birthday cake ?

For anyone who has had a birthday while at Disney, will the resort (Polynesian in our case) provide a birthday cake in the room on request? If not, we could just ask for one at the restaurant we will be at on that night. (Ohana's) Thanks for any help.

We mentioned that some in our party was celebrating a birthday and we were comped a cake. I never had that happen in all the times we had stayed there. It was very nice and quite a surprise. Other times when we had requested one from room service we had it delivered with out much fan fare It was not very expensive I think about $25. When they sent it to our room we got balloon and a card from Mickey. No drinks, when I ordered it we got Chocolate milk for the children.

We stayed al the WL in March. At checkin I told them it was my finace's birthday, and they surprised him with a cake, balloons, and a card. Since we were checking out on his bday, they sent it the night before.

We celebrated DS's 15th B-day at Chef Mickeys. I had preordered a cake thru them, and it was fabulous. They made a big deal out of the presentation, and they packed up the remainder of the cake for us to take back. Later that week while eating at O'hanas we mentioned that his b-day was that week, and they brought him a huge complimentary piece of cake and sang!

we were there may 17 -26 and mentioned that it would be my wifes 40th b-day . the first nite when we returned to our room there was a bag with a mickey clock, a small stuffed animal, and a signed picture of minnie mouse wishing her a happy b-day. they even put here name on the picture. man i love disney........

Pitter, your best bet is to order a birthday cake in advance. I know that the GF bakery makes marvelous ones and I believe the cost is around $30. As some people have posted here, you *may* receive one if you mention it, but more often than not you will not. That's why if you really want to celebrate, please order one in advance either through your resort or through the GF's bakery. By the way, have a magical vacation!

We've always gotten a comp cake...but, it was always when we stayed concierge.

We stayed at the Poly last Aug. for dd's 9th b-day. We told them at check in that we were celebrating her birthday. As we were getting ready to go to the pool we heard a knock on the door and it was a cm with 2 cakes(we had a lg grp traveling with us), a card, horn blowers, confetti and balloons. It was a highlight in our dd's trip. We also told them at Chef Mickeys that we were there for her b-day and they brought out a cupcake with a candle and sang to her. Make sure you get your birthday button at MK. My dd enjoyed hearing people wish her a happy b-day.

When we stayed at the YC concierge last year, and I mentioned that it was my sister's birthday. They told me that they don't do anything for birthdays and I was welcome to walk over to the boardwalk and purchase a cake form the bakery. And they could have some characters come up to the concierge to the tune of $200 (I think) an hour (by the way they charge you for the time it takes the characters to get to the desired location).

So needless to say our birthday experience at Disney left something to be desired. But I am glad to hear that so many other people had wonderful celebrations.

I agree - If you want to celebrate, plan something special yourself. Two years ago we went to my daughters favorite restaurant Ohana to celebrate her 9th birthday. Well, what a let down.

First, the hostess told us that they didn't do anything special for birthdays. Okay, that was fine.

Our waitress later asked why my daughter was so dressed up and we told her we were celebrating a birthday. She then said, they do give complimentary cupcakes. We said that would be great.

When it was time for the cupcake, the waitress plopped it on the table and announced "She didn't sing, so dig in" as she was walking away.

On our way out we noticed that there were several other people celebrating birthdays with cupcakes. They were being sung to by the Ukelele players.

When we got to our hotel room (ASMo) we had expected a card from Minnie for my daughter. This was requested earlier in the week and the CM said it would be done. Guess what? No card!

Now, I am sure that Disney gets a lot of birthday requests. However, they should treat people equally and deliver on promises.

We've been given bday cakes for myself and my son at the Grand and AKL - we were staying concierge at the time though, so this may have had something to do with it..

We stayed at Port Orleans during my step son's B-Day. At check in I mentioned it was his 12th B-Day and his first visit to Disney. The CM gave him a chocolate Mickey on a stick. We did not expect or receive anything special in our room, but when we tried to get the birthday boy to the campfire singing thing at another resort and were running late, the manager actually got a driver in a Disney Van to drive us over to the resort so we wouldn't miss the event.

I think when they can, they will do just about anything they can. I also feel like if you are staying concierge, you may get more special things like cakes etc...

I am going to be traveling to Disney in September with two other families and we have 5 children that all have birthdays within one week of one another. I will definately make my own plans. If you expect Disney to make your day special and nothing happens, you are setting yourself up for a lot of unnecessary dissapointment.

If you get a special treat, great! But it's better not to have too many expectations.

Last October we were in Disney for my husband's 35th birthday. When I told them at check-in at the boardwalk, they just said I could order a cake at the boardwalk bakery and that I could probably get some free balloons from the bellman's desk. I ordered a cake, it was delicious by the way. I also planned through teh website "Gifts of a LIfetime.com" a scavenger hunt around the magic kingdom. It was really cool. The clues were really neat and lead us to several different attractions and he got little gifts along the way, leading up to his final gift, which was several t-shirts and a picture frame. They set up some really neat things through this web-site. Just thought some of you might like to check it out!! Of course, we also made him wear the pin that said it was his b-day and he had lots of fun with that. They sang Happy Birthday to him on the Jungle Cruise and things like that!
