Birthday Party Ideas

Ok...ya'll usually have great ideas, so I thought I would ask here.

I want to throw my DD11 a 12th birthday party.

She really likes playing Rockband, so I thought I would use that as my Theme.

I'll set up the XBOX so they can rock all night(well until 10 )


But I need ideas for food and decorations.


Any suggestions?

How about getting them to put the toppings on their own pizzas? Maybe making them some sort of non- alcoholic fruit punch etc

I'll definitely make some kind of 'rockstar' punch.

I'm not sure about making the pizzas though. I think it would be too hetic trying to pull them away from the game to get them to do that.

Well, 12 year olds do get hungry

The secret to the "make your own pizza" thing, is prep (on your part). If you have the crusts ready, with sauce on them, and the toppings ready in little bowls, so the kids can add pepperoni, olives, cheese, etc. then it will work.

If you put all the stuff out on a plastic disposable table cloth, then you can just roll up the mess afterwards and toss it. The real challenge is having enough baking sheets for it all

For decorations, would she like a disco ball or could you get colored light bulbs to temporarily replace your regular ones? To make it look "rock concert-ish"

Actually, for that age, I'd just say have food and plenty of it, and they'll be happy. LOL Party mix is good as you don't need messy dip with it, and they can eat it while they're playing. My kids like chips and salsa and nachos with cheese, but I wouldn't want them eating that stuff over their games.

I know 12 year olds get hungry, but I'm thinking that making their own pizzas, well it would just not go well.
'They are 12.... that is done by like..you know... 6 year olds mom. '


I love those cakes! A friend of DH's is a chef. and he can easily do any of them. I'll have to forward those pictures.


I wanted to have a few ideas before I gave her the idea. Right now...most parties around her are organized events, paintball, lazertag, Dave & Busters, etc.

So I want to have a few good ideas to help sell the point of a 'home' party.

I'll have to look into a disco ball.... or something similar...that's a great idea.

If you search on-line, (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstagetour/index.html) you can find information on the stuff that rock bands request in their rooms before shows. Just from Movies and TV, some ideas that come to mind are:

*Bottled Water in ice to keep it cold
*Green M&Ms (or really any color just out on its own) (Wayne's World)
*Odd colored nail polish (A la Celebrity Apprentice)
*Assorted Candy Bars (The Killers)
*Assorted Fresh Fruit (The Killers)
*Cold cuts and assorted breads
*Sodas (With Ice, of course!)
*Various alcohol (although I would think Sparkiling Grape Juice would be more appropriate. )
*Chips
*Red Gatorade (KISS)
*'Store Bought' Cookies (Guns & Roses)
*Hot Chocolate (Metallica)
*Cole Slaw or Potato Salad (Van Halen)
*Mini hot dogs in sauce (ZZ Top)
*Peanuts (Jimmy Buffett)

Anyway, you get the idea. You can find a wealth of EASY ideas that would allow you to set up before the party and not have to do too much during. Some of the requests are so strange that it would probably go over well at a party. You could also ask your Daughter (and maybe some of her friends) to provide her own 'Rider' for the party (which, of course you get veto power on!) so that you know what she might like.

You could decorate the room like a backstage area.
