Birthdays and Best Friends on the Deluxe Dining Plan

We are doing California Grill for the first time in October - I can't wait.

And I like to get purple potatoes here - it just adds a variety of color to the plate - but they don't taste any different from regular potatoes:)

I should start this by saying that after we arrived at Disney we got a bit of a surprise. We found out that President Obama was going to be at the Magic Kingdom on this day. When we woke up, we saw TONS of media vans and security outside our hotel, and, I have to admit, I was really glad we'd planned to be at Animal Kingdom. DH and I are not fans of huge crowds.

We started our next day out with a shared breakfast from the Contempo Cafe. This trip I hadn't scheduled very many breakfasts, and I find that it helps me to get moving in the morning. We shared the adult breakfast platter and an orange juice.

It was pretty tasty and plenty of food for both of us.

When we finished breakfast, we met up with our friends and headed for the Animal Kingdom. Again, we got a pretty good luck at all the extra security and the media stage set up in front of the Contemporary.

Our lunch for today was at another of our favorites. We have eaten at Yak and Yeti every trip, and, although we did have one prior not so great experience, we enjoy it.

For our appetizers I had the fried green beans and DH had the egg rolls.

We actually ended up sharing the green beans all around the table, and we still didn't eat them all. They were quite yummy though :thumbsup2.

For our main dishes, DH and I get the same thing every trip. I had the sweet and sour chicken, and he had the steak and shrimp.

Our favorite part of the meal here is always dessert. I have dreams about the fried wontons . No matter how full I am, I always manage to eat most if not all of them.

DH also loves dessert here. He always gets the mango pie.

He cleaned his plate, and I think I might have caught him licking up all the last of the crumbs ;).

Since the president was at the Magic Kingdom, Disney scheduled "once in a lifetime" (according the CMs) fireworks at Hollywood Studios. We had earlier reservations at Fulton's, a first for us this trip because it had never been on the dining plan before, but we were able to change the ADRs fairly easily so that we could see the fireworks.

There was an 80s cover band that was actually really good preforming in front of the hat, and they shot the fireworks off behind it. We were pretty impressed, and glad that we got to see it.

After the fireworks, we headed over to Downtown Disney. DH had been asking to go to Fulton's almost every trip, but we never had because it was never on the dining plan. For the first time, in 2012, they were!!! He was so excited when I told him. They are a signature, but, depending on what you ordered, it is worth it. I will admit though, this ADR was for DH because I don't really eat seafood.

We were seated pretty quickly after checking in, but it was kind of weird because we had to walk all the way around on the outside of the boat and then back in before we got to our table. For those of you not familiar with Fulton's, the restaurant itself is actually a large boat. They were pretty busy, and one of the first things we noticed (and were less than thrilled with) was how close together the tables are.....you can barely scoot the chairs out far enough to sit down.

First off, they brought out the crackers and spread. I admit, I didn't eat it, but DH said it was just ok. They also brought out bread, and it was pretty good.

For appetizers, I had a caesar salad (boring I know). The dressing is house made, and it was pretty thick and tasty, but a little too peppery for my tastes.

Dh had the calamari. He usually likes calamari, but he wasn't thrilled with this one.

Next up was the main event. As I said, I don't really eat seafood, so I ordered the chicken. While some might find it boring, I thought it was really good. The chicken was juicy and there was plenty of it. The potatoes were just normal mashed potatoes, but they were good too.

Dh does like his seafood, and he got the snow crab and lobster. This was the first time he'd eaten a whole lobster, and, while he thought it was good, he said he prefers just the tail because it's too much of a pain to get the meat out of the claws. It was also a little creepy to have it looking across the table at me the whole time :crazy2:.

Next up was dessert. I had the chocolate cake. It was good, but I really wish there had been more of the raspberry sauce on it because it was kind of plain without it. The inner layers are a fluffier chocolate mousse.

Dh was especially excited about his dessert here and said he would go back just for it. He had a sour cherry cobbler.

While this would be a pretty expensive meal for what you get if you weren't on the dining plan, we did enjoy it. When I figured it up, Dh's meal did make it worth two credits, but mine didn't even come close.
