Does anyone know of anything special that Disney will do for children that are celebrating their birthdays?

Make sure you go to City Hall at MK to get a "Today is my Birthday Button" They also have birthday buttons at AK, MGM and Epcot - just ask at Guest Relations.
Make sure you mention the bday at the sit down restaurants you dine at - they usually will come around and sing at your table and bring a cupcake for the child. Sometimes you can arrange for a cake (at a cost) Also mention it when you make any PS's.
I found that most things that happened were impromptu as a result of DS wearing his birthday badge.
We spent the day at MK, and at MTT a cast member asked me if it was alright to give DS a free bag of mickey gummies since it was his birthday. Also when we went to see Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the CM noticed DS's button and brought him to the front of the line to have everyone sing HB to him (with Dee and Dum leading the choir!)
We had dinner at 1900 Park Fare, they brought a cupcake and he got to keep the placemat with "My special day" on it with drawn pictures/autographs of all the characters that appear at the meal.
Quite a few characters autographed his book with HB.
And finally he got numerous HB's from various CM's and guests on his special day!
You can also arrange just about anything - if you are willing to pay for it! For example, we had a MK fireworks cruise booked at $120. They offered to make it a birthday cruise (cake and decorations on the boat) for another $100. (total $220.!) I declined!
We also had www.giftsofalifetime.com deliver a birthday basket to our hotel on the morning of his birthday. You can have them "tailor make" them according to what you want and the amount you want to spend.
I hope this helps.

to get a Birthday button if its not really your birthday THAT DAY, but you're celebrating it at WDW. We were going to celebrate my niece's b-day while at WDW. Her actual birthday is the day after we get home. I thought it would be fun to celebrate it at one of the parks. Is this okay or considered a no-no?

Terri

TEK224 - in answer - it depends.
Depending on how old your niece is, she might not like the idea of having a birthday button on a day that isn't her actual bday.
My advise is to get the button, maybe not wear it because it actually says, "TODAY is my birthday" and keep it to wear the day she returns on her actual day. But what I would do is make a PS, and advise you are celebrating DN birthday and hopefully they will bring the cupcake and sing. You can add to the celebration with other items such as balloons, gift baskets, etc.
My experience with the button is that DS5 kept correcting everyone the day before his actual - the story above took place on his actual day at MK.
There has been many debates on this issue - IMHO as long as DN is OK with it, then go for it.

Sorry.......I should add that they don't ask for proof of the actual birthday at Guest Relations - so yes, you can get a button if it isn't her actual day.

We will have a small party with our family, but are opting to not do anything big at home, since the real celebration will be at DW. We booked a load of character meals for the purpose of celebrating her Bday, as is this whole trip (OK, maybe its partially for us too!). We want her 1st birthday to be very, very special, even though she probably won't remember it. We probably won't do this "birthday week" at WDW in the future, but since she won't argue the point this year, we would love to do this for her. We are paying for it, so what is wrong with trying to make her feel as special as can be for this year? She already can recognize some of the DW music and some of the characters, and gets truly excited when she sees them. So, am I wrong to do "WDW birthday week", and allow her to be pampered by the CMs and the character meals?

frannn - are you wrong for doing birthday week - nope!
Go for it, enjoy and make sure you take lots of video and pic's so in future DD can see how you celebrated her 1st! :D

My niece will be 29 (honestly 29). I just thought it would be fun to have the characters make a fuss about her birthday. She really loves all the characters and has only been to WDW once before, many years ago.

Terri

If she's 29 - then go for it - get the button, make her wear it :D
and see what happens.
She'll have a magical 29th!

My DS will be turning 7 during our trip and we are opting for the birthday week idea. Usually when we are home for his big day, he gets to take cupcakes to school, have a party for family, have another for his friends, go out to dinner for his birthday, etc. So in actuality he is used to the birthday week idea!

It will also be my birthday while we are there but I am only celebrating it on my day (the day we arrive) and the day right after. My best friend in the whole world will be joining us for the weekend and we are planning to celebrate! Yes, I do plan on wearing the button! I have lived my whole life and never spent a birthday at Disney -- what could be better!

I have made all kinds of plans including telling the hotel, booking meals, and getting in touch with Pixie Gifts to deliver a package to the room. Beth has been extremely great and has the most wonderful ideas.

I think everyone should get to celebrate one birthday at Disney and I can't wait to enjoy mine! Make a big deal out of it for your DN and let us know all about the magic that happened! You only turn 29 once you know!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

How do I handle this? My DS's real bday (9) is on our 1st day (sept. 24th) and our DD (7) on day before our last (Sept. 30). We were planning on celebrating all week for both. Is it ok to ask for birthday pins at all of the parks for both of them? I don't want to lie to CMs, but a pin from each park would be really nice for them.

Shelby

P.S. We have PS for HDD 1st night for DS and PS for ohana on DD's day to make each feel more special on their real birthdays.

Yes, it would be OK to ask for pins X2 at all the parks. If they ask just tell them when the bdays are.....no problem!

We took my dd to Disneyland Paris for her 4th birthday. Because of the dates, we actually travelled home on her birthday, so we celebrated the day before. I explained to her that her real birthday was on Tuesday, but we were having her pretend birthday on Monday and she was happy with that. We did everything on Monday, even all her presents from us etc, and Tuesday was a pretty bland day (although she did have leftover birthday cake for breakfast, not many days she's allowed birthday cake for breakfast!!!)

we got the badge from City Hall, and it was so lovely, all day people were wishing her a Happy Birthday (usually in French!) and nice things kept happening, nothing particularly big, just little things, but all day.

We also booked a character meal and ordered a cake, and she had all the characters come out and bring the cake and sing Happy Birthday, it was really special.
