I have a question. My son will be 3 next wednesday and we are planning to spend this weekend (the weekend before his birthday) at WDW. Would I be able to get him a birthday pin even though it isn't exactly his birthday? Any other birthday advice would be greatly appreciated also.

Yes, definitely. It is always someone's birthday when we go to WDW ;) We rarely go on the exact date, so we just celebrate whoever is closest. No one knows, so just enjoy the celebration. One time I was wearing my DD pin laynard and everyone sang happy birthday to me on the Jungle Cruise because I had her birthday button on. Too much to explain, so I just enjoyed it :)

You can pick up your button at guest services at the front of each park. They really do pay attention, many people in the parade at MGM wished my DD happy birthday. If you have a sit down meal make sure you tell the wait staff and you usually get something. At the Crystal Palace I got a cupcake and a birthday card signed by Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eyeore :earsboy:

Oh definitely get a pin for your Ds. We went just before (about a week) my DD's 2nd birthday and we got her a pin. As said above, many characters wished her happy Birthday during the parade. Wendy grabbed a cast member and let my DD pick a pin off his lanyard. Many characters sang happy birthday to her. My DD was in heaven! This all made her feel so special! While in some lines for rides we were pulled out a few times and put in the fast pass line as a "birthday treat". All the restaurants we ate at brought her a special desert and a special card that was signed by either the characters or the waiters. The desert was different at each place and some were really cool!! At the princess breakfast in Epcot the desert was a troll cookie put on a plate with different colored jells. They gave my DD a paint brush to paint the jells on her cookie with! :p

I say let him wear the pin everyday and tell the castmembers its his birthday everywhere you go!! They really make you feel special! princess:

Oh my do I have a lot to look forward to! :Pinkbounc

I'm going to try my hardest to get a PS for Cindy's princess: , otherwise I'm eating with Pooh and the Gang at CP for my b-day breakfast!

I don't want to be negative, but I have read several posts on these boards where people said that they never received any special perks from wearing the birthday button, and that it's best to not have any expectations just in case.

I'm planning to get DD the pin on our trip, but I'm not going to tell her that special things may happen. Hopefully they will. :)

We're celebrating my DDs 7th birthday this trip. Every PS I made I told them and they always noted it. We'll get the pin too. I think some places give out autographed pictures, some cupcakes and some just sing Happy BIrthday. I think CHef Mickeys it's a special placement. It doesn't really matter what it is it's just a little extra attention for the birthday girl or boy. I'm also going to order the slipper dessert for dinner at GF and a cake for our room. This way we're covered no matter what the restaurants do. I'm also getting balloons for our room.

I know I shouldn't expect all that stuff but I can hope at least a couple "Happy Birthdays!" during my visit. Plus I made an extra pin just in case they don't see the first one!
