Biscuit's Grand Adventure | An epic tale three decades in the making!

You know, people just don't use the phrase "sally forth" as much as they should.

Thanks for not leaving us hanging for too long, GB.

My girls (13, 8, and 3) never sleep in. Ever. And since late nights are out of the question for us, we stick with what we know and always hit rope drop. Kind of the non-GB touring plan.

We loves us some breakfast ressies at the World. This year (as we always do) we had an 8:00 at CRT, and the food was different. Very meh-like. It was definitely a theme, as we were disappointed at Chef Mickey's and many other places as well.

But it's still Disney World, and I still didn't have to cook it or clean up, so it's was all good. And it was all "free." This was our first year of free dining, and we tried many, many places we normally wouldn't spend the time or money on. It was fine, but not even Le Cellier lived up to my expectations.

Next year, if we have the options that have presented themselves in the past, I think we'll go for the room discounts instead of free dining. We'll go back to our limited array of table service meals, but mix it up a little bit. We've never tried Norway, and despite being fully briefed on what to expect, we'll see how it goes.

Write on, Good Biscuit!

I love the picture you took on the boat of the monorail and sunburst. So pretty!
Thanks!

I must say I"m jealous that your girls like to sleep in. I dream of a day like that!
It is certainly Nice

I just got caught up! Glad you enjoyed the WL, we loved it and DH now refuses to let me even suggest another resort for our next trip. We had breakfast at the WCC and unfortunately we didn't get to experience ANY of the fun antics that make the WCC's atmosphere. I ended up canceling our lunch ADR and I regret it now.
You’ve created a Resort Snob! Awesome!

Wow, looking at your Princess pics I noticed that none of the princesses are the same. We weren't that impressed with Akershus either but it will probally stay on our list since of the interaction. Tell Hailee I am right there with her on shoes I would go barefoot year round if I could!
I noticed that in other folks photos are a tone of different CM’s playing the roles. The best CM of the bunch character wise during our visit was Snow White. She had the voice and mannerisms down PERFECT. Ariel seemed like she was in a bit of a daze the entire time and her entire repertoire was limited to “Good Morning Princesses”. Aurora and Bell both did a great job interacting with the girls. Cinderella was the most “royal” and remained regal & proper throughout.

Awesome update as usual GB!!!! Funny how for us it's early mornings that work !!! Kyle is up at the crack of dawn and then it's useless to even try to sleep!!!!:rotfl2:Now by supper time he is DONE only wants the POOL!!! So it's what works for you !!!:thumbsup2
The thing I think I learned the most from our “training run” and our many trips to Sea World is that forcing the girls to get up early and go all day always ends poorly. Conversely we would often see parents forcing their kids to stay till closing during said excursions whose kids were in full on meltdown mode. You have to know your kids and plan what is going to work best for you. Let’s face it. We’d all LOVE to be able to be at the Morning EMH rope drop and stay till the Evening EMH gate closing. And if you had a one day trip, and everyone was well rested the day before, and your kids were old enough to handle the power touring, and if it wasn’t too hot outside, then MAYBE you could pull it off. But reality for us is, we have a limited number of hours per day the girls can handle so it’s best to use those hours during times when the girls will have the most energy and get the most enjoyment out of it. (Was that a ridiculously long reply?)

Another update well done.....your talent for writing is why I started reading your TR's and it's why I keep coming back for more. :thumbsup2
Thanks Millie!

Looks like I'm going to have to rethink our ADR for Akershus's, my dd10 looked at reviews and liked what they had to offer for breakfast over what the Castle had. <sigh> I still have the Castle ADR scheduled (scored that today) but I'm not sure if I'm willing to let either go at this point. I have roughly 6 months to decide.....oh the torture of ADR's. ;) I think in the end I'll end up honoring what the little lady wants. :goodvibes This trip is big brothers high school graduation celebration, but we need to maker her feel she's just as special.
Sorry to hi-jack. :)
I wouldn’t put too much stock in reviews. Like the saying goes, “Opinions are like rear ends. Everybody’s got one and most of them stink.”

what a funny update with the writing, GB. Sorry your breakfast was less than stellar, though.
I am not wired for mornings either, by a long shot.
Hey BSG! Glad you enjoyed it. All told if only one morning out a whole 8 days spent at the world turned out to be less then ideal, well, I’ll call that a successful trip any day!

Masterful writing, oh scribe of great renown! Chronicles such as these in history may go down!!
Thanks!

Yeah, we're so with you- late(r) nights, NO early AMs. They stink!

Bummer the food was so meh. I'd have been mad too at the bill- good thing you were on the noblemen's dining plan!
Now we know. And knowing is half the battle. G.I. JOE! Anywho…I was definitely glad it was a “credit” and not actual cash I was paying at the time. It made it easier to deal with.

blahsville food, melting princesses and all from a writing standpoint one of my all time favorite Biscuit updates!
Awwww…thanks!

What a riot and it is lovely you are able, in retrospect, to make light of what sounds like a horribly draining morning with little reward at the time.
Yeah, we were definitely glad to see that morning come to an end. But in hindsight, it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.

My family has a split personality, we have half of the sleep in late night variety and half of the up early late (but not AS late) night variety. It causes morning anst. It remains to be seen how that really pans out on this next blisteringly hot trip.
My dad gets up EVERY day at 5AM, without fail. So when we all get together, he’s ready to crash in the evenings while we’re just getting started. I’m not sure how he managed to survived EMH. Must have been the Disney Magic rubbing off.

I'm so sorry your meal wasn't as Magical as the others. Early mornings are rough after late nights and the heat makes it even worse. I'm trying to remember if I saw any bananas when we were there. Although I like bananas my true love is strawberries and yes I do remember seeing those. I've eaten there 3 times and had good experiences except for the wait. Next trip we're going to try lunch.
They did have strawberries when we went. In fact, I think that’s what Hailee eventually settled for.

You know, people just don't use the phrase "sally forth" as much as they should.
This is my point exactly.

Thanks for not leaving us hanging for too long, GB.
Thank my trainer. We had a section of class where we were given a Blackberry technical problem that we had to: Identify, list the steps to resolve, compose an email to the customer, and list the escalation path. She gave us 90 minutes to do this. 90. As in an hour and a half. That’s like an entire Disney Animated Feature. With Previews. In her defense, most of the people in the class were not from tech support. I spend 8 hours a day troubleshooting Blackberries. I was done in 4 minutes. I asked her what I should be doing and her reply was “I don’t care as long as you’re quiet.” And thus Episode 71 was born.

My girls (13, 8, and 3) never sleep in. Ever. And since late nights are out of the question for us, we stick with what we know and always hit rope drop. Kind of the non-GB touring plan.
The Anti-Biscuit. I like it!

We loves us some breakfast ressies at the World.
I wanted to. Really I did. Just not sure if the place was having an off day or what.

This year (as we always do) we had an 8:00 at CRT, and the food was different. Very meh-like. It was definitely a theme, as we were disappointed at Chef Mickey's and many other places as well.

This has sadly been a recurring theme since the induction of free dining. Don’t know if it’s that they restaurants make less, or just have such a larger quantity of orders to fill that they can’t maintain quality or what. It’s sad really. In a way I’m glad I didn’t eat at many TS places in the old days. At least now I don’t know what I’m missing.

What a friggin' awesome update, GB! Seriously. Your talent for writing just blows me away. Now, I'm not saying I couldn't have written something that original and entertaining - it's just that someone else would have had to give me the idea and then I would have had to write and write and edit and re-edit and re-edit and re-edit for about a YEAR before flipping a coin to decide whether to post it or trash it and give up on the whole stinkin' thing.

It sure is a good thing that all four of yall can all be night owls together. I think DH and I (NOT morning people) will just have to suck it up when we take DD to WDW and do the early mornings because that girl is always up and at 'em before sunrise. Out of the three of us, I figure *I* will be the most likely one to have a morning meltdown. On the other hand, the beast can usually be soothed by a big ol' breakfast. I may not be a morning person, but I do love me some breakfast.

Thanks for the incredible update!

Loved the beginning! "tower of yo-yo" :rotfl: I kept hearing you speaking in the prince's voice from Enchanted. (If you haven't seen it, you must!) At least you didn't stab any busses on the way to Akershus!

We loved Akershus for lunch and I'm right there with ya on the cheese! It got me hooked on Jarlsburg, which is unfortunately not cheap at the local Kroger's. I also have a kid that would eat her weight in bacon. We are morning people and just couldn't function on the late night schedule--you got to do what works with your family for sure.

This was a great installment! :thumbsup2

Caught up! :thumbsup2
Woohoo!

I like breakfast food, I just usualy eat it later.

Exactly! I'm having cheese cravings now.

I crossed the rampart to the tower of yo-yo

:lmao:

“Matt!” “What?” “If you don’t stop talking like that you are not going to live through ‘royal breakfast consumption’ ” “Riiiii…..oh. right.”

Tracy lasted longer than I would have:rotfl2:

She looks like she used a little too much self tanner:rolleyes1

By the time we got out of the parking lot, so was Hailee. Tracy and I discussed the morning and decided that breakfast at The World was just not for us. This was the one and only time that we dealt with meltdowns and crankiness the entire trip. Even though our ADR was at 10:30, we had still gotten up pretty early to get the girls’ hair done and get them all gussied up. We vowed from that point forward to stick with our late nights and sleeping in. It works for us. It’s how we’re wired. It’s how we roll baby.

We found this with Jimmy too. Normally heis an early to bed early to risekid, but something at WDW makes him a late night/late morning kid:thumbsup2

Coming up on Episode 72 – The Magic Returns.

:yay:popcorn::

That Ariel disturbs me slightly. She's orange.

Sorry to hear about the rough morning! But, at least you have some lovely pictures (minus the orange girl) of the Princesses with your girls! :thumbsup2 And, good learning experience-now you know how to tour for the next trip.

I hope the nap did you all well and you are able to make it to EMH!

Ok, I'm going to be honest here... I usually love TRs that have LOTS of pictures, and not too much story-telling... but HOLY COW! I can't get enough of this!! Your sense of humor, vocabulary, outlook on things... combined with the most professional-looking pictures ever! Awesome!

Thanks!!!

I thought I had already commented on your update and realized I hadn't! I wish you had a better experience at Akershus, but as you said, if it's one day out of the whole time you're there it's not too bad :) I'm still trying to decide what kind of character meal to do for Piper while we're there, and from what I've seen of the breakfast reviews, lunch or dinner might be the way to go, lol. As always, your pictures were awesome! Looking forward to the next update...

Hey GB,

I've been reading but evidently not posting :confused3

I KNEW you guys would love WCC! My son is TERRIFIED of attention, so we've steered clear since the kids hit pre-teen-hood (which is now full-teen-hood). But I do recall liking the food! (Not that I'm much of a BBQ expert...)

I must say, I am very impressed with your willingness to go with the flow, as far as the girls and their tolerance levels are concerned. Whether it's leaving MK before Wishes for a dip in the pool or heading back to the resort after a less than satisfying breakfast for a nap, you certainly used your head and avoided those all too common meltdown disasters! There's an important lesson there that I wish more people would learn.

My sister and her family tried the Akershus breakfast and were similarly disappointed. Funny, she also said that Snow White was the best "in character" princess. And I agree with everyone else. That Ariel is scarily orange and rather bizarre looking.;)

Yeah, I think that Ariel would have made a better Drizella!

Awesome update, GB!

I knew you guys had been doing some late nights, but I guess I didn't notice that you were sleeping in as well. So that's how you do it. Normally, thats me at home, but on vacation I am up early and I burn out early. I so wish we could make the evening EMH's because nighttime in the parks is my favorite, but it never seems to happen.:confused3

Askershus is one of our favorites, mostly because my boys love anything containing the words "all you can eat". and I get my fill of the princesses without making them stand in lines.

for some reason a 16 yr old boy isn't that excited about meeting the princesses....unless it's Ariel or Jasmine.:rotfl2:

We love our breakfasts at Disney. Course as a clan my extended family have brunches when we get together too (yes, for thanksgiving, christmas or easter too. Then we all leave and see the other side of our families for dinner.) So perhaps the breakfast thing has been fostered in my kids.

But the great thing about Disney is that you have tons of options. Sometimes you find something that works and sometimes you find it just doesn't. Now you're free to explore other options. For us, Akersus breakfast is must. Each to their own.

Poor Ariel is getting the bum deal. I think SHE doesn't make a good Ariel. I think she's probably very pretty when she's out of her get up. However, in Ariel mode, she just looks off.
