bizarre postcard tale

After hearing about the famous Disney resort code postcards that people seem to randomly receive in the mail, I'm sure most of you can imagine how excited I was to find one in my mailbox this week. The rate was $74 for moderates and was good from 4/27-7/3/03. The timing was perfect since my mom and I will be staying at POR May 14-20. This would save us $20 a night.

However, after studying the postcard more thoroughly, I realized that it had my sister's name on it but my address. I live in Texas, and she lives in Oklahoma. I e-mailed Merrie, my Dreams Unlimited representative, with the exciting news. I knew there was a chance that I couldn't use it because of the name, but thought I'd let her try anyway. She called Disney, and of course the answer was negative. She told me to let her know if for some strange reason I received a postcard with my name on it.

My mom and I were disappointed. However, the next morning my mom called to tell me that she had discovered the exact same postcard in her mail, only it had MY name on it. Bizarre, but exciting nonetheless.

I hastily e-mailed Merrie. Although we were pleased that we'd be able to "save" an extra $10 each per day, my mom and I were already thinking of ways to spend it (another tour? a limo? even more souvenirs?).

I anxiously awaited Merrie's e-mail. When she finally wrote, she was sad to report that the rate was not available for our dates. She even called Disney again later to try another CM. But alas, this morning came her response that there is no room at the inn, at least not at that rate for any of our nights. Apparently, because of the French Quarter closure, POR is going to be packed.

By the way, we love POR and decided not to try to make a lateral move. We considered AKL and WL, but they are still more than we want to spend. I guess we'll just keep hoping that AP rates come out, but won't hold our breath that there will be any rooms available at that rate, either. I am not sad, though. I know how blessed I am to be able to go to Disneyworld yet again!

What a refreshing attitude!:D

Still, seems like they could plan a little better regarding offering discounts. You'd think they would have realized that in closing the POFQ that POR would get a little full. Sometimes I wonder if one hand knows what the other one is doing!

We're waiting on AP's to see if they're better than what we have now, but like you I'm grateful that we get to go at all. Sometimes you just have to look on the bright side of things!

Did you ever figure out the reason for the misaddressed postcard (or misnamed)? We also have gotten strange postcards. Although we've been to WDW close to 20 times, we've never gotten a postcard sent to our home. However, 8 years ago, DH surprised me with my first solo trip, "Mom's weekend". Because it was a surprise for me, he had everything sent to his work address. Since then I've gotten several postcards, addressed to me, at his work! But unfortunately, nothing at home.

Last June my sister and her kids went with me and my mom to WDW. Perhaps I made the reservation using my address and they have that as my sister's address. My mom and I have been several times, so maybe we've used her address to make the reservation before, too, and that's why my name was associated with her address. The really weird thing was that both postcards came on the same day. To confuse things more, I usually go by my middle name, but sometimes my first. Come to think about it, I have no idea how many different names and addresses I have on file with Disney. It's not on purpose; it's just happened that way with all the Disney websites/trips/videos/stuff I've signed up for.

I got one too. It was misaddressed. It had my mother's name, but my address. Weird.

Mine was the same, best friends name, my address. She has been to WDW with us twice. Both times the reservation was under my name.

If I were you I'd call CRO/WDWTC and have them double check all your info in the computer. I called one day last week, because I hadn't gotten a postcard in a long time, and they had all the wrong info.
