DD will be 8 next week & wants to take a special treat to share with her 2nd grade class.

Apparently, there is a girl in her class with some sort of food related issue. I don't have any specific details, just what I hear from the kids. They are not allowed any type of food in her classroom or "Susie" has to leave the room. Susie cannot go anywhere near the cafeteria. She has a permanent aide who follows her around all day sanitizing anything before she touches it, the slide, swings, water fountain, lockers, etc. My DD really likes her. We haven't received any notes home telling us this is a Peanut-Free class or anything of the sort. I sent a quick email to the teacher this morning just to clarify any restrictions we had.

I want to send in a Birthday treat that everyone can enjoy, something other than food. I'm stumped for ideas. Could use your help.

Thanks!

You could go to your local party store and get cute little trinkets like pencils and erasers ans stuff like like and put it in the little goody bags. Thats always a big hit.

Those little Japanese erasers are all the rage here right now. They can look like little toys (animals, marine life, etc) or even food but they are little erasers. I am bringing those into my DD's first grade class for her bday this week. Iparty around here has them.

Other than that, pencils, stickers, stuff like that usually goes over big.
Have fun!

I second the Japanese erasers. The kids around here love them, both boys and girls!

I sometimes pick up little things to use for "Question of the Day" type prizes, and pencils, stickers, sharpeners, and bookmarks have all been well-received, too.

I LOVED Japanese erasers when I was a kid! I was so excited to see some at the local craft store, but ala, I have no need for them these days. I think that's a great suggestion.

I'll look for the Japanese erasers - they look cute.

What about those little themed Rubber Duckies. They have birthday themes, rock star, etc. I think they're cute...but are they too baby-ish for 8 years olds?

I might call the teacher and ask what would be appropriate. I would definitely want to know if this kid has a specific allergy or what. I would guess if she can't go to the cafeteria that something like play-doh might not be good because it's got salt and some other "food" type stuff in it. Good luck.

I know when I was a kid we used to do Chinese jump rope. Maybe get a bunch of those and have your daughter teach the kids how to play? That might be kind of fun. I think they still sell them...
