birthday cake question

We are going to be in the parks on NYE which ALSO happens to be my daughter's 17th bday. We are going to be having lunch at the Brown Derby and I wanted to order a cake. I know I need to call the number but was just wondering how far in advance do they want you to call? A few weeks a month? Also you can get them delivered to a restaurant if you are not staying onsite correct?

And lastly I have done it at DL a few times but they don't seem to have much themeing anymore. I have seen some amazing ones come out of DW and just wondering if they still are good about decorating them.

I've gotten birthday cakes delivered to different restaurants at WDW. I ordered a week before but was also getting pretty standard cake designs. If you want something more elaborate maybe contact them a little earlier. The link above has all the info on the first page.

Different restaurants have different rules about cakes. Generally though you need 72 hour advanced notice for ordering. One thing I found out was that if you have a party of six or more where gratuity is automatically added to the bill, then 18% of the cost of the cake is included in your total as well. My wife's birthday cake at Choral Reef ended up being $100 for an eight inch cake.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the thread and of course HS is one that has the pretty boring ones. I am going to call Brown Derby and see if they can do something better but thanks so much. I have done cakes 3 times at DL but they weren't much better than something you could get at the grocery store and I have seen some fabulous ones so am hoping to get something nice.

I am sure the Brown Derby will work with you to get the cake you want. They are a signature restaurant and with all the bakery services at the Boardwalk and Yacht Club I'd be shocked if they couldn't get it for you.

You would think you could get the same level of awesome anywhere in Disney, but you really can't

Check out the cake thread, see what others have experienced. I do not recall ever seeing anything other than ordinary at hbd. For awesome you would need a different restaurant or resort sadly'

The awesome cakes. Are tied to the resorts that are. Main wedding venues. They have the equipment, supplies and skill set that other venues are lacking

It's just a bummer you can't get one and have it delivered or heck I would even pick it up.

I think you can pick up a custom cake at the Boardwalk Bakery with advanced notice (not too far of a walk/ boat ride from HS). I know it's not the same as delivered to the restaurant, but it's still cake and if you want one a little nicer that may be your best bet.
