I am trying to plan our first full day in Florida! I wanted to know, if anyone has stopped on IDrive with Thomsons/First Choice, do we have a welcome meeting the day after we arrive?

Sounds like a bit of a stupid question, sorry! :)

I'm sure ours was on the 2nd day but it was a few years back....
With all the tips and advice on here, I gave it a miss.

can't answer that question but do you really want to go? We used to go to the VH's ones but its just a big SELL SELL SELL and if you have done your planning before hand hopefully you should be ready to just go for it and not waste valuable time sitting there. VH's even had a time share bloke come and give us a talk!!!!!!!! Don't be inticed in by the free welcome drinks/breakfast either..Thats just my opinion on these welcome meets, its just a waste of your park time!:)

We were told about the welcome meeting when we picked up our transfer vouchers at the airport. It was somewhere near Universal/IOA and they said they would drop you off there afterwards. We didn't bother with it, we already had tickets, didn't plan on booking any extras, knew what we needed to know so it would have been a waste of time and as Vanda says, they just try to sell you things.

Our was our second day and we were only there for a week so didn't bother!

Excellent! Thanks everyone!! I don't really want to go as I have been doing my research and we already have our tickets for everything! :)

I think my boyfriend wants to go but I will swiftly be changing his opinion!

I remember when we went with TCD in 2006, they had staff encouraging people into the welcome centre at SFB on arrival, almost everybody was heading in there, when we walked past one of the staff ladies asked as why we weren't heading in, after an nine hour flight I was a little grumpier than i would have been and just blurted out "i've got everything, and i know more about florida and what its got to offer than you do!"

Walked on into the car hire area, no queue since everyone was in the welcome centre!

Went back to apologise though (after i got the car), i felt bad for saying it the way it sounded!!! :thumbsup2

Perhaps, but at least that might have been the only "honest" thing that had been said in or around that meeting that day...

Those travel companies only see us as cows ready for the milking ... well we're not.
They may fool first timers, but thank god for the DIS :)

You don't have to go to the welcome meeting. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than waste half a day like that :)

Enjoy your planning!!

We went to the meeting the 2nd time we went and it was just selling you things you had tbh, Last time we got our thomson pack and the meeting was not planed and was told we was going to get a call at out hotel (we never did) but we would not have gone anyway as we know what we want to go and see and have out tiks ready

If you know what you want to go and see then don't go!.. but if you want to go to small things or find new places to goto the go to your meeting.

The best thing we got from the meeting was we was given the option to be droped off back at out hotel or to the FL mall (look out for the Xmas shop if going Mid SEP to DEC) Very nice we spend like 2 hours looking about and its only small but costs a bit to buy any thing in the place

I think I will probably know a lot about it anyway as I have been researching everything :rotfl:

I think we shall give it a miss
