Bistro de Paris

We just got the 'Unofficial Disney Guide' and it raves about Bistro de Paris. I found the menu on allears but I can't find it listed on the DDP restaurants. Is it on the DDP? I thought all the restaurants in the parks were DDP; which restaurants are not? TIA

It's not on the DDP. I'd be interested in knowing the backstory, but I'm guessing the "chefs" from downstairs wanted to have an Epcot restaurant that fits the caliber of a signature restaurant, but doesn't have to be on the DDP.

It's the best of any of the theme park restaurants (actually, I'd put it and Hollywood Brown Derby - when their mojo's working - on the same level.) Bistro is special.

If it's any consolation, V & A, which is the gold dining standard at WDW, certainly isn't on the DDP. But there are plenty of other really good places - California Grill, Narcoosee's, Jiko, Citricos, etc. - that are indeed on the plan. Options abound!

1) Correct.
2) Better eateries do not get enough reimbursement from the DDP program.
3) They would have to do as other eateries
. . . cut their unique menu items
. . . standardize some menu items
. . . reduce portion size
. . . cheapen other menu items
4) It is still a business - make enough to cover the cost and get a profit.

NOTE: This is why we patronize only five (5) sit-down eateries at WDW, and only two (2) oF them are owned by Disney. If we are paying top bucks, we want top notch food, service and atmosphere. Few WDW eateries offer all of those, even the popular eateries.

Many people (myself included) consider Bistro as the best restaurant in any of the Parks and probably second only to V&A on property. They only make reservations 30 days out, have no children's menu, and do not accept DDP (but they do give DDE/TIW discount).

We also think HBD stands out above the other park restaurants. We haven't tried Bistro yet though. I'm hoping for an exceptional meal there, when we go in Oct. If nothing else, the atmosphere should be better than most WDW restaurants offer.

I'm so glad that Bistro is not on the dining plan and does not offer a children's menu. It's not quite as good as V&A but it is definitely better than the "signatures" on the dining plan. We try to make this our last meal of every vacation. There's nothing better than eating (and drinking) here and then dragging our stuffed carcasses back to the Beach Club; it's the only time the walk seems long.

We had ADR's for my birthday it was wonderful. My husband is from France and he loves both Bistro and Chef's. We walked up on our last night and were able to dine again. There were at least 3 tables of locals eating at Bistro, raving about it. I think it is the nicest restaurant in all of WDW, it is just perfect, IMOP. Brown Derby was wonderful as well. My only so/so meal was Italy for lunch. It was OK, just OK.

I am so glad to read more good reviews about Bistro. Our next trip to WDW is just DH & I - our first week long trip alone ever. I chose this restaurant to begin our celebration trip off on the romantic foot.

5. Ok, you got me. I can't figure out the only other Disney-owned restaurant you'd go to. I'm guessing it's possibly Jiko.

RustyS., if I could ask, because you've got me curious ...

We love Bistro de Paris, too, but I didn't know it wasn't Disney owned. Is it, like Yak & Yeti, owned by a different entity? I know there are other park restaurants (San Angel Inn, for instance) that have corporate parents elsewhere. Who owns Bistro?

I like 4 of those... Narcoosees I think is very good too. Shula's is one of the most overated Steakhouses I have ever eaten at... Maybe its because I'm from Chicago and we have some many stellar steakhouses here(David Burke's Primehouse which I feel is the best in the City and maybe the best I ever had, Gibsons, Gene and Georgettis, The Chop House)... But I've been to three different Shula's and never had a steak worth the money... yes, its better than Outback, but sadly not much better, IMHO. Reminds me of Morton's, another steakhouse where quality doesn't match the price.
