Bit more grown-up dining

Hey I'm off with two friends to WDW next February. One of them really wants to do Cinderella's Castle for dinner, so have booked that as a surprise for her. The other one is not too thrilled about this but as I'm paying for it she'll just have to grin and bear it.

Anyway onto my question anyone got any suggestions for a restaurant for the picky one? She's not the biggest Disney fan in the world but I'll be changing all that, she'll see. She's a big Sci-Fi gal so I was thinking the Sci-Fi Diner. Anyone got any thoughts on something a bit more grown up for her? I want to give them both something special this trip.

Anytime I have ever eaten dinner in the castle there were quite a few tables with all adults (mine included) I think your friend will be surprised.
As to suggestions it depends on what you want to spend. What about one of Epcots restraurants? Kona in the Poly has great food & service. What about Boma, it can be noisy because of being buffet, but it's fun and the food here is great. (even for the picky eaters)
These are just a few, but I'm sure you'll get a lot of good suggestions from others here.

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Kona at the Poly, Boma at AKL, LaCellier at EPCOT. Depending on what you want to spend, there are many great signature dining spots like Jiko, California Grill and Narcoossee's. And of course you can go to Downtown Disney and try Raglan Road or Wolfgang Pucks. But remember that you will still be at Disney, so there will most likely be lots of kids at whatever places you choose. Have a great time!

And by the way....I have not really heard many good things about the Sci-Fi Diner. We have never been, so I can't tell you first hand....but I've read that the food is really bad, but the theme is really good and the service was so-so. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Citricos is great. Not usually a lot of kids and not a goofy in sight. Very pretty and good food! The wine pairings are also great!

I'm not a Sci-Fi Diner fan at all. For a "grown-up" experience, maybe the Coral Reef, Le Cellier, or Chefs de France in EPCOT. Outside the parks, you could try Boma or Jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Since you mentioned Sci Fi Dine-In I am assuming there's a time in your itinerary when you'll be at the Studios and you're looking to dine then?

At the Studios, the best pick is the Brown Derby. Go for lunch, much cheaper, but still nice.

If you must do the Sci Fi, and I almost can't recommend it at all anymore, the food and service has got so bad, please go only at lunch, and don't get anything but burgers and milkshakes. Everything else is BAD. Not just overpriced, which it is, but also BAD.

Some great meals can be found at:
Victoria and Alberts (however, this would be about $150/$160 a person when you include tax & tip)
California Grill (around $60 a person)
Citricos (also around $60)
Le Cellier (around $40)
Teppan Edo (around $40)
Coral Reef at lunch is a good choice also (around $30)
Brown Derby for lunch (around $20/$30 depending on what you get)
Yachtsman Steakhouse (around $50/$60)

The Plaza in the MK is a good sandwich spot or go over to Grand Floridian Cafe

You might also want to think about going to the Grand Floridian Tea...its a nice experience.

Artist Point? I'm surprised. It's very good. If you really want to splurge and need help in converting your non Disney friend there is a dinner with an Imagineer at Artist Point. There is also a lunch with an Imagineer at the Brown Derby.

A couple of things to keep in mind about Sci-Fi are 1) that the cars usually hold two people in a seat, which may not work for three people dining, you can possibly ask for a table on the side and 2) stick to the basic foods burgers ribs, etc.

I'm going to have to defend the Sci Fi as a dinner choice (although lunch is better). If your friend likes Sci-Fi, she'll love the diner. Food isn't that great but it's so much fun. If your friend isn't into dining at the castle, Sci-Fi jsut might be her thing. I guess I have a hard time understanding why adults feel the need to be "adult" at Disney World. My husband and I go there so we can act like kids. Thanksgiving dinner? Beirgarten so we can have some beers and sing off tune as loud as we can.

Artist Point @ Wilderness Lodge is grown up dining. We ate there last year for our anniversary and it was very good and great service. We would go back again this year except we want to try some new places.

If she is into Sci-Fi then my guess would be to take her there. I have never eaten there so I can't comment. I am not into Sci-Fi.

There are lots of neat places to eat. Who cares about acting like an adult? Disney is the place for the kid in your heart to come out and play!!!!! Have fun!

I love Narcoossees at the Grand Floridian. One of my all-time favorite restaurants- ever.
