We are traveling to the world in May. It will be myself, dh, dd 16, ds13, and ds who will turn 3 during the trip. We are looking simple ideas to help him celebrate. He was adopted a little less than a year ago, and while adjusting very well, we are approaching Disney cautiously this trip. It is his first trip, and we do not want to overwhelm him. He loves all things Disney and is obsessed with MM Clubhouse, but they are on TV, and not 6 feet tall in front of him. I may be wrong, but the characters are likely going to freak him out if they get too close. They freaked our other 2 out and they did not have any sensory issues ;)Just looking for some ideas to help celebrate this birthday that aren't too "in your face" if that makes sense. Thanks in advance!

You can buy the birthday ears for him to wear and wear the birthday button? People will say happy birthday to him all day long.

If you are staying onsite they have a package where the characters decorate and leave presents in your room. It's fun to come back from the park to presents from Mickey and the gang!

I knew about the buttons but I did not know that about the package! We are staying at Pop so I will check into that! Thanks!:thumbsup2

We were at the Magic Kingdom today, my son's 7th Birthday. I had a fast pass to see talking Mickey. Well, Mickey not only told him Happy Birthday, but sang Happy Birthday to him, it was awesome!

My kids have never been afraid of the characters. I had them watch the Disneyland Fun Singalong DVD so I think they were prepared for the characters to be big. My kids still love that DVD and the songs. It is really dated but it is a great way to introduce a toddler to WDW or DL. Kids really enjoy the songs.

I would do a restaurant or book a character meal and let them know it is your son's b-day so you get a cupcake or cake.

We took our DD for her 4th bday and had the same concern. Honestly the autograph book helped so much. We met Mickey as soon as we entered but I didn't see her reaction. We did 4 sit down character meals both with full costume and regular non costume ( princess). She loved both. The characters know how to approach kids. My best memories. Also be sure to tell your resort you are having a bday. Minnie I think called our room that am to wish a happy bday. Or maybe it was Mickey. Need to watch the video. Have fun.

First of all buy a chocolate cake for him. Does he like baseball, if then buy a little baseball bat for him also a cap.

The in room celebration that was mentioned earlier on is a great way for anyone to celebrate their birthday. We have done this twice once for DD and once for DS. In my opinion though, for what you get it is very expensive! It is also very cute! And i would do it again, just for the reaction! With that, if my kids were a little bit younger, and i could have gotten away and decorated the room myself for them i would do so, as it would have been ALOT cheaper. If you look at the disney floral site and check out the options, know that items can be replaced with other items if you want.
What about Pirates League, and maybe a pirates cruise?
Also make sure to mention at your ADR's that it is DS birthday he may get a special treat! Whispering Canyon is a fun restaurant for kids that does not have characters, they have fun little antics and such, if you youtube it you can see what you think.
Whatever you chose i am sure he will have a great birthday!
