My ODD turns 15 5 days prior to our arrival at DLR. Is that too long after her birthday to request a birthday button? Thanks for any info!

Nobody will check or ask for proof, just let a CM know it's a birthday and they will give you one if they have one. Or go to city hall for one. They might ask for the age to write on it. But 5 days is definitely still within reason to be celebrating with a birthday button anyway, so don't worry about it.

My daughter's bday is 8/25. We will be there 8/10-13 and she is more than excited to wear a birthday button!! It's her birthday trip (but before school starts). Enjoy!!!

As others have said they don't check so you can get a birthday button at any point in the year. I picked up two one time; one for the kiddo that was having a birthday in two weeks and one for her sibling that wouldn't have a birthday for another 2 months. The CMs usually only ask the age and sometimes the name...so that is something to keep in mind. If you don't want to have your child's name on the button, just let the CM know otherwise they will ask and then write it on the button.

This year, I celebrated my birthday at DLR. We timed our trip around Star Wars Celebration, a couple weeks after my actual birthday, but it was FOR my birthday, so I decided to get a button. They didn't ask for any kind of proof at City Hall when I picked the button up. However, later that day a cast member randomly started chatting with me and I realized he was trying to slyly check if it was REALLY my birthday. That made me laugh, of course, because it wasn't.

I don't think that's something that a CM would ever do to a kid, though. I think it was mostly because I was an adult and alone at the time. He was friendly about it, but I do wonder what he'd have said if I came right out and said, "No, it's not my birthday."

My opinion - if you are going FOR your birthday get a button, regardless of when your birthday actually is

Ours is more the reverse, we would be going whether it was her birthday or not,but we get there 5 days after her birthday, so why not get her the button? Lol

The only rule is that you must be celebrating the birthday.

Of course you wouldn't be asking for it if you weren't celebrating it!

DS and I can't deal with it if it's not our birthdays. So we only get them if we go ON our birthdays. (We realized this with experience...for us it's just difficult to hear "happy birthday" when it's not) For us we seem to celebrate it for just the one day so we don't get buttons outside of THE day for ourselves anymore.

DH however would wear a button his whole life. He loves it and has no problem with it. Then again we've never gone ON his bday. But he wore the Anniversary button the whole week, even after I stopped wearing mine lol.

Know the personality of the wearer!

Also, if it's not the day and someone says happy birthday just say thank you. No one cares about the story of it no being the actual day. They see the button they joyfully say the words, you say thank you and smile and move along. Everyone's happy that way. If the wearer isn't happy then take off the button. Easy.
