc. I have one Diet Coke a day and then switch to water. I had a real Coke one day last week when I was sick and took about three sips. It just doesn't taste good anymore so you will overcome the Mtn Dew, it just takes time.

It will not listen to me when I say no to something.

Venetia, this is so true! And it sounds like something that may turn into another tag for you. ;) That is a sweet memory of watching the trains with your grandfather.

A great, big congratulations to tessiemez and all the other losers! :cheer2: Thanks, Shannon, for being the weightkeeper and for putting in the interesting statistics -- I'm so happy we hit the collective 100 pound mark already! :goodvibes

Onwards and downwards, losers!

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite "activity"?

I realized I haven't been answering my own QOTDs! :rotfl:

My biggest obstacle: Lack of planning. I have a bad habit of not journalling until the end of the day and then it's too late. I'm trying to start journalling before I eat and planning better.

Dream role: Character Performer. It's what I did for my last two CPs and if the cost of living in Orlando had been lower I would still be there. My goal is to relocate to Orlando so I can teach full time and perform part time. I particularly want to do Fantasmic!

My favorite "bad food" is probably anything with sugar. I'm trying to really limit it as I have to watch my carbs and I try to find low carb versions of things I like so I don't have to completely deprive myself.

Good Wednesday Morning here on the east coast. Yesterday was wild here on the jersey shore. ABout 8 AM it go so dark outside you could have sworn it was night. Lots of rain and lightening and thunder. Still cloudy this morning and only a slight chance of rain today. Rain while school is still in session does make it easier to teach. ONLY 6 more cafeteria duties to go.

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite "activity"?

I love needlework. I sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch, needlepoint and quilt. I also love to read and in the last year have gotten into crossword puzzles.

Have a great day everyone. I am off after school to see the foot doctor to see what is going to happen to me with my surgery scheduled for the 26th of this month.

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite "activity"?

My Favorite Activity is walking at the park and Listening to Ambient relaxing music. It calms me down after a stressful week at work

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite "activity"?

Well, unfortunately my favorite activities are not at all "active". I love to read and scrapbook. I also love to travel, but that doesn't happen nearly often enough.

I hope everyone is having a great week, preparing for a great weigh-in day.

Does anyone who has been doing WW or counting calories for many months still get AMAZED at how high in calories some "normal" foods are?? I made a beef roast in the crockpot last night. I don't make this often, as DS is allergic to beef, but I had it and it needed to be used. Well, right before dinner I got out my WW book to calculate how much of the roast I could eat. I was AMAZED to see that a mere 2 oz of this stupid roast was going to cost me 5 points!! Now I see another reason we don't eat this very often! I ate my 2 oz, but I can tell you that I was still hungry after dinner. I'm sure that often in the past I have probably eaten 15 points worth of that stuff without even realizing how many calories I was consuming. I will NOT be buying beef roast of any sort any time soon. I do buy ground beef, but I drain it and rinse it and mix it with rehydrated TVP, so that really counts down on the points per serving. And it makes me realize why I gained so much weight after my Christmas rib roast!!

Anyhow... just rambling. Today is going to be a low point day, so no roast leftovers for lunch (the roast was actually not great, a bit dry, so its not like I was craving it).

Anyone else not like that Greek yogurt that people seem to be raving about? I bought a few of them (Chobani and Stonyfield Farms) and DD and I both tried them. DD wouldn't even eat it. I didn't love it, but I need to use them up! I had a Chobani non-fat vanilla for breakfast and it was actually icky. Not sweet enough and way too thick (although I guess that is how Greek yogurt is supposed to be). If I wasn't already at school I wouldn't have eaten it, but it was all I brought so I was stuck with it. SO not worth the 2 points it cost me!

Okay.... so I am SO bored with my current workout DVDs. Any suggestions? I had to stop doing JM 30 day Shred because it was killing my knees. I have been doing the Biggest Loser Cardiomax, but I am getting bored. I also bought the Dancing With The Stars Latin Cardio Dance, but I am too uncoordinated and it is rather boring. I created my own Powerstep program using my Wii and at least I can watch a tv show while I do it, but again... BORING! I use my treadmill when I can, but I can't usually do it in the early am because it is in my bedroom and I don't want to wake anyone. Any ideas??.......................P

hi gang

QOTD -- my favorite activity is several ::yes:: scrapbooking, reading, baking, putzing in my yard, and hanging out with my DDs

that is so awesome that the group has lost 100 lbs!!! :rockband:

pjlla -- wonder if you have FitTv? or exercise on demand? does your library have any workout DVDs to try? most of my workout DVDs are lower-intensity than you describe, sry.

have a FANTASTIC day OP!!

I don't think that we have FitTv available (we have DISH Network satellite tv) or any exercise on demand, but I will look into it. Our library doesn't have any exercise DVDs (very small town). But thanks for the ideas!.........P

Good morning biggest losers! Sounds like you're all having a good week. I've been busy, and can't believe I haven't posted since saturday. We had a really nice weekend, my brother came from western mass, so the whole family was here, and we had a bbq at my mom and sisters house, and my mom sat out in the yard with us for a good long time, and enjoyed watching the grand kids playing, and it was really nice. I also worked on my nephews graduation scrapbook for a while, and then enjoyed a few glasses of wine. We're taking her to the doctors this morning, and I'm really nervous. My mom's doing ok, and has got such a positive attitude, and I'm sure she's in denial, but I don't want her to lose that fight.
As far as eating goes, I'm middle of the road, and haven't gained any more this week, and was down a pound today. Still getting up and doing my exercise most mornings, so that helps.
I've been really sick but am feeling better. You know that you are bad off when you are to sick to DIS. :lmao: Baring a miracle of modern medicine, my DL trip on Wednesday is off and I will have to reschedule it. Boo! Hoo! :sad1:

I lost 3 lbs. last week so I was very happy with my results. I was doing great with my journaling, my activity and flex points and totally in the groove with WW before I got sick. If there is anything good about this illness it is that you are not hungry so I hope I can keep my loss because I cannot walk. I'm down 6.5 since this challenge started and have been meeting my goal of a loss every week so am happy. I just have to stay on track and get to feeling better.

Oh, I did get my 10 pound ribbon back so that is cause for celebrating!
Sorry about your trip, lisa, and congrats on your loss. You must have been feeling pretty lousy not to be able to dis! HOpe you are feeling better now, and that ribbon looks great in your siggie.

Sunday QOTD: If you could have any role at WDW, what would it be?
I would like to work in 50s prime time. I tend to joke around and tease people, and we had so much fun when we were there, I think it would be fun to make people laugh.

I was to busy this past week to even think about anything. My sister in law who was a close friend was found dead on Tuesday. :confused:It has been a week of chaos. I gained 1.2 lbs.
:grouphug:I am so sorry for you and your families loss.

MONDAY QOTD: What is your favorite "bad food"? Do you stay away from it all together or do you find a way to work it in?
Chocolate. I like the ww fudge bars, and will sometimes buy the ww chocolate bars that are too expensive, but because they are I tend to have only one. Some times at the mall, I'll buy just one Lindt chocolate ball.
Tuesday QOTD: What is your favorite non Disney vacation?
I love going to the beach. We go to maine a lot, and usually camp at old orchard beach, but I enjoy the beach more if we have a cabin or hotel. My sisters camp is on a lake in maine, and we've rented a cabin across the street, and it's so nice to just walk to the beach.

Is there such a thing? Hmmmmm, ok, I got one. I loved the trip I took to Cabo when my son was 7 months old. We stayed in these beautiful condos right on the beach with a view of the famous arch. We could walk down the beach to a restaurant with tables in the sand and have breakfast. The pool had a swim up bar. It was great! I'd love to try Europe sometime though, or Bora Bora, or Australia. Ah dreams

Sarah
We went to cabo when my son was 4 and were also right across from the arch but at an angle where you couldn't see the hole. We never left our resort, it was beautiful. Though I did walk down the beach to buy souvenirs cheap. It is beautiful there.

Hello again, losers! I am catching up on my emails and found this interesting quote from Elvis Presley in a SparkPeople email: "When things go wrong, don't go with them." Here is a excerpt from the email:

Does it ever feel like trouble follows you around and won’t cut you any slack? Sometimes it feels like you can’t buy a break and everything you try just makes things worse. Who could blame you for feeling sorry for yourself or not forgive a little self-destructive behavior? Bad idea. The new way to spend down times is to lift yourself up and operate at a higher level. Remember that what happens to you is not who you are. It’s history. It’s past. Your true self takes that history and decides how to make the best possible future out of it. You have the power to keep your attitude and values from driving into the ditch along with the events in your life. From defeat, you can still emerge victorious.

Here is the link, if you are interested, http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/quotes_translation.asp?id=260

I thought that this is a good quote for us now as we are past the first few exciting weeks of our challenge and still have a long ways to go on our journey. Our healthy new habits may not be as established as we would like and heck, it's summer, we want to take off too! We are all going to have days that are better than others. Don't let a bad day, or a series of bad days, negate all your hard work and push you off the road to success.

Have a great day, losers!
Thanks for the link. That is so positive.

I like to scrapbook, and play board games and cards with my son. Love to eat too, but that's why I'm here.

I like the leslie sansone walk away the pounds dvds, but they aren't as high impact as the shred.
I also find it amazing how many calories there are in foods, when I go out to eat, and try to plan, it's just crazy sometimes. The beef can be really high, I guess it depends on the cut. We do steak on the grill usually, and I figure lots of the fat is burned off, at least I hope so.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning, losers!

Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite "activity"?

Well, I have would have to say reading, playing in the yard, and spending time with my family.

I am off after school to see the foot doctor to see what is going to happen to me with my surgery scheduled for the 26th of this month.

donac, here is some pixiedust: for you for your appointment today. I hope the doctor can help you get over this without ruining your summer.

Does anyone who has been doing WW or counting calories for many months still get AMAZED at how high in calories some "normal" foods are??

I am! I was holding up a pack of Arby's Horseysauce and telling DH this packet is 3 points -- that more than 10% of my points for the whole day! He made a face and decided not to eat it. :rotfl: The "healthy" chicken salad sandwich I like at Arby's -- 18 points! That is why I like WW, I think that it helps you make heathier choices as well as help keep track of just input.

Anyone else not like that Greek yogurt that people seem to be raving about? I bought a few of them (Chobani and Stonyfield Farms) and DD and I both tried them.

I am not a big fan of it either but I might try in a smoothie sometime.

Can you make yourself like a circuit of workouts? Like Cardiomax one day, step another, etc.? Or even walk or bike outside one day a week? You might be able to work some interval type changes in the DVDs or Wii. Like step fast for two minutes then back to normal for two. Can you get a day pass for a local gym? We just had a new Kroc Community Center open and a day pass is $8 a day. You can work in the fitness center, swim, use the walking track. Maybe a spinning class once a week?

You've done so well with your exercise, Pamela, and it's really paid off for you. Like eating right, it will just take some time to figure out what works for you. Maybe you need some snappy Disney music to work out with?

Sorry about your trip, lisa, and congrats on your loss. You must have been feeling pretty lousy not to be able to dis! HOpe you are feeling better now, and that ribbon looks great in your siggie.

Thanks! I am just a little :sad1: this morning since we would have been on the plane by now but luckily DL will be there for us in August.

Have a great OP day, losers!

I do belong to the YMCA, but it is 30 minutes away. I go regularly during winter swim season, since DD is on the swim team, but I don't do that drive if I don't have to any other time. I can walk outside when/if I want, since we live in a great neighborhood for that, but I find it very boring. I think that I would enjoy some sort of dance aerobics or step aerobics class, but I haven't found a DVD like that. I agree that some Disney music in the background would definitely help. A few times when I was walking during a break at work I borrowed DS's MP3 player and he has great Disney tunes on it!

Again, I am so sorry about missing your trip! I would be heartbroken, but your attitude sounds good and healthy.......................P

I used to do Power 90. That is a pretty good work out but not dance like at all. And it alternates DVD's so every other day you are doing cardio and the opposite days you do a weight work out with hand weights or a band. Good luck finding something you enjoy.

As for the QOTD...my favorite activity would be either reading or watching tv, however, as far as favorite "Active" activity, it would probably be roller skating. I really enjoy it but don't get to go very often. I am about 30 minutes away from a rink and don't live in a neighborhood that would work for skating.

Have a great op day.

Can you tell me more about OOB? DS and I are going there for our Mother/Son weekend this summer. We may camp if we can find a good place. But I am concerned about finding parking near the beach during the day. It may be easier to just stay in a hotel right along the beach. I don't know much about the area. We made a quick stop one day during this past April vacation to just walk the beach while we were in Maine with DH on a business trip (he works up there frequently) and DS saw all of the rides and arcades and went NUTS!! So it seemed like a great place to spend a few days. Got any great ideas or suggestions (camp grounds, restaurants, etc)? Guess I should have PM'd you... sorry to everyone for hijacking a bit here!!......................P

Wed QOTD: favourite activity

For an active activity, I do enjoy going to the pool with my DD's. spending 3 hours in the pool Sat morning was good for all of us. Now their swim lessons are over, so I'll have to try and still go do it sometimes. But it will be nice to have Sat mornings back.

Count me in, for being amazed at how much some foods are worth in WW. DH and I used to get Quizno's subs sometimes, and I was thinking its better than McD, but the sub I liked would be 40 pts :scared1: and I could eat at McD for less than half of those points.:scared1:
