I am having a large cook out/ birthday party for my daughter, who will be turning 6. I need some budget friendly game ideas for kids age 6-7. There will be some younger kids there too, but I want to focus on my daughter and her crew the most. I also need some ideas of "prizes" and goody bag loot. So here is what I have so far:

1. donut on the string- eat powdered donuts that are dangeling from a string with out using your hands.

2. hoola hoop pass- have children make a large cirlce and hold hands :grouphug:. They have to pass the hoola hoop from person to person with out letting go of hands. When the music stops who ever has a hoola hoop on them is out of the game.

That is it- I know you guys are clever and budget conscious so can you help me out???

How about these:

- bean bag toss throw a hole cut in decorated cardboard, or into a washbasket

- drop clothes pins in to a milk bottle or other bottle

- bowling with wiffle balls or tennis balls and soda bottles

- dress up: fill two bags with similar items such as baggy pants, oversized t-shirt, slippers, gloves, hat, etc. Then have teams for a relay race. They have to put everything on in the bag, run to the next person on their team and take it all back off and put it in the bag for the next person. Seeing the kids hurry to put the things on is hilarious - make it more interesting and put in jewelry or a package of chewing gum that they have to unwrap with the gloves on!

- a treasure hunt: give clues and each time they successfully find the next clue there are small prizes waiting for them - this can be done in teams or as a group or separate - depending on how many kids you have there.

Prizes: Bubble blowing solution, jump ropes, gum, candy, plastic jewelry for girls, squirt guns for boys, punching balls instead of balloons, certificates to McDonalds or another fast food restaurant for fries or icecream. If you have an Eckerd store near you (mine is changing to a RiteAid) they are having 75% off all their summer toys and mine had a ton left! You can pick up some pretty good prizes cheaply.

Have a great party and happy birthday to your daughter! princess:

We did an easier version of a treasure hunt, simply cuz we had kids from age 2-7. But, everybody loved what we did. We didn't do the clues, we just let them out in the backyard, and then I had 2 of those plastic kiddie pools, and filled them with packing peanuts (I got free off Craigslist). I made one for the boys and one for the girls. There were bracelets, beaded necklaces, gold coins, pirate toys, and rings in them. Here's a picture from our balcony...

How about a pinata? This way they have a candy bag to take home with them.........

When I was a kid and living in England, we used to play "Pass the Parcel" at birthday parties. When we moved back to the U.S., we always played it at our parties and everyone loved it. You take a prize and wrap it up, then put it in a box and wrap it again. Keep going ad nauseam. You can make some layers of wrapping more difficult -- wrap with a layer of a ton of rubberbands or tape or whatever. Basically at the end you have a huge wrapped present with tons of wrapped layers on the inside. The kids sit in a circle and pass the box -- when the music stops, whoever is holding the box starts to unwrap. When the music starts again, they have to resume passing. Whoever finally unwraps the prize in the middle gets to keep it. Depending on how many layers you are willing to wrap, this game can kill a lot of time.

We did that too! Forgot about that. The only downside was we bought the ones that have the pull string, and it got opened on the 3rd pull. I think most are made that way now anyway. I filled it with candy, some tattoos, and bead necklaces. And even though only 3 kids (including my own birthday kids) pulled the strings, they all screamed about scrambling for stuff!

Ah Pinata's!!! When I was pregnant with my third child, we had a kids birthday party which included a rainbow shaped pinata. The kids all took a few turns hitting it, but it would break. Then I tried hitting it, but it wouldn't break. While my sister kept the kids busy for a few minutes, I took a butcher knife to the pinata, so on the next whack - it opened!!! Fond memories!:rotfl:

How about the classic - Pin the .... on the ..... We've done it at 3 parties now & the kids all ask to play multiple times. We've done pin the heart on build-a-bear, bone in Scooby's mouth, Spiderman on a target on a wall, etc. If you can semi-draw, the kids are happy. I use cardboard & cardboard pieces w/tape on the back.

A scavenger hunt through the house is fun too. We have the kids take turns being leader so it's not a mad scramble throughout. You can kill time w/that too! The "prize" is usually a pinata that they open.

what great ideas. I really appreciate this. I am hoping for nice weather- but any ideas on what to do if it rains??

face painting , I did the designs on them they picked and musical chairs and 3 legged race, hot potato . my kids thought they were fun anyhow

A relatively inexpensive game that we have played is wrap the mummy. Kids pair of in 2's and each get a roll of toilet paper. One wraps the other..if it rips, they just start again and keep going.....then the first team to finish gets a prize and then the best mummy gets a prize. It is a hilarious game...kids and adults alike giggle...:thumbsup2

We have done this one too and tried it with toilet paper but it kept ripping so next time we used white crepe paper and it held up much better.
