Bitten by bug while at Disney, will it ever go away?

It's amazing that Disney does this to people. Our family went for our 1st trip last Sept and I honestly didn't know what to expect. I didn't think I would get sucked in but I did! I loved it - it was the best trip of our lives and I would go back every year if I could.

My DH didn't think he would be that into it but he did love it too but he claims that there are too many other places to vacation to go there every year. He thinks it would take the magic away to go all the time which I can kind of understand why he thinks that way but I would still go there over somewhere else!

With that said, we are going on vacation with my family this May to the beach in NC (we live in Oh) and I am trying to talk DH into driving down to Disney for a few days since we'll be halfway there. He hasn't said yes or no yet so we'll see!! I'm going to keep working on him! LOL

You all are serious?!! It gets worse?!! I'm done for. :sad2:

I've been thinking the past few days that I should set up my own secret savings account towards another trip and not tell anyone, including DH about it. Maybe if I had the money set aside, I could talk DH into going again. :lovestruc

I honestly thought that I'd be over my "need" to go to Disney once me made the trip and be happy to go somewhere else. I didn't realize what a hold that place would have on me once we left. :rotfl:

DD12 told me again last night that she thinks about Disney constantly. I think I inadvertantly created a monster. :lmao:

It's incurable. There are also several interesting side effects, including posting at least once a day on the Disboards, so you can watch the ticker for your next trip move closer! :rotfl:

Other side effects may include talking to your co-workers daily about how you can't wait until your next trip, watching Youtube videos of WDW rides and attractions, Googling photos of your resort, even though you already have been there and know what it looks like, and checking out the Orlando weather report daily.

Should you find yourself posting on the Disboards for sessions lasting more than four hours, please seek emergency treatment immediately.

My whole family contracted the bug on our first trip last May. I never understood all the people on the DIS boards who took not just yearly trips but muliple trips in a year! I understood from the moment that Wishes started and I saw it grab my DH. We were both lost from that moment :goodvibes We are going again in May. (I'm so excited I have to keep saying it to anybody that will listen) I even caught myself pricing out a trip at Christmas! DH had to, regretfully, rein me in - we'll see;)

We are even talking about buying property in Florida at some point for when we semi retire (mostly because we are so tired of winter).

We are concerned though and would like to ask those people that live close to WDW 'do you eventually lose interest in going to disney and how often do you actually go?'

When we went in August, it was the first trip for our DD13, and DS4. DW and I had been there back in 1988 (separately). I told everyone up front before we went that it would likely be a one time deal. By the end of our seven day stay, the kids had me pretty much convinced to take them back again this summer (admittedly, it didn't take much convincing :rotfl: )

Now, I'm in the middle of planning our trip for this summer. We'll be there 13 nights this time, with 10 days in the parks. I've been talking about Disney pretty much non stop since our last trip. We listen to Disney music when we go out in the van. We watch Disney movies at home all the time. My computer has a pair of 22" wide screen monitors, displaying a wall paper that I made from Disney pictures.

I'm on the DIS boards pretty much daily. I'm always watching for new information, deals, tips. I have a Disney Visa that I pay for EVERYTHING with, just to earn those reward dollars (and it looks like I'll have $200 to spend this summer).

In short, I am 100% addicted, have NO interest in kicking the addiction, and it seems to only get worse with time.

I too am a husband who, along with my wife and 8yo daughter, is hopelessly addicted to Disney, and no, the feeling never goes away. The more time that goes by without being there, the more you want to be there. You will at times ache to be there. You will get feelings of euphoria just imagining your self there. We go 3 to 4 times a year minimum and it's never enough. We thought for a while there was something terribly wrong with all of us. We looked for Disney in some way in everything we did. My daughter was spotting hidden Mickeys everywhere. We we're having Disney movie nights every week. We we're playing Disney board games, surrounding ourselves with Disney merchandise. We even painted a Disney mural on the wall in our office. All of this was just to feel that we were still connected in some way to the "magic". Sounds crazy, huh? I know right now you're thinking, "this guy and his whole psychotic family is in need of professional help in the form of shock therapy". Just wait, you'll see exactly what I mean as time goes by. But we finally realized we never want this feeling to change. That's the part that the people who don't see in Disney what we see, don't understand. We like being addicted to it, and it's OK. If the day ever comes that myself, my wife or my daughter don't want to go to Disney, that might be one of the saddest days of my life.

No it wont :lmao:

We cannot wait to go to WDW, we just love it up there!....just 5 more hours and I am on the road back to the Poly!

Been bitten and keep scratching that itch every day with the DIS boards until my countdown ticker says we can go again!:rotfl:

I think for me because I never went as a kid, and didn't go until 2000 that I feel like I have to make up for lost time and go as much as I can. To say I've now become a Disney-addict is an understatement.

Thank God for the internet where we can share our love of the mouse with others!

Over 20 trips later, and no, I can honestly say it never goes away. But its a wonderful disease to be afflicted with!

It can be very contagious, so there is hope for your husband yet!

My 12 year old dd, says Disney is the first thing she thinks of each morning. Most mornings will find her and me watching a planning video, one of our trip videos or figuring out how many days until our next trip (100 as of today I might add ;) ). While she gets ready for school, she and I will chat about trip plans and memories. She already talks about how fun it will be someday when she's a mom and we go with her kids. I have raised that one right.

My 14 year old son also loves it, he doens't admit it quite as much as he used to but the kid still wears his big Goofy hat to Chef Mickey's and still has an old Disney piggy bank on his dresser to save change for our trips. So even my ultra cool teen has maintained his Disney roots!

Disney finds its way into our entire life. We might be talking about something totally unrelated and suddenly one of us will say something like "Just think, right now some lucky family is getting on Splash Mountain" or "I wish I was eating at Chef Mickey's right now".

People thing we're crazy but we think we're just fine.

Welcome to the club. You are among friends!:goodvibes

Most mornings will find her and me watching a planning video,

Oh, you gave me a wonderful idea! DH wants me to transfer the video he took on our trip onto DVD. I did that, but about 20 minutes into it it quit working for some reason. (It was the first camcorder video I burned directly from a harddrive, so I am still learning.) He asked me a couple of days ago if I tried burning it again and I haven't had a chance. (Tells me that Disney must also be on his mind. :rotfl2: ) I need to get that done so that he and the kids can watch it. Maybe he'll start itching too. :rotfl: :wizard:

Count me in on the addicted husband and dad list, there was no need to bring me around, I was addicted after our first onsite stay and it's only gotten worse with time. This is not a bad thing!

I got bitten on July 4, 1978. I suffered with the addiction for about seven years, and the only time I felt better was when I was at WDW:rotfl2:. I was in recovery until 2001, and then I relapsed. Now that I'm older, my resistance is much lower, and I have to "take the cure" at least twice a year. I do find that the "itch" can be relieved occasionally by taking a DCL cruise;).

It appears to be highly transmittable too. My DS seems to have it, and I noticed the other day that my older DGD is starting to show some symptoms. I haven't seen any signs in my newborn twin grandkids, but I'm afraid they'll be exposed to it in December, 2010, and will endure the addiction for the rest of their lives too!

If I have to suffer from some affliction as I age, this is surely the one to have!

Oh yeah, when he sees those memories live and in action, it'll melt his heart! I can't tell you how many times we have watched old trip DVD's and somehow ended up planning another trip.

You also need to get AP's next time. Because once you start getting your money's worth out of those, its all a blur!:rotfl:

For my DH and myself it just kept getting worse (and by worse I mean, we loved every second of the planning and vacationing). I had only been to WDW one time as a child, my husband had only been here once as a teenager. We booked our October 2000 honeymoon at the Grand Floridian and that was the beginning of the end! We purchased DVC in 2000 (BWV), added on more points in 2001 (HHI), and then in 2002 we moved from our home in NJ to Disney's then-owned town of Celebration (Disney sold it in 2004). In 2007 we added on more points at SSR, and yes, in 2008 some more DVC points at Bay Lake Tower (couldn't resist). It is a very very infectious, contageous and expensive disease...of which, there is no cure. Frequent trips to WDW tend to be the only real relief from the heart aching symptoms.

I heard when you bitten by a bug, the more you scratch it the worst it gets. Well I'm scratching my itch April 26 - May 3 ...

This is exactly why I think people join DVC. They want to know that they own a part of the magic. That there is a little piece of Disney just waiting for them to come back! It is infectious!

I love it!

We are surprising the kids with a trip to the Poly in August and I get warm feeling just picturing their faces that morning when i ask them what they want to do today!!!!

We took a "once in a lifetime":lmao: trip in 1988, took another "let's just take mom and dad once" trip in 1991, did our 30th anniversary there in 1999, and then went crazy--bought DVC and have never looked back!

Just added on more points at the BLT and have three:dance3: trips planned for this year--May at the BWV with my mom, sister, her daughter and grandson, September just us, and December with one son, daughter in law, and two grandkids.

We got to Disney WAY more now than when we had young kids--and with almost 50 years left on our our BLT contract--we'll be toddling around Disney as long as we possibly can!:yay:

I have it so bad that I cried as we were checking out of AKL and I cry on every Disney commercial when they open the envelope and the balloon pops out! :sad1: I'm already dreaming of when we can go back...I think I'm going to do a surprise Christmas present. My DH and DS think that I have a problem!!! My biggest peave is when my mom says, "You're not planning another trip are you?" "You need to do a REAL vacation this time." WHAT NERVE!!!! :rolleyes1

After our very first trip, my sister and used to drop action figures to the bottom of our pool and play Typhoon Lagoon's Shark Reef almost every day. We'd put on our swim masks and swim over top of them to pretend like we were back in Disney. ;) It was after my first trip when I was 11 that I swore, once I made my own money, I'd be back all the time. I can certainly say I've lived up to that promise!!! :)
