Bit annoyed. Work at AKL

Hi Nichole,
I get it, I recently found out the renovations are not finished where we are staying next week & I was worried as well. I had booked our trip knowing they were renovating the BoardWalk villas and thought they would be done by the late spring completion date. I agree when you spend so much for a vacation all you want it for everything to go well. I would just be sure to call Disney before you check in and ask them to note that you want a room away from where they are working, and also request it again when you check in. With a soft goods renovation the only noise you might hear is hammering with the carpet replacement, but usually they work from 9 - 5 or 9 - 4, typically those are times a lot of people are out of their rooms or getting ready for dinner, it might not impact your stay at all. A Savanah View is amazing, we stayed at Kidani 4 years ago and loved it. I agree that the construction going on at the Poly when you were there was a much bigger magnitude. I would also go on tripadvisor for the building you are staying at (not sure if its Kidani or Jambo) and read the recent reviews to see if people are commenting on the renovations and if it impacted their stay at all
Wishing you a great trip and hope all goes well,
Marina :cutie:
Thanks so much!! I may call to be sure and just double check everything. I'm really excited about staying there and seeing my kids faces!!!

I wouldn't be too worried because it sounds like they are removing a floor at a time to do work. However, if you are really concerned you can call Disney and see if that category is available over at Jambo House and if they would move you as a courtesy since you don't remember the notice being there when you booked.

Yes, this is an option. However, a 1br is the only room category I'd rather be at Kidani than Jambo. Moving to Jambo to a 1br would result in a loss of the 2nd bathroom, and some square footage.

They don't book rooms that aren't goin to be available. Say there are 1,000 rooms, and they expect to have 100 rooms unavailable at a time. They will only accept reservations for 900 rooms.

I doubt they are removing a floor at a time. That would be a whole lot of villas. More likely a floor in a bead at KV. So a cluster of rooms at a time.

Disney is open 365 days a year. They never close parks or rides for rehabs. People have to understand in order to maintain the quality we all love they have to do constant updates. We were at Boardwalk Villas over spring break 2016 (peak week) and they were doing a extensive whole room rehab. They closed a floor at ta time and it was barely noticably and it has a huge rehab. Disney does a great job of "hiding" the work and worker.

If anyone is very upset about the rehab they have two options ;
1. Cancel
2. Switch hotels

I booked Kidani village in Nov. 2016 and I know 100% it was posted and announced. Maybe the original poster just missed it when they booked.

Well I live in Northern Virginia where construction is everywhere and when you're paying $8000 to stay at a resort I'd hope not to see or hear construction. No it would not ruin my trip but I did not know the extent of the work that's why I asked.

I think that you are worried about something that will be minimally annoying, but if you think that this will be an issue, it may be a good idea to change resorts. I know I am no fan of construction and therefore I do nto book a resort that is undergoing a refurb. I will warn you that you may be inconvenienced in some way during yourr trip. Slower seasons are well known to have attractions down. It's the tradeoff of reduced rates.

Thanks all for the info. I feel better knowing a bit more. I was worried at first bc I didn't know details.

I'm frazzled now bc of how I am being spoken to. Not sure why I'm not allowed to be concerned about sonthing. I was simply getting info.

People are not trying to be rude but they are trying to help you to understand that if you were not given the warning at booking, you have it now. You are not going to get a specific room, and circumstances may occur that yip do nto get the category. It happens. Rarely, but know that there is always a chance.

They are doing half a floor at a time. Starting with the highest and furthest out. I met with some people today who were not bothered by the construction at all with it right on top of them. We stayed at Boardwalk CL right over where seashore sweets use to be. It didn't really bother us much. They work from 9-5ish. It's only a big deal if you make it one.

And also.....just about every Deluxe is under refurb right now until 2017.

i get your concern. these are expensive holidays and not all visitors come to stay on property on a regular basis. that is a big deal. we specifically didn't book the poly in 2014 due to big reno plans during our trip. when we went to ohana on that trip, you could see areas boarded off and lots of evidence of the reno.

when we planned yacht club for this december, we knew that a refurb is planned but was described as room reno so shouldn't see any restaurants, pools, leisure areas, etc will be affected so we went ahead and booked it.

hate to sound harsh, but you only can make the best of it at this point.
if it bothers you that much, switch to another resort.

it's not like you are at the resort all day: only there to sleep and off day(s).

Resort time varies for most guests. We spend a lot of time at our resort, so the choice is an important decision for us. In this case, with the refurb being soft goods, I probably would nto make a change, but if it was construction of any kind, I would move. We found out the hard way that we are impacted by even what seemed would be a minimal annoyance in regards to construction, so no more for us.

If the OP feels that this will impact her family, they need to move to another resort.

i put "off day(s)" mainly because I knew it varies for every family. I agree with you too, if it was minor I would stay; on the other hand if it would make excessive noise and would be a bother for us I would move.

It sure does. We spend a great deal of time at the resort, so construction is an issue. My concern for the OP is that she has invested a huge deal of her ideal trip idea in her resort. Even a slight impact may be more than she is willing to accept, and when I consider that she is already annoyed because she was not warned upon booking, (to be fair, some of us book well in advance of these notices, so it happens to a lot of people), included her entire trip budget into what she told us initially was resort costs, and is upset that people have told her the warning has been up for quite some time, I have to wonder if she has predestined this resort to fail.

I stayed at the Beach Club when Hurricane Hannah was down for refurb. Never thought it would be a problem, but for us, the impact on the staff seemed to affect us. You just never know. Honestly, if I was the OP I would consider moving.

It pretty much boils down to that no one can promise the OP that she won't see or hear any construction. And if that is a deal breaker, she needs to switch resorts.
