I will be celebrating my 39th birthday in August while at WDW. I had previously scheduled a PS at 50's PT, but my family has decided to forego the Studios this trip so we can concentrate on the other 3 parks and the water parks. Therefore I need to find a (non-MGM) restaurant to celebrate my birthday.

While at WDW, I will be a non-practicing adult, so I don't want to eat at a hoity-toity place like V&A, and I don't want to eat without my kids.

DW and I both have adventureous tastes, but the kids are chicken fingers/pizza/mac & cheese/grilled cheese kind of kids. We are already doing Chef Mickeys, WCC, Teppenyaki, Cape May clambake , and a Princess Breakfast.

What's a fun place for a birthday dinner that fits our citeria?

How about dinner at the Garden Grill? Farmer Mickey would be happy to help you celebrate while you rotate around the Land!

Have you ever eaten at 'Ohana at the Polynesian? My husband and I enjoy their food and you can order from the children's menu for the kids. Also, not sure how old your children are, but they have coconut races for the kids and a sometimes a guy with a Ukelele goes around the place singing (sometimes happy birthday if there are any out there). Our first time eating there was on our honeymoon in 1997, the waitress noticed our very shiny new looking rings and asked if it was our honeymoon and we said yes. She then brought us out a dessert to share (our choice off the menu for free) and the ukelele guy had all the honeymooners/anniversary people get up and slow dance with each other while played some romantic hawaaian sounding song.
We had a great time and the view if you get to sit by the window is terrific!

Ohana! Why didn't I think of that? It's now at the top of my list, till I change my mind again. I wonder if I can get a PS less than 3 weeks out?

Anyway, the kids are 5 and 6, they'll love it there.

Spoodles and the Kona Cafe both come to mind as being casual and family oriented, with "traditional" children's menu's and some more "exoticly" inspired cuisine for adults.

The desserts at the Kona are simply incredible.

I doubt you'd have any problem, lately since we have a toddler, we don't make any PS's not knowing if he'll be sleeping, his mood, etc. The last few times we've been there, I've been able to call the day of and get a PS. Not that I'm suggesting you do this, but I would think this would be enough time ahead. Wherever you decide enjoy and happy birthday!

Can someone fill me in? What is a non-practicing adult?

I would suggest Whispering Canyon Cafe because the servers really like to play with the guests. Be sure to tell them that it's your b'day. :)

I have several pix of the restaurant HERE.

LOL...thanks for the explanation. Can I join your club?

In that case how about dinner in the castle? Special setting and good food?
