We are taking our 4 boys to DLR this November as a joint birthday gift and would love to get them each one of the birthday buttons, even though we won't be there for any of their technical birthdays (closest bday will be a few days after we leave, then two more a couple weeks later, but one will be over a month prior to our trip). Is that still ok, since we are celebrating their birthdays, or is it not allowed, or even just frowned upon, when not on the actual day?

If allowed, where can we get the buttons? Thanks in advance! :)

Absolutely fine! No one will try and verify your actual birthdays. Since it's a joint birthday trip they all should have a birthday button! I like to get birthday buttons at City Hall or at the wait time board if I don't feel like waiting in a long line.

Agree with everyone else! If you're at Disneyland to celebrate, then it's absolutely acceptable to get birthday buttons! It would be sad not to! I wasn't there for my actual graduation (we took our trip the month before the actual graduation), but I still wore the button because it was a trip for celebration of my graduation.

Yup -- totally OK. I was at DL with my mom several years ago. It was about a week before her birthday but she got a button anyway.

Of course it's fine! :) I find the line much shorter in DCA (what's it called? Chamber of Commerce?) than at City Hall (a walk-in vs a lineup). When we went in April for my sisters bday, I compiled this list of birthday activities with the help of other DISers. Have fun! http://www.disboards.com/threads/birthdays-at-disneyland.3499118/

Thank you for posting that list!! I never even thought of doing a tour of attractions with birthday references, but that sounds like so much fun! And my youngest two (turning 1 and 3) will LOVE that Disney Junior show!

You can get a pin at almost any store; you don't need to wait at City Hall.

Very helpful information, thank you! The one and only time we went to City Hall, it took forever to get in and out. Popping into a store (or the wait time board, like PP mentioned) sounds like it will save some time! :)

On the day that we arrived, it was 11 days before my mom's birthday. She walked around with that button on all afternoon.

If you write their names on them place some clear tape over the marker. The names will still show and they won't end up covered in ink (ask me how I know this, lol)

When I was waiting to take my tour last month, I noticed that they were also giving out buttons at the Guest Services gazebo right by the left-hand entrance tunnel. No line at all.

me too. there was no line at the little kiosk in front of city hall and while I stood there and waited in line for city hall (for another reason of course ) I watched a lot of people just walk up and get their button.
