Hi Universal Folks

I'll be travelling to Universal with my DS11 and DD9 in late August. Actually my daughter's 10th birthday will be right in the middle of our visit to the Universal Orlando resort. We'll be staying one night at Sapphire Falls, then moving to the Royal Pacific for two nights (for the express passes).

I am trying to think of anything that would be a good way to mark the day like a special meal somewhere, or an activity that would be particularly appealing to a 10 year old girl. If we were at Walt Disney World I would have plenty of ideas but I'm having a bit more trouble coming up with something at Universal.

Any thoughts on what might be appropriate and enjoyable? Could be in the parks or Citywalk since we're staying on site for a couple of days. No Hello Kitty store please. Our daughter does like "girl things" but that place will be too much girly girl and cuteness for her.

Thanks for any ideas.

ask for the free birthday/celebrating button when you check into the hotel or at guest services

it will be worth it.

Like Mac said above get her the birthday button.

How about Universals Superstar Character breakfast at Cafe LaBama. You can read about it under the dining section on Universals website.

If she is a Potter fan see if you can talk to TM about getting her picked for the Ollivanders presentation and then buy her the interactive wand that is chosen for her.

If you don't want to do that buy her some Potter gifts and present them to her. Her favorite character from the Potter series wand, a Robe from her favorite house at Hogwarts, Bertie Botts, Chocolate frog, Pygmy Puff, Potter lanyard from her fav house, Potter pins for lanyard, t-shirts etc. lots of options. Then take her to Honeydukes and let her choose some treats from the yummy display case.

If she loves the Minions there all lots of options from t-shirts, lanyards, pins and even apples to eat.

Lots of characters to choose form at Universal. Find out which she likes then go online to Universals online store and get inspired.

When you check in make sure sure she gets to choose the character she wants for her room key. You all can do that. They will show you the options.

Gina-Gina-Bo-Bina has a sticky with a review and pics on the breakfast at Cafe LaBama. You might want to give it a read.
Hope this helps pixiedust:

We were there for my youngest's 10th bday last July...the witch we bought his Ravenclaw house robes from gave him his birthday button, and he was also picked to name the newly hatched baby dinosaur at the Jurassic Park Discovery Center.

I would pick the area of the park that appeals to her the most, and plan something special for her there. For us, it's HP all the way :-)

Have fun, and happy birthday to your DD!!

Last November we did the Shutterbuttons top notch shots moving picture. It's cute interaction for a group, I thought over-priced (approx $70 as I recall) but DIL & GD were thrilled with end result.

The Character meal at LaBamba is wonderful! A great way to start off the birthday.

Our first trip to Universal was last summer when our girls were 9.5. We are not regulars and have not done this, but maybe Blue Man Group tickets? Or go to Disney Springs for La Nouba ( we recently saw a different Cirque show and my now 10 yo dds loved it).

Shutterbuttons also looks cute, especially if she's a big fan of Harry Potter. If the new Toothsome Chocolate Factory is open, that looks great, but I doubt it will be. My girls wouldn't be into the character meal as they aren't into any of those characters.
My girls would probably love a Diagon Alley shopping spree/shutterbuttons/ice cream extravaganza.

Hope you enjoy it! My two loved WWoHP so much we'll be back this August!

As others have mentioned, as a small but fun thing, do get a birthday button (we get it at the park customer services, I didn't know we could get it at the hotel). Team members have announced our daughter's birthday at rides, she has received "mummy dust" advantages at carnival games, and been presented with special desserts at table service restaurants. Obviously no guarantees for anything, but we have many memories due to her wearing the birthday button. Heck if we were there for my birthday, I'd wear one.

sometimes the hotels at the check in counter have the button.
if you made a note on your reservation or booked a package, they may have one to give you at check in .

but, they are always available at guest services.
