Hi Everyone
I am having my daughtes bday party at home. We are on a budget due to our upcoming trip. I will probably make the cake, but I wanted to get some ideas as to how to entertain the kids for the two hours that they will be at my house. I was thinking of doing some sort of craft.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

My daughter is turning 9 and there really is no theme. Just want to have a fun backyard bday party.

Water activites are fun for an outdoor party. A sprinker, a water slide or just lot of water guns.

Maybe make tie-dye t-shirts? A craft of some type for sure.

Serve watermellon or create your own ice cream bar.
If it is an evening party, maybe show a movie outdoors with popcorn?

Depending on how much trouble you want to go, decorating tote bags or little purses can be a short craft or longer. Use fabric pens or get ribbon, flat beads, trim & fabric paint & let them decorate. You could do carnival type games - hit the bottles w/the ball, duck pond, bean bag toss, face painting, throw the ring around the animal/box/whatever, etc.

My kids still love pinatas and pin the tail - I make my own based on the theme - pin a heart on Build a Bear, light saber on Darth Vader, bone in Scooby's mouth. Water balloons are a pain but a big hit too. Set up some box "forts" or decorate them & let the kids have a blast. Ladder ball, relay races, obstacle course, lots of ideas that will keep them busy & don't cost much to put together. Happy bday to her!

A couple ideas for you-

I had a princess party for my daughter last year andit was a hit (she also was turning 6). I invited everyone to dress up in their "princess best or fancy dress". We made tiaras (cheap kits at michaels or a party store). We did makeovers-I put on light make-up/glitter and painted nails with nail stickers. I had all the girls sit on pillows and underneath one pillow as a green marble (pea) as I read "Princess and the Pea". At the end of the story they looked under their pillow--one with the marble won a small prize. Also played hot potato with a small dollar store wand--winner got the wand. We danced to music and the girls also had free play time. Had cake and light snacks. Very fun!!

My son had a "Splash Bash". Slip n slide, water guns, grilled hot dogs, sprinkler, etc. Fun but messy! We had a candy buffet near the end of the party as the favor. This was a huge hit. You can go to my website and look at pictures (Gallery--bottom of the page). You could start buying candy cheaply to put this together.

Candy Buffets

Have fun!

Be sure an have back up plan in case of rain! In that case we set up a couple of card tables an played board games the girls had as much fun playing board games together as they would have anything else.

Balloon volleyball was always a hit at my house. We also played Mario Cart an had tournaments with it where the winners played winners till we had one grand champion works with other racing games as well....

Send home party favor was pillsbury cookies or something I had in fridge DH works for the doughboy so FREE dough products. That started as the ****ie gift but then all the girls wanted some an I gladly give that stuff away most of the time.

9 yr old girls love nail polish an lipstick or lip gloss might get the each a cheap nail polish an lip stick for party favor. Maybe buy a card of the claw hair clips put a couple of those in the goodie bag.

If you plan party say between 2 an 4 pm you shouldn't need to feed them anything but cake an ice cream. If outside on a very hot day tho plan on lots of drinks water works tho.

OHHHHHHHHHHH another option make cupcakes the the girls frost an decorate them

I'm waiting till my daughter is a year or two older to do a backward party :

You send out invitations that are written backward - you can use the mirror image when printing from the computer - the invitees have to read it in a mirror.

When they arrive, you tell them thanks for coming and give them goodie bags.

You start with opening gifts, then cake (sit under the table rather than at the table), sing "Happy Birthday" backwards - have the words written out on a posterboard to help.

Have backwards running races, have a relay race to wrap empty gift boxes (rather than unwrapping them), After a few games have some "healthy food" - veggies and dip, or some fruit (if it's in the midday so you don't need a full meal).

Play pin the tail on the donkey, but whomever is furthest away wins.... etc.

Just be goofy and do standard stuff backwards.

At the end of the party, welcome everyone and send them home.

It's a whole theme, but doesn't really cost anything.
